- s5demigh, on 07/19/2009, -0/+16If LA gets Halladay, then the Giants should just focus on winning the Wild Card because (I really hate saying this as an SF fan) if it goes down, it's over for the NL West division.
- Gaffigan, on 07/19/2009, -2/+15It's already over for the NL West, Dodgers are gonna take it again, Halladay or not :)
Halladay would be awesome in Dodger Blue, but apparently the Jays want Kershaw + others for him.
*****. That.
Halladay will be good for a few more years, Kershaw's good and barely 21. - jayhawk88, on 07/19/2009, -0/+11They're ***** anyway, they're 11 games out in a division that has the Sox, Yanks, and Rays. Why not try and turn Halladay (who would probably leave via FA after '10 anyway) into the core of a young pitching staff going forward?
- DonCurryOnly, on 07/19/2009, -0/+10We're not gonna trade Doc to our division rivals ***** that. His best fit would be Phillies they need some starting pitchers.
- jayhawk88, on 07/19/2009, -0/+8This isn't a case where the Yanks can just outbid everyone to make it happen. The Jays want players, and the price the Yankees are going to have to pay in players to land Hallady is going to be inflated compared to other teams. Sure they could perhaps do something ridiculous like offer Joba/Hughes/several other minor leaguers and take on the Vernon Wells contract, but why would they do that? Decimate your bullpen AND your farm system for Halladay? And even if they were to do that, someone like the Red Sox has a lot more and better young pitching prospects they could use to trump any offer the Yanks made.
- threat42, on 07/19/2009, -1/+8***** ***** ***** J. P. Ricciardi.
- theCreator79, on 07/19/2009, -1/+8Sorry to break this to you but it's been over for the NL West division. Dodgers all the way!
- bluejays47, on 07/19/2009, -1/+8Typical Yankee arrogance.
- Vbp6us, on 07/19/2009, -2/+8Go Dodgers.
- threat42, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5We would love to keep him in Toronto, but like everything in Toronto, the team is mismanaged, poorly financed and everything good has to leave.
***** J. P. Ricciardi! - TobiasParker, on 07/19/2009, -0/+5Marked.
- fiziks, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6There is no way Halladay stays in the AL East.
- ferory, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4How much longer is Toronto going to keep J. P. Ricciardi around. He is the worst GM in baseball, and will not be around next season.
What sense does it make to have a GM with no future in Toronto making decisions about the future of Toronto. Replace him asap. - Tayloristehsux, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4I cheer for my small-market Minnesota Twins. We don't buy our way to the top.
- CWest540, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4PLEASE SEND HALLADAY TO THE NL
I'm sick and tired of the Yankees and Red Sox working the rest of the AL East like they are farm teams. IMO if the jays trade halladay to anyone in the AL chances are they won't get what hes worth. - YamsterYams, on 07/18/2009, -10/+14Mark my words: Roy's in pinstripes in two weeks.
- zioxide, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Eh, the amount of quality players they'll get back will give Toronto a much better chance of competing in the AL East in 2-3 years.
- SnapETom, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Dodgers are stupid to trade either Billingsly or Kershaw. Both are young, cheap, exciting guys that the Dodgers will control for several years. Halladay's a 32 year old coming off a DL stint, and is a FA after 2010. Ned, if you do this, you are geniunely a *****. God, I hate that this is even being rumored.
- iMLoStx, on 07/19/2009, -1/+5Please let this happen
- YodaOfDarkness, on 07/19/2009, -1/+4Use a pen next time, pencil can be erased!
- rockstar1o9, on 07/19/2009, -1/+4I thought the Phils just added Pedro?
- enthreeoh, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Happ has been pitching in the majors this year (and pretty amazingly, though you can draw comparisons to Kendrick of last year...). Bastardo came up and got hurt. Drabek needs more time they say but I'd love to see him get a shot at the 5th spot. Donald is blocked at SS by Jimmy Rollins who has been hot lately, there was talk of converting him (Donald) to 3rd but they don't know if he'll have the offensive production to fit there. Mayberry has been up this year platooning for time in the outfield/pinch hitting. And I really have no idea as to why they aren't trying to work Lou Marson in yet, he's supposed to be the catcher of the future...
- YodaOfDarkness, on 07/19/2009, -1/+4I'm guessing you don't buy any houses or hotels in Monopoly, either...
- TBickle77, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3For all those that thunk Hall will end up with the Yanks I assure you he isn't. The yanks have no more money (hard to believe I know) and also they are not all that excited about making trades. That is why they didn't trade their francise for Santana. Yanks have an almost unlimited budget but won't trade key talent.
- lafan313, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Franchise? Weren't the Twins asking for Phil Hughes?
- Peko, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2If he goes, he's more than earned my respect. A proven top tier workhorse and he's got the records to show for it. I worry a bit that Bosh (and similar respect to Bosh) might be in a similar boat soon. I won't mention some other recent star who whined his way through his last coupla seasons. But here's a tip, his name rhymed with Wince.
So, I ended up trying to figure it out, cuz it's kinda interesting. Both are very top tier players on an underachieving team. I know it's a little bit applesoranges - but who's better, Bosh or Halladay? - Sniper, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2The likelihood of Halladay going anywhere is slim enough as it is. Any team that wants him will have to sacrifice a lot to get him.
- thetango, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Interesting .... 'cept Riccardi has said that he wants prospects, not position players that are going to bail on his team in a few years....
- Fhwqhgads, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Dammit Jays, if you trade the Doc, you're *****.
- brokencode, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2He's going nowhere.
- Blinker1315, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1It's a shame that the Twins' ownership, the wealthiest in MLB, hides behind the "small market" excuse to cheat their fans and let players like Santana and Hunter go. And what's with no roof for the new stadium in Minneapolis? Snow-outs will be a regular feature next April.
- TobiasParker, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2http://tinyurl.com/klh23q
Much better than pen. - RatatRatR, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1While it's not terribly relevant here, I agree that the open stadium is a bad idea up there. (Maybe they're banking on some heavy-duty global warming!) I never thought the Metrodome is as bad as some people say, either.
- enthreeoh, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Pedro will be lucky to see the fifth spot in the rotation, if not be converted into a 2-3 inning guy out of the bullpen. If Pedro does have a lock on the 5th spot and Halladay becomes a member of the Phillies, it'll be interesting to see who stays in the rotation. Even with the gem pitched a few days ago, I think Moyer ends up being the odd one out.
- drivingalone, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Come on fhwqhgads. I said come on, fhwqhgads. Everybody to the limit.
- dreambucket, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1They're not being promoted because the roster is already stuffed to the brim with MVPs, all stars, and gold glove winners, except at pitcher anyway
- smacksaw, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I watched Bastardo...I had to laugh at his name. I'm sure Dan LeBatard feels for him.
I wonder if they are maybe holding Drabek back because he doesn't quite have it and he's better in the imagination of other GMs than in the reality of the big league spotlight.
September is going to be interesting for the Phillies with all of those guys (if any of them are still around). By then they should have things in hand enough to give them a real tryout. - smacksaw, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1What I don't understand about the Phillies is if they have all of these great prospects up in AAA, why aren't they promoting them? I haven't heard a satisfactory explanation to this. Invariably, whoever got traded to Toronto would be pitching there right away. Thus, these are major league pitchers.
I still say the best solution is a 3 or 4 team deal including Seattle and Cleveland. Washburn should go, Bedard wants and needs to go, Clevelend needs something for Lee...if somehow Toronto could end up with Lee and Washburn or Bedard, Philly with Halladay and Seattle and Cleveland with prospects, that would be a win for all involved.
I'd broker that deal if I was any of those teams. - mizatt, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I don't think I would lose any sleep if they traded Billingsley. He's done well, but he walks a lot of guys and throws a ton of pitches. His long-term durability may become an issue at some point and he just strikes me as one of those guys who's going to command a lot more money than he's worth when his contract is up.
- Rethcir, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Why do you say that? Rios, Hill, etc are pretty good young guys. It wouldn't take all that long (under 5 years) for them to be the 08 Rays if they are patient developing some prospects.
- thetango, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Any trade involving Halladay will come with a 48 hour negotiation period in order to sign Halladay to a long term deal. I suspect he's looking at 18-25 million a season for maybe 6 years.
And there are teams that will give that to him. - bigthree, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1i don't think the yankees need to spend another $100 million --- of they can' win with their exiting pitching and offense they should be ashamed
- bermudianguy, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1As a Red Sox fan I am okay with the Sox not picking him up as long as the MFY's don't get him either.
- speedk0re, on 08/06/2009, -0/+1haha you look like a dumbass now
- Rethcir, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Yay 2001.
- merdiesel, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2Dodger fans = worst fans in sports
For all the ***** Dodger fans have given Bonds over the years, it doesn't surprise me how quickly they are back sucking that cheater Manny's dick. - mizatt, on 07/20/2009, -1/+1Dodger fans gave Bonds ***** because he was on the Giants, not just because he was on roids
- johnbonham1, on 07/19/2009, -1/+1I'm a pirates fan and we also don't buy oursleves to the top but we find no other way it to the top.
- s5demigh, on 07/19/2009, -2/+0Only if Manny stays off the drugs. There's a reason SF got rid of Bonds, lol
- gusyehia, on 07/19/2009, -3/+1thats nice ...
