Baseball's Feel-good Storylines for 2008 [pics]
sportsillustrated.cnn.com — #3 "Doug Davis | Diamondbacks" - Using baseball as a form of therapy, Doug Davis overcame the grief of being diagnosed with thyroid cancer by pitching regularly right up until his surgery last week. Now back with the Baby `Backs, the 6-foot-4 lefty has recorded 11 strikeouts in two games and boasts a 3.72 ERA...

- code, on 04/17/2008, -4/+5rick ankiel is a tough one....he was in the mitchell report. but from my understanding the league know about already b/c he told them. i could be wrong tho
- wit21, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2Yeah, I was a bit on the fence about it, too. From the looks of it, he was using HGH in '04 when he was trying to come back from surgery. Certainly no excuse, but it makes it more believable that he's clean now, I suppose.
- 9bpm9, on 04/17/2008, -4/+3He was not in the Mitchell report. Pretty sad when people don't even know where it came out that he used HGH and still believe they can form an opinion about it.
- rabs, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3Actually, he WAS in the Mitchell report. However, the Mitchell report revealed nothing new about his HGH usage than when the story originally broke in September 07.
- reverendfitty, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Also, from what i understand, it was legal back then too. Not to condone it, but he had a prescription, and it wasn't against the rules until he stopped
- intoflatlines, on 04/18/2008, -2/+1I agree, but cheaters don't make for good feel good storylines.
- matschig, on 04/17/2008, -16/+2Lame
- DRINKxREDxBULL, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4So far Trey Hillman is doing a hell of a job.
- dcollins, on 04/17/2008, -2/+17Where is Bill Buckner's standing ovation on Sox opening day?
- stopbrorape, on 04/17/2008, -6/+10i guess the met's fans getting rick rolled wasn't feel good.
- mooseontheloose, on 04/17/2008, -5/+4MIke Lowell
- d2340, on 04/17/2008, -1/+7Nolan Ryan is the Chuck Norris of baseball, but he kicks your ass with a ball.
- 9bpm9, on 04/17/2008, -2/+4Yeah, Mike Lowell, a guy who had cancer 9 years ago on the comeback trail.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 04/17/2008, -20/+1Buried, I hate sports on my frontpage.
- jakobmakob, on 04/17/2008, -1/+12Buried, I hate idiots in my comments.
- dan222555, on 04/17/2008, -2/+12"Grrrr sports! Give me more linux, mac, and Obama!"
Nerd. - Eldorian, on 04/17/2008, -1/+10Then remove sports as a category from your front page you idiot.
- WhoDoneIt, on 04/17/2008, -6/+0A different type of "roid" story in baseball. Nice.
- NathanCH, on 04/17/2008, -14/+1If only Americans played sports that required skill and passion.
- jakobmakob, on 04/17/2008, -3/+6Yeah, I also hate soccer.
- Butros, on 04/17/2008, -2/+4We're too intelligent and have to play complicated games like baseball and football. And before you go durr sports go read some baseball brain teasers and realize that there's more strategy than just "run fast! catch ball! throw ball!"...
- MajorLeague, on 04/17/2008, -7/+4I don't get how Ankiel is a feel good story after testing positive for HGH.
- BaronVonTito, on 04/17/2008, -2/+2What about Nelson Figueroa? Came back to the majors and won his first game since 2003.
- adadadada, on 04/17/2008, -8/+2WHO CARES
- Eldorian, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2Trey Hillman is doing a hell of a job with the Royals. I'm really glad to see Grienke back and feeling good about baseball again, talking to the guy you can tell his social skills aren't that great (I'm sure many diggers could relate).
The Royals have been a lot of fun to watch this year so far. - Happytired, on 04/18/2008, -0/+4It is pretty amazing what Ankiel has been through and has accomplished so far. A con Father and brother who both have drug issues, rising to the highest point in his pitching career only to have a humiliating epic fail, unable to relocate his control and finally call it quits as a pitcher, only to come back as one of the top hitters in the St. Louis organization. And it was the New York Daily News that revealed he received shipments of HGH (he admitted using it as a therapeutic treatment) not the Mitchell Report.
- talonstriker, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I'll feel good if the Nats manage to win 72 games.
- Sozzi, on 04/18/2008, -6/+1sports? HA!
- rhoffer21, on 04/18/2008, -2/+0Where is Cleet Thomas? WTF
- delic, on 04/18/2008, -4/+1So only white guys do things in baseball to feel good about......
- bunk, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1Ankiel=The Natural
- jankind, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Feels good when the Phillies win. : )
