- JerichoKS, on 11/13/2008, -3/+11But I enjoyed his annual comebacks followed by his annual stint on the DL.
- dtpollitt, on 11/14/2008, -1/+8This title is misleading. Kerry has not signed with another team. Gregg may be apart of a greater Jake Peavy trade (as the Padres are dumping salaries and seem willing to part with Hoffman), and although Wood wants a 4-5 year deal, it would be almost ridiculous to find a team that will give him that. Kerry has been the face of this franchise for over a decade, has taken a hometown discount more than once, and is the most beloved Cub. I do not want to see him go in the least.
- nochilinopity, on 11/14/2008, -0/+7Just wondering...are there a ton of Diggers from Chicago? I always seem to see Cubs and Bears stories hitting the front page (I fall into this category, FWIW)
- Guitarist970, on 11/14/2008, -0/+5Jim Hendry is on record as stating that he believes that Kerry deserves a 4-5 year deal, and the Cubs are not in a position to offer that kind of contract to him. As a Cubs fan I do hate to see Wood go, he was as much of a Cub as any player and showed a huge amount of heart to keep coming back from injury year after year when he could have easily called it quits. I hope the best for him where ever he ends up and hope the rest of his playing days are healthy and productive ones.
- tawnos, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4oh noes!
- mecharabbit, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3I think back to the day when Kerry Wood and Mark Prior were poised to be the backbone of the rotation for a team with a lot of promise. It's a shame that the promise wasn't delivered to the fine fans on the North Side. But there's always next year!
- CubFan185, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3That's sad. He did really well last year too. I hope he gets a job as a pitching coach or something, somewhere, if he's truly done with his playing career.
He and his wife were such nice people and good for Chicago. He was always in the top running for those MLB humanitarian awards, always being the Cub's nominee. Good guy, good pitcher, bad luck with injuries. - benjio, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2You're way too into sports. Why are you so angry?
- WickedClown, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2A good replacement for Homerun Howry and it'll be great to see Marmol become the closer.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -3/+5Nothing wrong with this trade..Im a long time Cubs fan and like Kerry, but its time to let him go, hes done his time/job, and done it well. Hope whatever team he goes on he does well, wish him nothing but the best, he was a awesome Cubs fan and enjoyed the live games.
(if this is official) - GreatMan05, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2I'm sure some team will still give him $15m/yr to sit on the DL.
- Cdbr200X, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2thank you. I hate how no one gives respect anymore to the players that played for the majority of their careers with a team and played well. people just rip on them for not being good now, lot of ***** fans out there...
- dtpollitt, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2If you're a longtime Cubs fan you'd know we gave up Jose Ceda in this trade, who is a fireballer. And Kevin Gregg is like a more athletic "Turtle" from Entourage. He sucks.
- TortillaChip, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Did you actually read the article? Wood is definitely finished. The title of the article from ESPN is "Cubs: Kerry Wood won't be back after trade for Kevin Gregg"
- adamroach, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1He coulda been a contenda!
- jakobmakob, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1It would be a crime to let him go.
- Tegurit34, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1The Padres are good at recognizing undervalued and overvalued talents. I doubt they'd have interest in giving up anything of quality for a package including Gregg as nothing more than a throw-in.
- Tegurit34, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1I don't understand this trade either. Kevin Gregg is replacement level and a player of his quality doesn't require a good relief prospect to acquire.
- jakobmakob, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1I'm a huge Cubs fan, but I live in Idaho.
- gkiltz, on 11/14/2008, -0/+0Be interesting to see where he ends up!
I've heard unconfirmed rumors that Washington is planning to win enough games to actually need a closer!
That could be an even bigger story!! - guildford, on 11/14/2008, -0/+0Too sad :(
- diggwebq, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0I think back to the day when Kerry Wood and Mark Prior were poised to be the backbone of the rotation for a team with a lot of promise. It's a shame that the promise wasn't delivered to the fine fans on the North Side. But there's always next year!

- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -2/+0NO WAY!
- intmailmc, on 11/14/2008, -8/+3TwoLoud, you're a typical idiot cub fan. He HASN'T BEEN TRADED. And this is official meathead. He's a free agent and can sign anywhere he pleases right now and the Cubs aren't willing to resign him to a multi-year deal. Read the article again. And when you're at Wrigley Field this year, don't be screaming at the infield popup thinking it's going to leave the park when the Cubs are at the plate.
- bbrassi, on 11/14/2008, -6/+1I appreciate your comments. Cubs fans are idiots.
