- newman8r, on 06/27/2009, -2/+73Yeah, a fan fell from my 3rd story window once. Granted, it was of the oscillating variety but I'm just saying I can relate.
- Bkkgnar, on 06/27/2009, -1/+30Whatever the ***** is happening in that thumbnail is awesome.
- GarageMann, on 06/27/2009, -0/+20That is absolutely true. As a native of St. Louis, if we have 105 degree weather with no humidity, everybody would rather take that than 90 degrees, and 75% humidity. Everything you touch is sticky, even you for the whole day....
- jpcraig, on 06/27/2009, -0/+19Maude?
- Spamorama, on 06/27/2009, -0/+18He alived then?
- KMye, on 06/27/2009, -2/+18Honestly, who doesn't assume, despite no mention of it in this initial article, that this was alcohol related? Isn't that a good bet? Regardless, I just hope this man's misfortune, whatever form it took, doesn't lead to some obnoxious, view-blocking safety rail that 99.999% of people will never need...
- feezus, on 06/27/2009, -1/+17I grew up an hour from Busch stadium and I'm now living in Sacramento.
I would take rather take ten 110-degree Sacramento days in a row than one 95-degree day in St. Louis. The humidity in that region is absolutely oppressive. - live2die, on 06/27/2009, -1/+16FTA:
"Chris Hoffman of O’Fallon, Ill., was taken to a hospital for observation. Joe Walsh, director of stadium operations, said Hoffman was being treated for an injury to his left shoulder, a gash to his face and assorted bumps and bruises."
Did you even read the second paragraph? - inactive, on 06/27/2009, -3/+17Must have been hit by a sudden gust of Gravity. Damn, Gravity, you scary!
- GarageMann, on 06/27/2009, -1/+13I live in St. Louis and was at the game last night. They were singing the song and then you here the whole stadium,"Huuuu" (As in breathing in, I know, terribly sound effects.) Anyway they just put the man on the stretcher and he was fine, just next time make sure to drink a bottle of water instead of some beers in 95 degree weather.
- sonofabiscuit, on 06/27/2009, -0/+11No, he didn't died.
- gumballer, on 06/27/2009, -0/+10Was he saved by Enrico Pallazzo?
- Sethbacca, on 06/27/2009, -0/+9Thats right, we should have rails of adequate size on every stadium. And while we're at it, all sidewalks should have rails with gates that only open at crosswalks when the sign allows for crossing pedestrians. Also, all drivers should wear helmets and safety suits and only drive 25 miles an hour. Babies should stay in hospitals until they become adults as their parents may be a danger to their well being.
Lets put extra safety on EVERYTHING so that nobody can sue anybody, because that's the type of society you're proposing. - MtheoryX, on 06/27/2009, -0/+8You haven't been to that many games.
- pilzburybizkit, on 06/27/2009, -0/+8I'm not sure how baseball fans go about their pregame rituals but if this was a football game you could pretty much guarantee it was alcohol. Lots of it. Hours before kickoff.
- haydesigner, on 06/27/2009, -0/+8No died.
Not alived.
Just not not died. - myskepticsight, on 06/27/2009, -0/+7I actually almost passed out at Busch Stadium this year. I got free bleacher seats and our seats were the only damn seats in the whole stadium that had full sunlight. I had one beer early before I was too hot but otherwise thought I was drinking enough water and had eaten. Went out for a smoke, came back inside and bam tunnel vision, loss of hearing, weak. Then had to pay five dollars for a cold bottle of water so I would not fully black out, all the water I had with me was hot. Water there REALLY needs to be $1-2 and cold. I know places like that jack up prices hardcore but water is one thing that should not be marked up 500% over normal retail price. I didn't even see water fountains there really,
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -2/+9Alcohol is a hell of a drug
- terracottapai, on 06/27/2009, -1/+8Carlos Gomez (of the Twins) a few days ago bunted a ball pretty much straight down, and it bounced up and knocked the helmet off his head. I saw it at the time, it was pretty meh.
- skipvt, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6He didn't even get to see the game.
- Armageddon85, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6Ohhh really.... "Walsh said the fan fell on to an empty seat after grazing a nearby female fan."
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -3/+9Did he died? pay attention in school son
- RatatRatR, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6The headline is still true.
- whosmatt, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6he was suffering from a bad case of Anheusers
- CaviMike, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6Glycerine
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -6/+12Buried for the misleadingly sensational title.
The man only fell one story, and a woman broke his fall. He'll be fine. - crossmr, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5I absolutely agree.
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5I'm still waiting for the day a a drunken Red Sox fan falls off the Green Monster while trying to catch a ball.
- troub, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5You're romanticizing old Busch a bit. The "elbow room," steepness of the stairs, and sightlines were just as bad or worse (the sightlines especially were WAY worse) at old Busch. I loved the old stadium, but really, the new one is much more comfortable--the old one had a lot more seats that were in full sun ALL THE TIME as well.
- petscii, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5Jesus, can't women go anywhere without being hit on...
- wolfing, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4"St. Louis had its 10th straight day of temperatures in the 90s, which is not unusual this time of year. The Cardinals turned down a request by the city’s public safety director to reschedule weekend day games to evening hours to best avoid heat-related problems because it was too late to alter television and stadium workers’ schedules."
I can see a lawsuit coming from 10 miles away - petro62, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4I have never had an issue with space in the new Busch Stadium. I have sat everywhere but the bleachers and never had an issue with crowding unless the person next to me was rather large. And getting out during the game is no worse than any other stadium in my opinion.
- MtheoryX, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4We get the same thing here in Indianapolis. It's been 90+ all this week with vicious humidity levels.
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -4/+8But will it blend....no wait, where am I?
- rda1441, on 06/27/2009, -1/+5And....he...is...outta...here!
- petro62, on 06/27/2009, -1/+5Yeah I always love it when people don't take our 90-100 degree high temps seriously because they are from Phoenix or Vegas and it hits 105 or higher. I live 1.5 hours south of St. Louis and I hate summers here. Even when you wake up at 5am in the morning and it is upper 70's to low 80's it is nasty. The humidity makes you feel nasty as soon as you step out. In the heat of the day the air feels so thick it actually seems hard to breathe.
I have been to both Vegas and Phoenix many times and I will take their 110 of dry heat over our 95 humid heat any day of the year. Dry heat feels like an oven, but it just feels hot where as here it feels like a horrible sauna where it is hot, thick, and sticky. - acdcfanbill, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/31479910/ns/sports-t ...
Here you go :) - deadasdisco, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3i was at the game too, i guess i missed this. it was ***** hot though.
- IniNew, on 06/27/2009, -1/+4Reading is overrated.
- groberts1980, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3No, it really was before the game. God Bless America is sung just before the Star Spangled Banner before the first pitch.
- dmez1214, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3They were asked to delay today's game until the evening not yesterday's game.
- Shwaavay, on 06/27/2009, -2/+5Well it was before the game started, don't know too many who arrive for day games drunk.
- mooninite, on 06/27/2009, -1/+4Go look up Houston on a map. Houston is humidity city. 101 in Houston is ~121 with heat index.
- dstory, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3I love the line "Walsh said the fan fell on to an empty seat after grazing a nearby female fan."
I can understand falling if you were really into "grazing" on a female. - partrow, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2Natural selection in action.
- Zetal, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2"The fan apparently toppled over a front-row railing and fell about one story to the concourse while a youth choir was singing 'God Bless America.'"
Hahahaha! - elf25, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2All I'm saying is that them stairs are steep.
- Ecuno, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2It is Carlos Gomez, he is the Twins' center field. It was a pitch in the Brewers' series that hit him in the forehead and rolled up his head, throwing his hat off.
I love my Twins - nerddtvg, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2From someone currently living in St. Louis: While the actual temperature has been in the 90s, the heat index has been in the upper 100s with a very high humidity. It's too hard on people's bodies to be outside for that long without some kind of protection.
- groberts1980, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2I've been to day games in the summer here before, you just don't drink beer. Gotta drink water.
