- bigmac375, on 08/27/2008, -2/+83Dugg for "Southside". Then I imagined him saying, "..*****."
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -9/+75Sure. Anyone can have a bad century...
- BrentDPayne, on 08/27/2008, -8/+49I'm a Cubs fan but he has a point . . . not a one of them are watching the game closely. Interesting observation.
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -5/+45A teacher asks her students if they're Cubs fans. All of the hands go up except for one student.
"Okay, Bobby. What team are you a fan of?"
"The White Sox."
"Why's that?"
"Well, my parents are both White Sox fans, so I'm a White Sox fan too."
"That's not a good answer, Bobby. If your parents were both morons, would you be a moron too?"
"No, that would make me a Cubs fan!" - APHughes, on 08/26/2008, -33/+63Cubs are baseball
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -2/+31Johnny McCain should go for those Cubs voters in the new ad. “Barack Obama just dissed you team, can we afford Sox fan in the white house?” I’m Johnny and I approve this message.
- datacowboy, on 08/27/2008, -2/+28Awesome! I always found it stupid that politicians feel the need to straddle the fence on everything - even trivial stuff like sports. And I love sports. Obama is a Sox fan, and he proclaims it. How refreshing. Look, if a politician can't be honest about what sports team he/she follows, how can we expect his/her honesty on the much more critical issues?
It's a heck of a lot better than the typical lame response, "Oh I just hope for a good game.... and both sides play at their best." - inactive, on 08/27/2008, -6/+26Why doesn't anyone like the Royals?
- jcharak58, on 08/26/2008, -19/+38I think he is trying to get my vote.... good for him.... yea SOX
- loconet, on 08/27/2008, -1/+19then again.. Cubs fans probably not following what he says that closely either ;)
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -2/+18Bush caused the cubs to suck for 100 years. its true.
- MysticSavage, on 08/27/2008, -0/+15Oh *****, it's Wayne Brady!!
- flashboy131, on 08/27/2008, -6/+21you haven't lived until you have seen a game at Wrigley. Go Cubs!
- TheSarf, on 08/27/2008, -1/+16I think it has to do with the fact that Obama is a Senator from Illinois....and...I dunno, cause they aren't from ILLINOIS.
Sidenote: I actually like them, but they have ***** management. - dalnet22, on 08/27/2008, -6/+20My first thought was Obama's pretty stereotypical to say the Cubs fans aren't watching and that it's not serious. Sounds like a typical southsider to me.
- kidathinnes, on 08/27/2008, -4/+17I am no Cubs fan but to be fair, the fans at Wrigley are big time into games. Sure there is a ***** of drinking, but the fact they have no amenities(complex scoreboard, jumbo-tron, batting lineup) pretty much forces you to pay attention.
- joebottherobot, on 08/27/2008, -4/+17He's going to lose a few votes over that comment...
- evets616, on 08/27/2008, -2/+14When Obama is responsible for ***** our country up, we'll start blaming him, alright? Is that fair enough?
- bmorrow, on 08/27/2008, -1/+12He has a 13 point lead in Illinois. I doubt he will lose the State. Even if he came out and said the Sox and Cubs both suck I doubt he would lose the State.
- JInnsbrook, on 08/27/2008, -6/+16Yeah .. who doesn't like the terrible sight lines... the concrete falling on your head... or the smell of urine throughout "Ballpark"...
- krahzee, on 08/27/2008, -0/+10Bad example. The Lakers actually win titles. Unlike the Cubs, the White Sox have actually won one in the last 100 years.
- bjs3171, on 08/27/2008, -0/+10yep. why is the political magazine that is Sports Illustrated asking questions about sports, anyway?
- thebaron2, on 08/27/2008, -3/+12Sure we are! It's such an old stadium there's not much to do BUT watch the game. We don't have a jumbotron with hi-tech graphic effects like newer stadiums, so we've actually got to pay attention as things happen.
I'd say 1/3 of the people show up to party, 1/3 show up to watch the game, and 1/3 do both.
Regardless - what does it matter? As long as you and whoever you're watching the game with are paying attention does it really make a difference if the chick 3 rows up is studying Zambrano's warmup throws or making out with the chick next to her? - TimeForGuinness, on 08/27/2008, -1/+10...but he may pick up more votes from St. Louis ;)
- ratbear, on 08/27/2008, -0/+8What does a castrated bear and the World Series have in common?
No cubs. - Primatelord, on 08/27/2008, -0/+8As a Cubs fan, this enrages me. However, he gets props from me 'cause he's honest about it and stuck by that statement without trying to sugarcoat it.
- JInnsbrook, on 08/27/2008, -13/+20Yup ... for 100 Years they have been Minor League Baseball
- j0hn, on 08/27/2008, -1/+8We aren't the only country that plays baseball...
- nochilinopity, on 08/27/2008, -1/+8What about all the Central American, South American, and Asian countries that love baseball?
You don't have as many allies as you think. - StupotAce, on 08/27/2008, -0/+7You can argue baseball all day long. You can argue politics all day long.
Now that they've been combined, will anybody ever shut up? - TheMarenum, on 08/27/2008, -1/+7I think God is an Angels fan.
- Maxmaxxwell, on 08/27/2008, -0/+6Because David Glass is a *****. Actually I like the Royals, just not their crypt keeper owner.
- Narcism, on 08/27/2008, -0/+6Stay out of riverside, *****!
- rthakidn, on 08/27/2008, -2/+7Give him a week, he'll be a cubs fan.
- PwnisherX, on 08/27/2008, -13/+18Cubs are fail.
- TheMarenum, on 08/27/2008, -4/+9At least people actually show up at Cubs games. You can get in free at Sox games if you show up with 4 Coke cans. They can barely give that ***** away.
- fissionignition, on 08/27/2008, -10/+15Psssh, he doesn't know what he's talking about, AL baseball's not real baseball...
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -1/+6POW
- evets616, on 08/27/2008, -2/+7You must have missed that week when he presented the most detailed and comprehensive energy plan for our country that a candidate proposed. There were plenty of idiot Republican replies focused on his advice to keep our tires inflated that ignored the rest of the excellent measures contained in the plan.
- Ellsworthskate, on 08/27/2008, -1/+5I hear he's treated like a rockstar.
- richlizard24, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4@thebaron2:
The Cubs fan base reminds me of the Red Wings fan base. You can go to away games and you would think that you were actually in Detroit. - jcharak58, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4NICE
- natenovs, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4it helps having an extra bonus player
- saranac7, on 08/27/2008, -4/+8YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD..................YYYEEEESSSSSSS! Mercy!
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -2/+6He figures the White Sox fans are more likely to be swing voters.
- jvittetoe, on 08/27/2008, -5/+9and the billions of American tax payer dollars he wants to spend to fight global poverty...rofl
- marinLETOILE, on 08/27/2008, -13/+17Obama has it right. The Cubs are for tourists.
- thebaron2, on 08/27/2008, -8/+12But does anyone's fans stick by them for a century?
The cubs have, hands down, the most die hard fans in baseball. At home they're 40k+ for every game and when they're away at least 1/2 the crowd is rooting for them.
Sure, WGN's national coverage helps a lot, but still... their fan base is impressive. - IndigoMoss, on 08/27/2008, -0/+3Haha whoever would not vote for someone because they don't like their sports team is a complete ***** idiot. I'm sorry, but it's true.
- IndigoMoss, on 08/27/2008, -0/+3I went to a concert in St.Pete about 4 months ago. We passed Tropicana Stadium, there was about 1000 people all wearing the blue. It was pretty amazing, not a single Devil Rays fan in sight. It was kinda like being in Chicago again, truly amazing.
