- GramarNazi, on 12/03/2008, -0/+31End of article:
"The victim's brother, Henry Blanco, played catcher for the Chicago Cubs last year. He is currently a free agent."
Kind of a weird way to end an article of that nature... - MistrBrownstone, on 12/03/2008, -3/+25Dark Helmet: Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Star.
Lone Starr: What?
Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lone Starr: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become. - centran, on 12/03/2008, -1/+17The body of Henry Blanco's sibling was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
- uevan, on 12/03/2008, -3/+18Bullet-riddled body? There's got to be a better way to say that
- slvrbullet87, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13I want May him RIP to be etched on my tombstone, people would wonder why there is a typo and think that i must have been an ***** and nobody wanted to fix it, and they would be right
- Halsfield, on 12/03/2008, -0/+10my exact thoughts when i read this. if they reported the sad deaths of every family member that could be tied to a celebrity we would have nothing else being reported. this is sad, but is it really news ?
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+8How about "the swiss cheese-like body"?
- hokie47, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6From the US State Department "A common technique is to choke the victim into unconsciousness and then rob them of all they are carrying." What a ***** hole
- natenovs, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5I'm pretty sure he's not American.
- faceless323, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5ahaha @ got GOT
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+613,000 homicides? Geez, I'm cancelling my vacation.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+6Welcome to modern media. They like the shock factor in sad cases like this.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4No way, the crime is considerably more unnerving, trust me.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5I agree. "Bullet riddled" is a little misleading.
It suggests that the bullet holes in his body form a puzzling visual to the on-looker.
When I see a mother ***** all shot up, I know what the hell I'm looking at. - mrcaulfield, on 12/03/2008, -2/+6Shot to death, body full of hot lead, body of guy who got GOT,
Meh, I don't see how one can word such a terrible way to die in a politically correct manner
that is both inoffensive yet descriptive of the way in which the victim died. - imperfectepoch, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4It's Plaxico, and he isn't capable of shooting anyone but himself, remember?
- pyrexia, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Great quote! That is the first thing I thought of when I read the title!
- TruEKuma, on 12/03/2008, -1/+4Because its Henry Blanco's brother, its big news.....
Don't get me wrong im not saying his death isn't tragic, but I mean come on with that headline. - inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3<3 Venezuela, where when you get robbed you are thrilled that they didn't just shoot you and loot your corpse.
- Barackalypse, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3I see Comrade Chavez is well on his way to his Socialist Utopia.
- mikeg79, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3He was a target because his brother is rich and famous. Apparently they were negotiating a ransom with Henry.
- Halsfield, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2sorry, you got beat to it.
- dizzy113, on 12/03/2008, -1/+3Sad news, but "Over 13,000 homicides were reported last year, making Venezuela one of Latin America's most dangerous countries." isn't the reason to fear Venezuela, I think their "dictator" is the scary part.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2hank whites brother?
- daimposter, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2i got beat to it! i was going to quote dark helmet too i soon as i read the title. then after being beat to that quote, i was going to say that "this is the first thing i thought when i read the title. And i got beat there too.
there can't be a person in the world outside of Venezuela having worse luck than me.
/s - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1I think the general public got wise to the fact that the anti war movement was full of nut cases like Cindy and the Code Pink crowd. Maybe she joined up with PETA or Scientology.
- cyrusuncc, on 12/03/2008, -2/+3Henry's second cousin's babysitter's great aunt's brother's second cousin twice removed
- Fleagleman, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Only if the entire world was ruled by English-speaking countries...which it's not.
- nofx1510, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1I think I was the only one who read this and first though about blanco not being on the cubs anymore.
I'm a horrible person. - Gunsdead, on 12/03/2008, -2/+3I was thinking the same thing
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1who's brother?
- CaviMike, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Looks like Henry Blanco needs a job.
- grendel, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Was it necessary to mention that the dead guy was the ex cub catchers brother?
- dizzy113, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Yeah, you're right, but I was just trying to hint that if you fix the root of the problem, the other problems decline.
- Barackalypse, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1What's she doing these days? War protests seem to be out of style.
- wrathoftheafe, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Sad story. Too bad he didnt have the same talent that allows his brother to maintain a .227 career average or he might have been able to leave Venezuala too.
- jotux, on 12/03/2008, -5/+6He was my father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Maybe he can call up his gal pal Cindy Sheehan, bitch never did move down there even though she claimed she wanted to. I guess she enjoys the freedom and safety she has here in the US. *****.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1That's what she said.
- d2002, on 12/03/2008, -3/+4May him RIP. =(
- Halsfield, on 12/03/2008, -2/+2if people followed the news a little less it might make the news media follow stories that actually matter to the world at large instead of just a string of celebrity stories. If the majority of news stories were about things that mattered it might improve the view of the media and make more people watch instead of watching shows like the Daily Show to get their news. Its sad that this kid died because his relative was a celebrity, but this isnt news. My grandmother died horribly from cancer, it was terribly sad, but it isnt news.
The thing in mumbai , that was news, that affected the world at large. It had far flung implications for worldwide tourism, anti-terrorism practices, terrorist cell identification and India's terrorist problem in general.
Pirates attacking merchant ships , tankers, etc near the port of aden is news. That is a serious threat to the world's oil supply, tourism, and is a clear sign of the sad economic state of that area that has been ignored (hopefully not anymore) and the only way some of these people survive is by piracy. That is news.
This guy dying was terribly sad but its a simple case of ransom and should have been kept a personal matter. This guy was not a celebrity, and that is why people are making references to dark helmet's quote.
People that say get a clue usually need to get one themselves. Saying that just makes you look like an arrogant jackass that acts like he has all the answers. - Fleagleman, on 12/03/2008, -3/+3We really don't. Just another example of the Digg system pushing stories that really don't deserve it to the front page.
What some people call the "Mr. Baby Man'" algorhythm. - grs328, on 12/03/2008, -2/+2That is exactly why it is mentioned that he was Henry Blanco's brother. And if people followed the news a little more, they would know that kdinapping relatives of athletes or the wealthy for ransom is endemic in Latin America. All these "brother's mother's second cousin twice removed" comments are ridiculous. Get a clue, people.
- bobrobon, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0RIP. Thoughts and prayers are with Henry Blanco's family.
And i hope Henry can find a job...Soto pretty much dominates his place on the Cubs. - indythought024, on 12/03/2008, -0/+0that headline made me think of this kid I know who starts out every story with " my cousin's friend's aunt's housekeeper knew this guy.."
- fadetoone, on 12/03/2008, -1/+1Pretty soon, dugg news stories will all be based on the Kevin Bacon game.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -3/+2Tragic. But I gotta wonder why an American would travel to one of the most dangerous cities in the entire world?
Life is all about choices. Make bad ones and you're on your own as far as I'm concerned. - nofx1510, on 12/03/2008, -3/+1Only reason I clicked on it was the word Cubs.
- goodbick, on 12/03/2008, -5/+2Is this really any more newsworthy because the guy killed was the BROTHER of an EX cubs catcher? Give me a break. What's next?
