- kahoona1, on 04/23/2009, -0/+20What is with all the cats at baseball stadiums?
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+16Oh, the bird exploded on impact. It was a one in a million shot, and it actually shook up Randy Johnson, who usually doesn't seem to give a crap about anything.
- acmaurer, on 04/23/2009, -0/+16Wait - so did the bird just ...poof!... or are those the feathers it left after flying away???
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+15#8 is pretty funny. It's like the cat is raising its arms in celebration.
- DillonHinson, on 04/23/2009, -0/+12What's up with #11? Honestly, is that moment so funny or special that they had to put it on there with that kind of quality?
- DillonHinson, on 04/23/2009, -0/+10Haha, I don't think it's celebrating. I thinks it's surrendering!

- fuzzynyanko, on 04/23/2009, -0/+9I'm surprised that not many people are freaking out about #2
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+9I was hoping to see #12 in there. I still remember watching that clip the day it happened. It's the only time I ever saw Randy Johnson look remotely sympathetic.
- matthewf01, on 04/23/2009, -0/+9Why is that guy holding the cat up by its tail?
- anexanhume, on 04/23/2009, -0/+8I am not a crook!
- philliesphan026, on 04/23/2009, -1/+9Cat #8 looks ***** pissed
- bruleboy, on 04/23/2009, -1/+9the "Poof" is may favorite. i can watch that video like 890348 times and still enjoy it.
- vptel, on 04/23/2009, -0/+7look at pic #11.
it's Bigfoot!
finally we have a picture of him, and at a baseball field the whole time. who would have guessed - bwonder, on 04/23/2009, -0/+7It's got the same colors as the White Sox, too.
- alpha19, on 04/23/2009, -2/+9Holding a cat by it's tail? What a ***** *****.
- ScienceMatters, on 04/23/2009, -1/+7cats are funny
- Snoogs, on 04/23/2009, -3/+8Because the cat was clawing and biting the ***** out of him... I wouldn't have been so kind to the cat that was shredding my skin.
- tnvwboy, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4#5 is funny because of the guy in the stands looking at the cat. I know he's just thinking, "awww a kitty!" but he oddly has the same look in his eyes that my cats get when they see a bird.
- freshgrease, on 04/23/2009, -1/+5So baseball players hate pussies?
- lukemit, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4Dugg for the world's best pitch ever - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF85R1em7Zs
- sten0257, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3What about all the insects that plagued Joba Chamberlain in game 2 of the 2007 playoffs in Cleveland?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB-Jyy7Qaa0 (best I could find) - AmazingA, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3You guys see the hawk last night? That was pretty unusual.
- zaffir, on 04/23/2009, -1/+4Title should have been: "14 Most Exciting Moments In Baseball."
- ivan423, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2Number 9 is the best. They told the cat "Freeze scumbag or I will shoot."
- acmaurer, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2I hear they're kept to keep mice away from the vending machines.
- quinnquinn12, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2wow #2 looks like the cat is not enjoying it and they are just punishing the poor thing :-(
- BeefEnchilada, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2THATS OVER 9000!
- stubear, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2It's in there, #12. I was at Fenway Park watching the end of that game on the jumbotron; the Red Sox game had not yet started and the Yankees were losing :). Seeing those midge so large on the screen was quite disturbing.
- retral, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2I *knew* the POOF was going to be a part of this.
- stubear, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3That's why you grab them by the scruff of their neck. Cats don't have shoulders and this keeps them from being able to reach around with either their claws or teeth and get you. Holding the cat by the tail is cruel and hurts the cat.
- stubear, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2No, those were the Yankees fans/players.
- thesonofdarwin, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3Not just two, although two is the obvious no-brainer. Scruffing an adult cat without supporting its lower body can cause major spinal damage even if the cat remains calm, but especially if it flails. Furthermore, more than a few medical conditions gives cats brittle skin. It's happened quite a few times where veterinarians, people trained to handle cats, have ripped the back of the neck off a cat by simply scruffing WHILE supporting the rest of the body, which is why you'll find very few vets who will restrain cats by scruffing these days. It's simply an unsafe practice all around. Even certain rodents where it's approved by veterinarians to handle them by their tail it is explicitly stated that you grasp the base of the tail and not the distal end, no so much for the spinal damage as their spines are fairly flexible, but because there is a high risk of ripping the tail off. Scruffing a rabbit in the manner that cat was held is pretty much signing its death certificate. Rabbit spines are so fragile it's incredible.
There are approved ways to safely handle most common pets (or not-so-friendly wild or feral versions). I wish it was all more commonly known. - camaroz06, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2I'm in ur park stealin ur bases
- lukemit, on 04/23/2009, -0/+215 minutes? That bird's more famous that I'll ever be.
- smack1700, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2#9 is all sorts of show-boating
- Scrollfx, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2I bet all the fans went home thinking "The best part of that baseball game was a cat running around. I should save money on tickets and get a cat instead."
- JakeyG14, on 04/23/2009, -2/+3Easy muscles, I'm pretty sure the cat was scared and wasn't out to get the guy.
- giantshroom, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1dugg for pic of baseball smashing bird
- JakeyG14, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1I mind a squirrel running onto the Highbury pitch in an Arsenal vs Villareal UEFA CL game.
Juan Roman Riquelme looked like he'd just seen La Chupacabra. - BigTuna, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1At the old Windsor Hockey Arena, squirrels running around in the rafters above the ice was a common occurrence. I didn't see it, but apparently one fell to the ice during a game once. (Windsor, Canada. For those who may not know...)
- raza7370, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1wow !!!!!!!!...................
- joot2112, on 04/23/2009, -1/+2what kind of ***** picks up a cat by the tail?
- tiberone, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1But then they would be missing out on this gem
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAwcel1Eb0s - spritom, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Johnson's Wikipedia page says they called a "no pitch."
- 1sammy, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1I was at that spring training game. I just happened to see the bird sit on a wire, swoop down, then *poof*. The game just kind of stopped. I think everyone, including the umpires, was a bit stunned and initially had no idea how to call it. I don't remember the final call.
- Snoogs, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1So can dogs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-3EyMPzMoo - thesonofdarwin, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Most shelters scruff and use other non-veterinary approved measures to restrain animals still. I earned most of my experience for veterinary school through years as an employee at various shelters. I'm not implying that they are abusive, just that not everyone had received proper training. Those with a veterinarian on staff faired better, for obvious reasons.
As for the groundskeeper, I'm not saying he necessarily should. There is just an astonishingly large lack of information pervading society in regards to animals which is why, after I graduate, I plan to be an educator and advocate veterinarian rather than clinical. As a profession that shoulders a lot of the animal field, both appropriately and shoved at us inappropriately, it's our responsibility to work toward educating the public rather than just cleaning up the results of not doing so.
I can say that, without a doubt, the worst possible way to hold a wild (or even a friendly) cat is by the scruff alone. Not just for the health of the animal, but for the safety of the person holding the cat. For a wild cat it's almost a guaranteed way to get scratched or bit. Let me say, rabies shots are no fun at all. - sten0257, on 04/24/2009, -0/+1I don't know how I missed that - it's the only one I was looking for. Classic sports moment - Chamberlain collapses via bug attack.
- spritom, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Of all the pitchers, the bird had to fly into a pitch by The Big Unit.
