- MrStabby, on 04/23/2008, -1/+13It's just too freakin' bad they couldn't have squeezed out his 4th win of the season to go alongside it...
...either way, John is now (as if he wasn't before) in some truly elite company...
It will be one fine day when the HoF unveils their "Glavine, Maddux & Smoltz Wing" - iseeumonkey, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7i miss when the braves had that pitching team...
- NoCt1, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3It was a decent game also.. Go braves.. At least we have one good sports team.. hawks suck.. falcons are a joke.. the thrashers always start great then end horrible..
- slvrbullet87, on 04/23/2008, -2/+1Who the hell are the thrashers?
- iseeumonkey, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3the atlanta NHL team. their first season was 1999-2000.
- RealmDown, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1I want the Flames back.
- iseeumonkey, on 04/23/2008, -3/+1the hawks did have a decent year this year. i mean, al horford was nominated for Rookie of the year, and they got the 8th seed in the playoffs. i guess my family being season ticket holders since the late 1970's has it's ups and downs... but we can bend customer relation's arm any way we want. i have gotten so much free stuff. including a lithograph signed by dominique wilkins...

- RoyaleCheese, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4This is also after like 30 elbow operations. Congrats bud!
- NeoCortex, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1His arm is probably bionic at this point.
- mlrigsby, on 04/23/2008, -0/+27It would be great if Smoltz, Maddux, and Glavine all go into the Hall of Fame in the same class.
- Soonago, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2You just got my hopes up. Now I'm going to be really sad when that doesn't happen.
- cloudcity, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7No Steve Avery!?!?!
I kid... - deadseksy, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3It's hard to fathom any one team having that many Hall of Famers in their starting rotation at one time.
- badqat, on 04/23/2008, -3/+4I'm really wondering if the Braves will fall into the same old trap as always...pitchers with excellent ERAs and performances, and a team that can't back them up with any offense.
But nice to see Smoltz still has it.- crweaks23, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5I don't think so at all. Escobar is looking great, chipper is hotter than ever (400+ avg with 6+ homers.. too lazy to look up exact #'s), tex is solid, and mcann and francour are playing great ball. I'm not worried about the offense, i'm worried about the bullpen down the stretch with all the pitchers getting injured.
- iseeumonkey, on 04/23/2008, -3/+2great job john, now i just need to pray that the rest of the braves pitching will pick up
- kenij, on 04/23/2008, -0/+11John Smoltz is awesome. Not only is he a great starter, but he was also a great closer. That's pretty tough for a pitcher to do.
- mlrigsby, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9Only pitcher in history with 200 wins and 150 saves. That's just an amazing stat, when you really think about it.
- blankhorizons, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Look at some of the other pitchers that have tried to transition to the back of the bullpen and have failed. It makes you realize how impressing that really is (Curt Schilling in 2005 comes to mind). Congrats Smoltz
- dcmcderm, on 04/23/2008, -14/+3You know it's a big deal when a baseball story lands on the front page of digg.
- Mattman9876, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5great pitcher and a class act
- GorgarFanClub, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4Smoltz is the only pitcher in baseball history to win 200 games and collect over 150 saves.
- mashley75, on 07/17/2008, -2/+3I was at Turner Field for his 150th save, Man, its was awesome. 47,000 people chanting Smoltz, Smoltz, Smoltz!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was spitting pretzel and beer everywhere when he walked outof the bullpen in the 9th. 5 pitches three outs. This guy is whats right with baseball nowadays.
- gojohn99, on 04/23/2008, -2/+3Way to go Smoltz!
- notcarsondaly, on 04/23/2008, -18/+2..and then the Braves lost 6-0 to the Nationals.
- crweaks23, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8Every team loses games, this comment is worthless.
- Bamshackle, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8Great player, better person. If all of the Braves were like John Smoltz than they would be able to return to greatness.
- reuscel, on 04/23/2008, -0/+13I grew up a casual Phillies fan, and hated the Braves for their never-ending dominance of the NL East (although the Phillies' decades of ineptitude probably helped too), but I always respected Smoltz, and I still do. Congratulations to a stand-up guy.
- RealmDown, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Kudos from Philly's fan. Wow.
- bovilexia, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5and here's to 3000 more!
- PrestonM, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2The AJC today has a good photo gallery of Smoltz's highlights.
http://projects.ajc.com/gallery/view/sports/braves ... - mariowario, on 04/23/2008, -17/+4Digg me up if you have him on your Yahoo Fantasy lineup like I do :)
- bobburn, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6Man I love the Braves..it's good to see Smoltz, a real great guy, still chugging along and picking up win after win, strikeout after strikeout.
- naterpoke, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4Ive been a braves fan since forever, no andruw, no care.
- crweaks23, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2agreed. I wish he left earlier... sorry if that's harsh, but you could tell his swing was ***** mid season last year, and he still doesn't have it back.
- NorrisTwithman, on 04/23/2008, -1/+0My entire life flashed before my eyes when I was watching some Dodger highlights and Andruw Jones made a catch. One of those "whaaaa?" moments.
- doublebummer, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2LOVED the Dodgers series. I was great to see Andruw trying to pull every pitch and then flailing away at an outside pitch in someone elses uniform.
- iNoles, on 04/23/2008, -3/+1---- Go Braves ---> It nice to see Smoltz still has it. I do love the Noles too.
- morningchai, on 04/23/2008, -7/+1So?
- zapperdude60, on 04/23/2008, -7/+2really? i thought he had OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!!
- Soonago, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1Not gonna lie. I teared up.
- ams876, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Damn, 3000 strikeouts is a great achievement. Way to go Smoltz!
- DBSABZB, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4I was at the game last night. It was a very nice moment, although it would've been a little more poignant if the stadium had been over 1/2 full. Atlanta = worst pro sports city.
- zioxide, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Obviously you've never seen how many people attend a Marlins game.
- KevinRWright, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Leave my poor fish alone!
It's a shame man, 2 world series in a span of 10 years and we can't get a new stadium. As much as people bust on them though, any baseball fan has to admire the Marlins farm system. It's always amazing.- fancyj, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2The Marlins are a self contained farm system.
- blankhorizons, on 04/24/2008, -1/+1If you have a fire sale every 3 years you'd better have a good farm system.
- KevinRWright, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Leave my poor fish alone!
- fancyj, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2or tampa bay, kansas city, montreal/washington. atlanta has far from the worst attendance.
- leazarus, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3Or, more correctly, Atlanta = city with the most people in it not from that city.
Atlanta is full of Cubs fans, Mariners fans, etc. The Braves' fan base, however, spans the ENTIRE southeast US.
I, for one, drove 4 hours from Savannah to see them in Atlanta, but could only do that about once a year. Now I'm happy I get to watch them on tv in Richmond (and catch their AAA club before they skip town).- fancyj, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Almost every city is full of Cubs fans. It's really getting out of hand.
- zioxide, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Obviously you've never seen how many people attend a Marlins game.
- FecalHurler, on 04/23/2008, -1/+9Coming from a Met fan, let me say that Smoltz is one of the most underrated pitchers I've ever seen. The man is a machine and I personally sweat whenever I see him on the mound. He's also a true professional, and no one deserves it more than he does.
- KevinRWright, on 04/23/2008, -2/+1edited and deleted. Sorry, bury this.
- djsku82, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1As much as I hate the Mets, I as a Brave's fan appreciate the comment. much respect.
- veriix, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3That's nothing, I had the same stats when I played ball in high school...although I wasn't a pitcher.
- mytibt, on 04/23/2008, -0/+0Congrats Smoltzie - with the great ERA he's got this year, I can't believe he has one loss to his record though!
- suzywang3000, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2he's pitching as well as he ever has. This Jurrjens kid though... he's gonna win a Cy Young one day.
- cosby, on 04/23/2008, -0/+0Smoltz is one of my heroes. I've been watching him since I was a kid. I love going to the games he pitches because he is such a fierce competitor. I can't wait until the day he is inducted into the Hall of Fame.
I just hope we can give it one more go around and win a championship for him and Bobby. - FlyingPhotog, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Nolan Ryan FTW!
- humperdeath, on 04/23/2008, -6/+1How does he do it? half a word, 'roids!
(hey, Smoltz is a great player, but then, so was Clemmens)- RealmDown, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3*TROLL CLEANUP NEEDED ON AISLE 3 ROW 17 SEAT 12*
- Chemosabe, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1This is the guy who turned up to training one day with a welt on his chest and admitted he'd tried to iron a shirt while wearing it, right?
- JQP123, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2"That is the most false thing I've ever heard," Smoltz says. "That got created six years ago, and it never left me. Ironing my shirt while it was on-that's the most absurd thing. It was made up. But it got on Arsenio Hall, CNN, everywhere. And what do you do to stop it?"

210 wins, 154 saves, 3000 K's...first ballot. - djsku82, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2John Smoltz is a respectable person on and off the field, at true class act. Congrats John, well deserved. (Can you tell I'm a Braves fan.) lol.
- FloorModel, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Congrats to Smoltz. He's a great pitcher and will fit in nicely in Cooperstown someday.
- KillaCal1, on 04/23/2008, -3/+0and to think with those 3 they never won a world series...............shame but congrats anyway
- logan074, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Check the scores of the 1995 world series. I think you have missed something.
- KillaCal1, on 04/24/2008, -1/+0oooooo yea ur rite then again i wus five at the time so thanx for my dumbassness
- baseballcoach, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Congratulations to a great pitcher and can't miss HOFer.
