- RealmDown, on 01/13/2009, -0/+92.5 million is a lot of money, and if I ever get that much I will retire; but, how much money do you need after so many, many years of multi-million dollar contracts?
Smoltzie should have stayed in Atlanta. - mevans05, on 01/13/2009, -0/+9i love when clueless people post... must be one of those newbie rays fans.
beckett is not injury prone: games started in past 4 years? 29, 33, 30, 27 (most pitchers are on DL at least once in a season these days)
dice-k? a 33-15 record proves ERA isn't as meaningful when you have a stout offense behind you
they got penny on the cheap and he's got upside
wake is an innings eater, cheap, and will be able to pitch for many more years because he's a knuckleballer
smoltz is another one like penny - cheap with lots of upside
AND you failed to mention the true ace of the staff last year - LESTER!
not to mention buckholtz and masterson as backup plans!
seems like a pretty good pitching staff if you ask me. - JamesMH74, on 01/13/2009, -1/+8As an Atlanta Braves fan for the last 15 years, I will really miss him pitching for us. But the Red Sox are a respectable team and I'm glad they will use him in such an important role. He really is one of the best pitchers in recent memory.
- BigPapi, on 01/13/2009, -0/+63.21 ERA Lester - funny how you left that one off the list
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/13/2009, -0/+6He's prob gonna be the best pitching coach in the entire organization. The youngsters on the BoSox will learn a ton from him.
- methdwman3, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Heh.. The Sox have more young pitching talent then they know what to do with - read up before posting such stupidity.
- brsteve88, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5You wanna talk injury prone? How about a guy that missed the second half of the season because he got injured running the bases? (Wang) Also, Sabathia is good but overpriced and has not delivered in the postseason (especially against the Sox). Oh, Hughes sucked last season.
And Joba can't be considered a workhorse since even in his rookie season he missed a month with tendonitis.
But no, you're not a moron. - FMSfreebies, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Sabathia - Going to be 29 this year. "young" ace? no.
Wang - Going to be 29 this year as well. "young" ace? no.
Joba - 23 year old. good pitcher but c'mon... "young lights out ace"? lol
Burnett - 31 year old.
Hughes... Win-Losses in 2008: 5-7. potential? not so much.
redsox have the yanks beat, duh. - kirb59y, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5Sabathia - overweight
Wang - overrated
Joba - overworked
Burnett - overpaid
Hughes - overhyped - meruru, on 01/13/2009, -0/+5I have always liked Smoltz but I will forever hold a grudge against him if he pushes Wakefield out of the rotation. Long live the knuckleball!
- bunki8, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4Sounds like a real team player....
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4I'm not even a Braves fan, but it's going to be weird seeing him in a Sox uniform.
- DickyT83, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4As a statistician, I must concur: he is not a statistician.
- mevans05, on 01/13/2009, -0/+4your stats aren't even right! you're picking their worst season. well, one thing's for sure - you're not a statistician.
- Bravesguy18, on 01/13/2009, -0/+3John Smoltz is dead to me!
- getisboy, on 01/14/2009, -0/+3Atlanta at Boston: July 19 - 21
- AAK15, on 01/13/2009, -0/+3ya bosox!
- brsteve88, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2A five million dollar contract is not throwing money away for a veteran like Smoltz. The Rays pitchers just all happen to be young enough that most of them aren't eligible for arbitration.
- Xihix, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2COME BACK TO ATLANTA... I miss you...
- camaroz06, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2I dunno know about the sawx off season acquisitions so far...
l mean who needs a good catcher? - Perigren, on 01/13/2009, -1/+3Smoltz is the best big game pitcher to ever play the game. As a braves fan I hope he gets one more playoff start, because no other pitcher is more fun to watch in the playoffs than John Smoltz
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2He will have fun with it. Plus I doubt he will finish the season.
- devfeed, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2Awesome. Almost all people think so http://homemasters.info
- kizio, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2Hm... This makes me smile. http://petsjournal.info
- RealmDown, on 01/14/2009, -1/+2On average, you're both wrong. :-D
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -5/+65.01 ERA injury prone Beckett
4.40 ERA Matsuzaka
6.27 ERA injured Penny
Old Wakefield
Injured and old Smoltz
That's some rotation there, Blosox. - inactive, on 01/13/2009, -2/+2I'll believe it when I see it. Of course he says he is healthy so that he can get the contract. Lets see what happens after a month or two. He will be right back on the injury list. I'm glad the Red Sox are throwing money away though. Go Rays.
- fiji5555, on 01/13/2009, -4/+2Nobody cares........baseball = boring zzZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzZZzzzzzzzzzz
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -6/+3Haha let's compare to a real rotation:
Sabathia - young ace, workhorse
Wang - young ace, workhorse
Joba - young lights out ace
Burnett - experienced, middle aged #2 type guy
Hughes - young potential ace
Good lucky with your creaky ship of soft tossers
