- BlatheringIdiot, on 11/08/2008, -0/+4Yeah- it's suck if they stuck some company name on 'Wrigley Field' -- hey wasn't that some chewing gum company?

- BlatheringIdiot, on 11/08/2008, -1/+5Mark Cuban is a $RICH$ douchebag.
there - fixed. - kylemech, on 11/07/2008, -2/+5If only the article elaborated on WHY it has the title it does.
- metallimus, on 11/07/2008, -1/+4As a Cardinals fan, I'm quite pleased with this news.
Also, is there a reason a picture of the Mets' David Wright accompanies this story? - inactive, on 11/08/2008, -0/+3Well, today it's selling out... but the sellout lasts 100 years, it's historic.
- dreslimmul, on 11/08/2008, -0/+3The title gives a statement that the article says but doesn't explain, so let me try my best to understand.
1) Mark Cuban is a billionaire and Major League Baseball has no salary cap. He spend a load of cash for players which ends up driving the price up for players (all players, not only the good ones) and the Cubs become the National League "Yankees" with a roster through the roof. This ends up costing the owners money in the end and thus the owners, who must approve the selling of a team, obviously don't want this. My question here is... "If the Yankees and Red Sox do it, which they have driven the price up for player, why not let the Cubs do it as well so they can win a damn World Series eventually?" or "finally give a team salary cap, despite the bitching of the players union (which is ridiculously over-powered, i.e. original rejection of steroid testing)".
OR
2) They think Mark Cuban is a little pansy bitch and just don't like his face? - inactive, on 11/08/2008, -0/+2How many small market dynasties have there been in baseball since 1980 (free agent era)? Zero... and it's not on accident.
- cheezemunkey45, on 11/08/2008, -0/+2It is pretty damn sad MLB is too stuck up for Mark Cuban. No owner in the world puts themselves at the same level of people that pay their salary(the fans) like Mark Cuban Does.
- centran, on 11/07/2008, -1/+3great... and in comes a corporation that will change the name of Wrigley Field. At least they can't take down the marquee as it is a historical landmark. However, the actual name can be changed.
- inactive, on 11/08/2008, -0/+2An area where they have quite a bit of expertise.
- Linguo, on 11/08/2008, -0/+2Why the ***** would the MLB owners want ANOTHER Steinbrenner running up player salaries? Imagine a bidding war between the two.
- chrisp9446, on 11/08/2008, -0/+2Because the Cubs don't already have a high-enough payroll ($118MM)...
- Tegurit34, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Cleveland dominated the AL Central '95-2001, and the A's were super competitive in the best division in baseball 2000 to 2003. But I think what he's talking about is taking over a small market team and pumping a ton of payroll into it like Arte Moreno did with the Angels in 2004.
- nobleexperiment, on 11/07/2008, -2/+4He can save money by buying the Pittsburgh Pirates or the San Diego Padres and turn a small market team to a dynasty.
- helooksmortal, on 11/07/2008, -1/+2It's because Selig and the owners association don't want him in. Plain and simple.
- helooksmortal, on 11/07/2008, -1/+2Nothing is confirmed until it happens... which probably won't be until the winter meetings in 2009.
And, at least it looks like we're close to getting Peavy this offseason! - AmyVernon, on 11/07/2008, -3/+4What really stinks about this is he's the one Zell wants to sell to, it appears, and the one the fans want to buy the team. Who doesn't? The other owners, his would-be competitors if he were to buy it. Stinks.
- darladoon, on 11/07/2008, -2/+3so cuban offered 1.3 billion, and the cubs declined.
now, with a sagging economy, they'll be lucky to get 2/3 of that.
looks like the cubs lost this one..... - GutterBumber, on 11/07/2008, -1/+2Just be thankful it wasn't Jeter.
- gkiltz, on 11/08/2008, -0/+1He basically lost his chance to be an MLB owner when he was not even in the final 3 on the Washington Nationals!
- Asten77, on 11/08/2008, -1/+2Go Ricketts!
- JeffBrownback, on 11/08/2008, -0/+1i love baseball. and i love to play sports.
- chicagojack, on 11/07/2008, -6/+7This is HORRIBLE
- Excelleme, on 11/08/2008, -1/+2MLB owners don't want Cuban, it sucks for us Cubs fans :(
- diggwebq, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0Nothing is confirmed until it happens... which probably won't be until the winter meetings in 2009.

- darladoon, on 11/07/2008, -1/+1sorry, the cubs didn't decline, but the tribune did.
- jdubu37, on 11/07/2008, -4/+3Mark Cuban is a douchebag.
