- chezidom, on 06/13/2009, -1/+64That's the Mets' previous season in one game.
- Jaq524, on 06/13/2009, -4/+39... and they celebrated after as though A-Rod won the game.
- edstate, on 06/13/2009, -1/+35This is NOT a good town to make a mistake like that in... the guy's toast.
Regardless, the irony here is it was all about fundamentals. The Yankees won because one of their guys (making a zillion dollars a year) did the RIGHT THING and ran his heart out on a "routine" fly ball. The Mets lost because one of their guys (also making a zillion dollars a year) didn't use two FUKING HANDS to catch a ball. - Xplorer, on 06/13/2009, -2/+34Booo.... Buried for mid-stream ads....
- dekuscrub, on 06/13/2009, -0/+26I would not want to be that guy walking back into the locker room after that....
- TruEKuma, on 06/13/2009, -0/+19K-Rod was sadface
- BrandonJM, on 06/13/2009, -4/+20@Jaq, that bugged me too. It was total BS to treat A-Roid like the hero when Castillo was clearly the hero here.
- Ne007, on 06/13/2009, -3/+18nice commercial planted in video.......
- lostformat1125, on 06/13/2009, -0/+14yeah what in the ***** was that about?
- hollywoodphony, on 06/13/2009, -3/+16An ad in the middle of the video? Great. Can't wait til that catches on.
- bgolds99, on 06/13/2009, -1/+13I absolutely hate being a huge mets fan...
- chezidom, on 06/13/2009, -0/+11Castillo was the hero for the wrong team.
- LeeDigg, on 06/13/2009, -0/+11The "hero" of this play, if there is one, was Mark Teixeira who didn't take the play off when it looked like the game was over and scored the winning run from first base.
- JoeRockEHF, on 06/13/2009, -0/+10Two hands! Two hands!
- TortillaChip, on 06/13/2009, -1/+10A-Roid? How dare you degrade the man that knocked up Palin's daughter
- endustry, on 06/13/2009, -0/+9Previous TWO seasons in one game.
- caleone, on 06/13/2009, -0/+8It was, but most pro ball players don't use two hands most of the time.
- i4ybrid, on 06/13/2009, -0/+8What else is new? It's so hard being a fan of the Mets, they always choke.
- dupems, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7Yeah that's a little ridiculous. They just put it in halfway through the video.
- bblande, on 06/13/2009, -4/+11Somewhere, Bill Buckner is LOL'ing.
- pablocblanco, on 06/13/2009, -1/+8What are you talking about? Monopoly was awesome!
- jordanlgta, on 06/13/2009, -1/+8"The ***** is that about" is that it worked. As much as I hate it, you watched the entire clip with the ad. It's effective. Annoying? Yes. But effective.
As for the ad trying to convince me in 15 seconds to buy a $35000 car...that didn't work. - darknecross, on 06/13/2009, -1/+7It's his complete lack of Little League fundamentals that make the dropped fly so failworthy.
- ColdChillin, on 06/13/2009, -3/+8The Mets? Choked? Why am I not surprised.
- caleone, on 06/13/2009, -1/+6Every ball player drops a routine fly ball at least once. The timing and circumstance was just one in a million.
- roebeet, on 06/13/2009, -0/+5A-Rod knew it was a pop-up, as soon as he hit the ball. He was pissed because he thought the game was now over and the Mets has won it. And 99 times out of 100, he would have been right.
- soccerman90, on 06/13/2009, -2/+7the funnies part is if he had thrown it home it would have gone into extra inning but instead he threw it to second for no reason lol
- EtherealSOC, on 06/13/2009, -0/+5The act of throwing his bat is meaningless. He was frustrated because his goal is to hit a homerun to win the game, or at least put the ball in a place where a defender can't reach it so the tying run can score.
By hitting it where a defender could make the 'out' and end the game, he failed. As it turned out, the defender didn't catch the ball and the tying and winning run scored.
Alex Rodriquez, the batter, thought he had lost the game so he threw the bat in disgust, that's all. - blumer, on 06/13/2009, -0/+4This is why your Little League coach drilled into your head to ALWAYS RUN IT OUT.
And to use two hands. - bigfkncee, on 06/13/2009, -0/+4regular season game flub vs. world series flub? i dont think so.
- soil, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3That's terrible. This past week, while playing softball, I caught the ball in the wrong part of the glove, causing great pain in my palm joints and thought to myself, I wonder if any major leaguers ever do this? Looks like they do, the ball doesn't pop out of the pocket like that, but it does pop off the hand like that.
Stinks to be that guy. Hope he's got a supportive team and coach and family. - tomjm5000, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3AHHH MY POOR METS
- blumer, on 06/13/2009, -1/+4Castillo? The heroes were Jeter and Teixeira who ran it out, not 'cause they thought it would happen, but because that's just good baseball.
- v3rtex7740, on 06/13/2009, -1/+4BRORAPE
- sobe4u8k, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3And that the exact reason the Twins got rid of him, Castillo is not a good baseball player at all, his bat sucks and obviously his glove sucks too. Sorry Mets fans, you deserved that game.
- Red1000, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3It's remarkable how much Castillo has slipped defensively. He's won 3 gold gloves at 2nd base, but the past 2+ years, he's been one of the worst fielding 2nd baseman. His statistical dropoff has been astounding.
- netant, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2@zvoidx
1) I do agree, it was not the easiest, cheesiest, stand and watch-the-ball-fall-into-your-mitt pop fly.
2) That ball fully landed in the glove, and then Castillo's retarded reaction time and awful ball handling technique allowed it to POP OUT of his glove. Its inexcusable for a PROFESSIONAL baseball player to not catch that pop fly. - 2of8, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2Could somebody please explain the significance of this video, keeping in mind that I know little about this game. Why did the batter "slam his bat and throw it"?
- TekeeTakShak, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2Not sure what's worse...this, or Milton Bradley's *****-up.
- CraigHwk, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2Wow, Artie is gonna let Gary have it on Monday.
- v3rtex7740, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2Yes, I know, Lexus has a convertible. Only yuppies that I want to shoot will buy them.
- brsox2445, on 06/13/2009, -1/+3It is a shame but still absolutely hilarious.
- Sliver85, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2Right, it would have been quicker to get up and throw it home than just throw it to 2nd as a cut off.
- Serume, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2atleast the guys on the mets know how many outs there are...im a huge cubs fan and apparently counting to three isn't milton bradleys strong point.
- teddyrux, on 06/13/2009, -1/+3Try losing some weight, it won't be as bad.
- netant, on 06/13/2009, -1/+3Isn't that a common occurrence in a Met lockerroom or Met fan gatherings? Is it worthy of mention?
- TimidTurtleTodd, on 06/13/2009, -1/+3TTTTTHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIIIIIIIINNNNNNN!!!!!!
- Ajajadude, on 06/13/2009, -2/+4When you're making millions, you shouldn't be making mistakes that even 12 year olds wouldn't make.
- Zasz, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2Coincidentally, on the same night, a Nat's player dropped Gabe Kapler's fly ball in the bottom of the 8th. Very next pitch Kapler hit it over the wall for the game winning home run for the Rays.
- teamgwho, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2so it wasnt just me then. that was majorly annoying,
