- Fixhotep, on 07/12/2009, -1/+19As a Jays fan since the 80s, it's upsetting to see my team go from annual contenders in the 80s and 90s, to a team that produces good ballplayers in the farm system, bring em up and ultimately trade them away right before their contract ends because they know they can't afford to sign em. Say hello to the Edmonton Oilers of baseball.
/Oh well. I'm shocked they were able to keep him this long.
//Wait, they're both Canadian teams.... a trend perhaps? - vsujohn2, on 07/11/2009, -12/+20No price is too high for the Yankees, after all they sold their souls to the devil and they still can't win a championship.
- MrMontag, on 07/12/2009, -2/+10The Yanks have fiscal responsibility? I thought they just bought whatever big names come up, toss them together and pray for another World Series.
(which they haven't won since 2000, it's been almost a decade guys come on really?) - itc518, on 07/12/2009, -4/+12They have won 26 though.
- BrTalip, on 07/12/2009, -2/+8Keep on dreaming Yankee fans. There's no way in hell we would trade Doc to you guys, let alone in the division. I'm pretty sure JP doesn't want to get murdered (literally).
- rockon4life45, on 07/12/2009, -3/+8As a Yankees fan I believe this to be true. To get Halladay, we'd have to give up good prospects, pick up his salary next year, and probably give up Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes. Even though Joba has been struggling as of late, I do not think we are ready to give up on him. Worse case scenario, him and Hughes switch spots or put Aceves (who is a great starter when in shape for it) in Joba's slot. But if Wang is gonna be out for the season again we are going to need somebody and Wang could be shopped around as 'damaged goods' that could pay off in the future.
- flipnaman, on 07/12/2009, -2/+7Ill believe it when I see it.
Same was said when Teixeira was on the market. - leazarus, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5I'm holding on to my Wang.
- Riggaberto, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4I agree with you for most articles, but salary and what players offer are related it turns out.
- startoss, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4I thought my Jays had a chance early in the season.... Aaron Hill, Adam Lind and Ricky Romero are doing so well... then... all their starters are on the DL?!
JP would have to resign if he trade away Halladay (especially to the Yanks). No #$%^ing way. - ThraxyWaxy, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Lets just be happy they won back-to-back. Look at how much money the Cubs spend and they haven't won in a hundred years. Also, look at the Marlins and how they put together a really good team every 4-5 years and make a World Series caliber run then sell off all their pieces. The Jays are just in the wrong division or they'd make the playoffs every couple years and threaten. I'm sure you've seen all their rookie pitchers come up and pitch well (except Mills), most notably Romero who's putting up all-star numbers so far and playing nothing like a rookie.
- smacksaw, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Washburn and Bedard to Toronto? That sounds pretty interesting. The Mariners have so much pitching that it would be good, especially since Washburn is up and down and Bedard wants to go back east. I really like trade. And honestly, considering some of the other things being kicked around, even a multi-team deal would work. Perhaps Washburn and Bedard to Cleveland, Lee to Toronto and then Halladay to Seattle.
- waltpsu, on 07/12/2009, -2/+5Halladay's going to the Phillies.
- RobNyack, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3The Yankees have made so many bad moves the last several years, especially in the pitching dept....Carl Pavano...need i say more??
They have made moves that they shouldnt have and didnt make moves when they should have (they could of had both Santana and Beltran).
Joba is way over-rated. if they can get him in a trade that will bring us Halladay....DO IT - schwab002, on 07/12/2009, -2/+5Not only 26 championships, but they're almost always a very competitive team and as recently as the late 90's were completely dominant. Their 2000 championship wasn't even 10 years ago. I guess you can consider that a dry spell for the yankees, but for most teams that's pretty good.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -2/+5*****. They have no problems ass raping their fans for minimal return.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2you mean the Blue jays might actually demand an EQUITABLE trade for a change? The Yankees aren't used to that. They are used to teams basically unloading free agents to be for mediocre minor leaguers just to get SOMETHING for a player they are going to lose in the off season anyway.
- j10jep2, on 07/12/2009, -2/+4if we give up hughes i will just stop watching baseball
- Riggaberto, on 07/12/2009, -3/+5Yankees paid Jason Giambi 23 milli last year. Lol. They are paying Chien-Ming Wang, period. Lol.
- boxxa, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2When you are selling season tickets at $1250 a game, you can afford to pay for big name players whether you win or not.
- FearlessFreep, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Expos followed the pattern..trend indeed
- swicken, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2wow, $1250 a game? what a waste of money.
- ChuckDees, on 07/12/2009, -4/+6Either the Red Sox or Rays will win the AL east anyways.
- Ajajadude, on 07/12/2009, -2/+3Not by going after a bunch of all-stars, they haven't.
- ThraxyWaxy, on 07/12/2009, -2/+2I think they'd like to hold on to Wang because if he gets his form back next season they could have 4 15+ win pitchers on their team (Sabathia, Burnett, Wang, Halladay).
I'd give them a 50% shot of winning the series this year if they get Halladay, and they'd have a decent shot next year, but after that there's no guarantee they sign Halladay to an extension, and at some point the loss of prospects will hurt.
That said, I am a huge Halladay fan, and I absolutely don't want him to play in pinstripes, nor do I think he would sink to that level, and he does have a no-trade so he won't just go anywhere. - schwab002, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1Yes the new stadium is overpriced, but not every seat is so expensive. There are 50$ tickets available. Compared to football prices, it's not bad at all.
- Riggaberto, on 07/12/2009, -2/+2It's not rape, they like it, that's why I hate Yankee fans too.
- scorched03, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1oh no. not hughes or joba. only for the best and most durable starter out there... price isn't too steep for one of the stud pitchers of this generation, people ought to be selling the farm for this guy cuz he's worth it. i'm surprised the yankees didn't try to package middle rung prospects and the "idea" of contract relief to the jays first.
- Blinker1315, on 07/11/2009, -4/+3Oy.
- dijkstra22, on 07/12/2009, -2/+0Price for Halliday too steep for Yankees*
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -3/+1No, it isn't. thisw article has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Yankees not wanting to increase their payroll. It has everything to do with the Yankees expecting to do what they ALWAYS do with mid-season trades which is to basically trade away minor leagues with little hope of making an inmpact in the majors for All Stars
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -4/+1But allow me to point out how this thread is a perfect example of Diggers NOT READING THE ***** ARTICLE before commenting. And simply being stupid too. I knew before reading that they are not talking about his salary, morons. They are talking about what the Blue Jays want in return.
- kaolad, on 07/12/2009, -7/+2Yankees paid Jason Giambi 23 milli last year. Lol. They are paying Chien-Ming Wang 55 So funny http://eliminate-debt-credit-card.blogspot.com
- YamsterYams, on 07/11/2009, -25/+10Halladay will be a Yank by July 31. All the way to the Series!
