- control98408, on 07/17/2009, -0/+12His reward? Weekly drug tests for the rest of his career!
- Coldmetal, on 07/17/2009, -1/+10Living in Philly and being a Phillies fan, it's extremely frustrating watching him step up to the plate and constantly strike out as much as he does, but god damn when he hits a HR it's usually in a clutch spot. Losing weight over the past two years really helped step his game up, if anyone is noticing he's already got 20 doubles this season and it's only half way through.
- Captj, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7But he'll pass them as. I'm proud to have a clean guy doing what he does so well on our team.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7His girlfriend, Kelly Kapoor, is thrilled.
- Dorkside, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6It's a shame he didn't get started in the Majors until later in life. He's already 29, so I don't think he'll have a shot at the all-time record. Still, it's a great accomplishment.
- j3ff86, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6Ryan started the fire!
- dscan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5he is the man.
- Parrappa, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Coldmetal certainly knows what he's talking about. Not only is he consistently becoming a better hitter, but his defense this season has been outstanding. Easily the best first basemen behind Pujols of course (the man is a machine!).
Utley and Howard, best 3,4 duo in the game - BxBoy, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3It's a HIT!
- hddigger, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3Howard will be 30 in November. Mel Ott, and Jimmie Foxx were each 25 when they hit #200.
- chesscom, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2This guy is awesome! Here's to hoping he beat's Bonds' record, and does it cleanly!
- JoeHague, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1I doubt he'll set any records- but he may very well wind up the most prolific slugger of this generation. Since he's entered the Major League he has hit more home runs than anyone/
- Captj, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Kazbaeden, he was named after him intentionally.
Ryan Howard had been a big name for the Scranton-WB Red Barons and then for the Reading Phillies. It was an added bonus that the character he was based on was Ricky Howard from the UK series. - Kazbaeden, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2Yes I know what you mean. He looooves swinging at the worst pitches. Basically if you throw out and away every time you're guaranteed a strike out. I don't know why other pitchers don't know this yet.
- slimasian, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Agreed, as a Phillies fan and Philadelphia resident, Ryan Howard has been the epitome of a feast or famine hitter in this town since he replaced Thome at the 3 spot. I agree that he has made huge strides in his defensive game this year due to better conditioning, but man, sometimes you just wish the guy would exercise the same kind of plate discipline as Utley. That being said, I still love the guy. :)
- nato0519, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2Last season i lead this club in 9th inning doubles in the month of august!
- Kazbaeden, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1I never understood why the show never addressed that he has the same name as a local baseball player. I mean, Jim likes the Phillies, you'd think he'd crack a joke. Maybe the writers in LA don't actually know...
- Red1000, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1He's awesome vs righties, but they really need to sit him against left handed pitchers. This year, he's hitting .187 with 3 HR and 52 strikeouts vs lefties.
- Captj, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1This is the 3rd HR record of Kiner's he's broken. And I think he has...2-3 others? Nothing big, but still, he's broken some. It just sucks that he got started in the majors so late.
- kingm1k3, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Ibanez is LF (7) and we can't forget Rollins who's great at shortstop and stepped up his hitting as well. ***** all the Phillies are great!
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Utley Howard Ibanez Best 3 4 5
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1I wish he could hit 50 a year for the next 12 years, take the record back from barroid
- LordRedSnake, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1You have to lose that mentality. I'll take the RBIs and HRs along with those strikeouts. Strikeouts are no worse than any other kind of out, and at least you can't turn a double play off a strikeout.
- JHB207, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1It was always burning since the worlds been turning?
- inactive, on 07/23/2009, -0/+0I meant batting order kingm1k3. Otherwise, right on.
- jeremyadam, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1GO RAYS!
- Parrappa, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0Your exactly right! I don't know what I was thinking.
- Red1000, on 07/18/2009, -1/+1I really doubt he'd have a shot at the major league record anyway. He is great at hitting home runs, but he is severely lacking in many aspects of the game, and it will get to him over time. Batting average, speed and defense go down considerably with age. Sure, he's a great player now, when he's hitting .250 with power, but as time passes, chances are, he'll fall into the .220-.230 range and his legs and his glove will be major liabilities. Then you're just another Dave Kingman or Rob Deer.
Long story short, he is a prime candidate to be a rapid-decline power hitter. - ChanM, on 07/19/2009, -1/+0This just in, Howard fastest MLB player to reach 100 SO by mid-season.
- mparker21311, on 07/17/2009, -8/+1Steroids.
