- moose_diggs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Its been told to me by a source at Bristol (tech guy) that he had made advances toward a woman there and it got ugly.
- FederalSource, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27At least it wasn't related to the little league world series.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Or Steven "Screamin" A. Smith...
- sheinypoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22rumor has it as sexual harassment
http://www.deadspin.com/sports/espn/was-this-why-harold-got-the-axe-189733.php - fitzfan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Were you expecting ESPN.com to put up a big front page story?
- Fenster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17You are the guy who calls in to say he has no opion in all those polls aren't you?
- brian4572, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16damn he was a big part of that show. Peter Gammons and Harold were the mainstays of that show with Ravech. Wow. This came out of nowhere.
- greenjestur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Did Harold Reynolds really look that good in HD to warrant the purchase of an HDTV?
- Stratacaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14If that's the reason, they would have to fire most of the network.
- cwill341, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Peter Gammons may not have much longer or may not even come back with his health issues. That would be a shame to lose two of the best in a short time.
- SlackerCSB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Meanwhile...
Michael Irvin is still employed by ESPN.
Unbelieveable. - thedove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13man, that is a SHOCK! i really preferred his baseball analysis over ANYBODY at ESPN. he just had a way of explaining what was happening in a very simple way. and not in a john madden "tell you what you already know" way
- CraigB12, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18He was one of the anchors that didn't make me throw up in my mouth when i heard his voice (like Joe Buck although he's at Fox). They probably caught him jerking-off on the bosses desk. Or, my all-time favorite reason, maybe he ***** in his hand at a big meeting and threw it against the wall.
- goob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Wow, he was by far their best voice on Baseball Tonight. Here's to hoping the Mariners look into hiring him as a new colorman.
- bcardarella, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Harold Reynolds gets fired but Kruk and Morgan get to stay? There is no justice.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11seriously? Harold Reynolds is the reason you got a HDTV?
- dpoehls, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12agreed..kruk and morgan are both awful...btw reminds me of one of my favorite sites on the net
http://www.firejoemorgan.com = hilarious! - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Why couldn't this be Stuart Scott?
- brian4572, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10What?!?!? this has to be a joke. Everything was fine at the all star game coverage. Wow.
- itsmikey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yea, this came out of nowhere.
Maybe it was the A-Rod debate the other day?
I've always thought that Harold was one of the best. - zetamilk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I would rather see Chris Berman, Joe Morgan or John Miller go. Harold wasn't annoying and actually knew what he was talking about.
- Bigcat151, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Nothing is funnier than listening to Tony Gwynn's commentary. His natural voice sounds like a black comedian's impersonation of a white guy.
- EgriZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8i'm pissed, him and gammons were the only thing besides highlights that didn't scare me away from baseball tonight
- KerbDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Or perhaps he didn't talk about the Red Sox and Yankees enough. At ESPN, if you don't talk about Red Sox/Yankees all the time, your ass is grass.
- wicked9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6actually with the way the twins have been playing...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7no reynolds? no gammons?
two words:
steve stone. - Scottish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah... because MLB players lives are more soap opera-esque than the National Felons League and the Hip-Hop Association...good thinking, buddy.
- digduggler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5deadspin updated their page:
"Another reader, with "contacts on the inside," refutes the sexual harassment whispers: "Anyone who is saying sexual harassment either has been given bad third-hand info or is lying. Harold has had a couple of rather heated arguments with the producers at "Baseball Tonight," and some of the suits at ESPN over the program's coverage of Alex Rodriguez. At the last production meeting, when it was made clear they were going to really play up the A-Rod angle during coverage of the Yankees-Texas series, Harold had a colossal meltdown, which led to his dismissal. The sexual harassment allegations are even more laughable when you consider that he is being replaced by Steve Phillips -- a man who has never met a skirt he wouldn't chase and who was caught in one of the more embarrassing front office sexual harassment scandals in MLB history."
True? Not true? This, like the rest of it, just reinforces our point: We don't know. And the longer ESPN pretends like nothing happened, like they're a corner shop with three employees, believing this stuff can possibly remain private, the more talk there will be. Still, this is the lone "it's not sexual harassment email" we've received" - pt4117, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I read Craig's comment the other way. I thought he hated Buck too.
- elcoqui121, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This sucks, he was so much fun. He would do the softball games too. He'll be picked up by Fox or MSG or something.
- KerbDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Stoney rocks. I miss him so very bad doing Cubs games.
There's no one better. - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Figured it was something like that. If somebody gets sacked suddenly, you can almost bet that they were doing something (or trying to do something) with somebody from work that they shouldn't have.
Wonder if he was trying to show some of the summer interns "the real inside part of sports broadcasting"? - dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I guess ESPN continues their quest to make sports unwatchable. Harold was the best commentator on their network, by far.
- KerbDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The biggest thing in baseball? I get that idea from the fact that ESPN is based in the heart of Red Sox Nation. As far as they can tell, nobody talks about anything else.
The fans are annoying, the ballpark sucks and David Ortiz is a 'roider. There are lots of just as or more interesting storylines we can be covering, including the resurgent Twins. ESPN just falls back on the Red Sox/Yankees thing too easily sometimes, because they think it brings in ratings and it's drama. That's what they're looking for.
And, by the way, yes, lots of people complained when the Jordan Love Fest was in its hey day. - monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Considering how boring the latest batch of new guys are then I'm surprised to see Harold be the one to get the axe. I guess he didn't kiss up to Boston enough to make management happy.
- MrC539, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Notice how when A-Rod has a bad day (like his golden sombrero the other day vs Toronto) they devote like a 15 minute segment to him. When Ortiz has a bad day (like his golden sombrero in May vs the Yankees) it's barely mentioned. Also notice how they've written the Yankees off already (2.5 GB) but yet they keep saying that the White Sox will win the Central easily (7.5GB, not to mention they're 1-5 against the Yankees and Red Sox).
- treleung, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5He didn't mention Buck as being good, 'craig' said buck made him throw up in his mouth.
- TylerDurden0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes he did. He also traded away the best young arm the Mets have had in a long, long time.
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He made Baseball tonight... without him, is there anything really left?
- bprice25, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Amen to that!!! While they're at it they can get rid of Chris Berman as well. I'm sick of his stupid nicknames and talking until he's out of breath. The whole network has really gone downhill the last few years. Whatever happened to covering sports and showing highlights? Enough with the 'Fact or Fiction', 'Bud Hot Seat', and all the other useless gameshow like crap they do anymore.
- IKilled007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3IKilled007 has just confirmed that ESPN is no longer part of his cable network.
- SlackerCSB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I hope you're joking.
- JoshCatone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This just in, EPSN fires HR for refusing to kiss Theo Epstein's ass.
What a TERRIBLE move by ESPN. Harold Reynolds was their best analyst. How can they fire him and keep Steve Phillips? (Ugh.)
Complain here: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?page=contact/espntv - sloppy177, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ESPN just released this little statement on their website, too bad no one is saying anything
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2529688
I hope it was b/c of the A-Rod thing b/c Harold seemed to be the fans voice on BBT, but with a lot more knowledge of the game, I'm sick of hearing how A-rod went 0 for last night with an error, people just don't care anymore - evilempire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Unless you are somehow related to Harold Reynolds - that would be really creepy.
- skubiszm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I like the Krukster. I can do without Morgan.
- SlackerCSB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I betcha he ate something off Chris Berman's plate in the cafeteria and Chris had him canned.
- wicked9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2or harold isn't on tv anymore...
- Fenster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Who is going to do the Little League World Series? That stinks.
- Aero1, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8@goob - "Mariners look into hiring him as a new colorman."
you sir are a racist! -
