- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -2/+21I think Mark Cuban would be great for baseball. Mind you, I'm not a Cubs fan but I do think Cuban would be good for MLB. I think anyone would like his "Maverick" approach to try to breath life into a franchise just as he did for the Dallas basketball team. Personally, I don't care for the owner getting in the middle of a player huddle, but that's just me.
I hope Mark gets the Cubs because for some reason, I would like to see the "good ol boy" network of MLB deal with a loner like Cuban. This was a good read, and I will say I'm a little tired of the press highlighting how Cuban always argues with the refs. Didn't a ref recently get charged with POINTS scandal? So shouldn't someone have been arguing calls? - AmyVernon, on 08/03/2008, -3/+12interesting article; I think he'd make an excellent owner for the Cubs. Just don't take 'em out of Chicago!!!! :-)
- PenguinChaser, on 08/04/2008, -1/+9Whoever buys the Cubbies better not rename Wrigley.
- ironeus, on 08/03/2008, -2/+9Nice hooker analogy :) & "serial e-mailer" almost sounds like a crime. Good luck with your bid!
- haydesigner, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5"to try to breath life into a franchise"
Yeah, because the Cubs are doing soooo poorly this year (and last). - basye, on 08/03/2008, -1/+6Yep, he would certainly do his share of ***** stirring which they really need.
- jcorn1, on 08/03/2008, -4/+9Thanks for the info, not a huge follower of baseball but found this interesting and loved having the heads up about it.
- Pusod, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3he will fit right in... he's also a great business man.
- samimnot, on 08/04/2008, -0/+31995 he starts up, Broadcast.com with a college buddy "a single server and ISDN line"
1999 he sells it to Yahoo....for 6 Billion
If any of us had his kind of money ;-) we'd be buying "toys" like this, to... - ownwonnow, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3It's easy, you call it Wrigley Field at (Insert Corporate Name) Stadium. It's moumentally stupid, but it happens.
I still don't like that they're talking about giving it the axe. Wrigley, Fenway, and Yankee Stadium are icons. I still think it's a shame that they're going to raze it ... and I hate the Yankees. - schmiggyjk, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2It may not be their choice.
The tribune is seeking to sell the team and the field seperately to maximize their profit. If this happens the team owner will have no control of the stadium naming rights.
I hate the idea myself, but even if it is sold, people will still call it wrigley regardless. - techdever, on 08/04/2008, -1/+3Buying this is the latest project of mine
- Ajajadude, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2The last thing baseball needs is another self-centered jerk who thinks everything is about him. We already have that in the form of Steinbrenner & Co. and I guarantee you no Cubs player is going to enjoy having their owner sitting behind homeplate making an ass out of himself for all to hear.
Cuban is a distraction from the game. He's not a player or a coach. He shouldn't be getting involved in calling out refs during games, whether they're point shaving or not. NBA refs might be shady *****, but baseball umps aren't shady and won't take kindly to Cuban jawing away at them. - ownwonnow, on 08/04/2008, -1/+3God, what I wouldn't give for him to buy the Pirates. Come on, Pennsylvania boy, how about some loyalty?
He'd be a fine owner for the Cubs, or any team, for that matter, but he'll ruffle a lot of people's feathers. It could go either way. He put a bid in with Dan Marino to buy the Penguins and the NHL told him to take a hike. - Ajajadude, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1I can see companies being hesitant to buying Wrigley. If they buy it and change the name, there will be a huge backlash against them. Of course, why buy a stadium/park when you can't have it named after your company?
- coyasun, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1What Cuban did in Chicago last night is a testament to how great of an owner he would be. http://www.cubanandthecubs.com
- ownwonnow, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Gee, really? I hadn't the slightest ***** clue.
"And besides who wants the Pirates"
Who the ***** ever wanted the Mavericks? - ownwonnow, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Tell that to the Yankees, the Red Sox, and the Mets.
- narprajapati, on 09/02/2008, -0/+0What is this topic about . Please let me understand this topic only then i will be able to understand this
- EAMUS1CATULI, on 08/04/2008, -1/+1***** you lmcontrol. GO GUBS!!!! BITCH!!
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -3/+3you are an ignorant uneducated loser. Have you ever thought of at least getting a GED? You would rocket light years from your current state of intelligence.
- TeamBaldwin, on 08/04/2008, -1/+1The repairs to Wrigley have been said to cost between 400-600 million dollars. No one wants to see it go but sometimes you just have to
- EAMUS1CATULI, on 08/04/2008, -2/+1Pirates are not for sale idiot. And besides who wants the Pirates.
- TeamBaldwin, on 08/04/2008, -2/+1Cubs have the most obnoxious fans in baseball (Yes more so than the Red Sox, Yanks). He'd fit right in unfortunately...
- hollywoodphony, on 08/04/2008, -5/+3He has the same last name as you!
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -4/+2He is great for the NBA and He would be great for MLB as well!
- jcorn1, on 08/03/2008, -6/+3Amy - I'm not even a huge follower of baseball but found this one interesting. Thanks for sending it my way, liked reading it :)
- Mckayormacky, on 08/04/2008, -5/+2Yea I remember that one time they won the series.
oh wait... - LMControl, on 08/04/2008, -9/+3Cuban deserves the Cubs...... one loser deserves the other.
- IDIGTHEDIGG, on 08/04/2008, -8/+2***** I hope he dosen't own the Cubs cause he will spend more money and take away players the Mets might get. He's good for the Cubs, and will be a good owner, but will cause problems to the other teams.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -6/+0Mark Cuban does not understand the true value of our ancient pasttime, it is not all hot dogs and singalongs, there is tradition of an ancient, beautiful, and yes sometimes sinister nature.
Mark cuban only sees it in terms of hits and strikes not life and eternal life.
For in the 1million ad hall of statues who will Feature most prominently in our traditions? Sadly I do not know. Does the president throw the first free throw or take the last slapshot? Only baseball commands the needs of our most sacrid office, this game is not a property to be bought or sold but a national commodity not of monetary but spiritual value. When Mark Cuban has cleansed himself in the hidden ocean he will have my important endorsement but until that day I will bid him good morrow!
