As a Twins fan growing up, this game meant the world to me.
"Minnesota's Jack Morris and the Braves' John Smoltz, Mike Stanton and Alejandro Peña locked up in a scoreless duel. The Twins' Gene Larkin singled home Dan Gladden with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the 10th to give Minnesota its second World Series title in five seasons." Friggen INTENSE! - NeoCortex, on 05/30/2008, -1/+6Instead of the 2007 ALCS, I would have gone with the 2004 ALCS game 7.
- The2ndAct, on 05/30/2008, -1/+6maybe your username being "Testies." Cause if you don't like Baseball you obviously don't have them.
- BigW, on 05/30/2008, -0/+41991 game 7 in there..... dugg!!
- ScaredOfTheMan, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Picture 3/14, isn't that Rudy Gulliani in the background (with the baseball cap on)?
- BigPapi, on 05/30/2008, -1/+4There was nothing better than watching Johnny Damon hit a grand slam in the early innings and then seeing the bloated Yankees fans gaze in silence, disbelief and horror in their own stadium for the rest of the game. Payback at its finest.
- Number23, on 05/30/2008, -4/+7Not a game 7, but game 4 and the “bloody sock game” 6 of the 2004 ALCS were about as good as sports get.
YANKEES SUCK! - davewashere, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3I was rummaging through my closet a few years ago when I came across an unlabeled VHS tape. I popped it in the VCR and it turned out to be that game in its entirety. That was a legendary performance from Morris, and there wouldn't be another 10 inning complete game shutout in MLB for over a decade (I think Roy Halladay pitched one in 2003 or 2004).
- kidathinnes, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3I don't understand trolls who go into a baseball article when they don't like baseball to begin with. Just to let us know you don't like it right? Dugg down.
- BigW, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Best... Game.... Ever!!!
- bunk, on 05/30/2008, -0/+3Yadi! Yadi! Yadi!
- The2ndAct, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2"Big ones?" You might want to have that looked at. I hope the Canadian/Hockey cold brings down the swelling =)
- D3ADBOLT, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2There are Marlins fans?
- deeboe, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2That still amazes me today. The pitch count has ruined that from ever happening again.
- anthra22, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2No Strategy? are you serious? I would say baseball requires the most strategy of probably any sport. I mean in the majors before every batter they reposition the fielders according to where they believe the hitter will hit the ball. They also reposition them based on the situation, try for a double play, guard the lines, play in to stop a run from scoring. They bring in pitchers based on the batters history and whether the batter is right or left handed. The catcher will call for pitches that he believes the batter will not be expecting in locations that he believes the batter will not be expecting. The batter in turn tries to predict what pitch he will get and where it will be. They have to figure out ways to manufacture a run, whether it be to bunt, hit and run, steal, or just let the batter hit away.
And as for it not being fun, how is a game where absolutely everything can change in one swing not fun? - paganhobbit, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2The cooler thing to me is that there almost certainly won't be another 10 inning complete game shutout thrown in the world series.
best game I've seen - Miamisun, on 05/30/2008, -3/+5As a Marlins fan i have to say that 11th inning walk off hit win in 97 was simply awesome!
- graemee, on 05/30/2008, -1/+31993 - Toronto vs Philadelphia world series, Game 6 - Joe Carter's HR with 2 out the bottom of the ninth and runners on the bases, He goes 2-2 and then takes it over the fence on Mitch Williams. The baseball dream, Casey did not strike out.
- oaktree, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2nope, wrong...ask any Clevelander.
- serif69, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2Yes, that's his box. He shows up in a lot of pictures of the Yankees from his stint as mayor.
- oaktree, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2I would have to disagree with it's awesomeness...then again, I'm from Cleveland.....
- bannus, on 05/30/2008, -1/+3You are a real comedian
- 9bpm9, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2I think the 1926 World Series one needs to be changed.
Grover Cleveland Alexander has just pitched a complete game the day before, possibly drunk from partying that night, the Yankees have the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th with two outs, Alexander comes in and replaces Haines and strikes out Tony Lazzeri to end the innings and then finishes the game. While Ruth stupidly stealing second goes along with that game, what Alexander did was much more amazing. - jocknerd, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2How's the quality? I would love to get a copy of it.
- Miamisun, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Yeah i am sorry for your loss.
- wezman2, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1The Red Sox haven't been to enough series to have them win that much. The Yankees, however...
(yes yes, i see that they are listed as the loser in many of them) - paganhobbit, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1The 2003 ALCS game 7 was a much better and exciting game than the 2004 ALCS game 7. It had a comeback, extra innings, and the most unlikely of heroes.
2004 was one sided from the start and pretty boring I thought. - mybbq, on 05/30/2008, -3/+414 ***** pages.......
- batista86, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2Best one in this list has to be 1997 Marlins.....I was at the stadium that night, never seen anything like it.
- kidathinnes, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1hahahah hockey! Only the least popular sport of all popular sports. Yeah thats going well. If it wern't for you canucks, there would be no NHL because nobody else CARES!!!
- kjk437, on 05/30/2008, -2/+32006 NLCS, best game I've ever seen, hands down.
- rudsud, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1No strategy? It may look like a guy trying to throw a ball past another, but I can assure you there is much preparation that goes in before games. Baseball is all about statistics.
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Dugg for the 1924 photo..
damn - serif69, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Man, that was emo. And I was just typing stream of consciousness...
- thegoldenavatar, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Being a a lifelong Braves fan, and only eight years old at the time, that series was heartbreaking. We had a chance to close it out in game six, but Kirby Puckett hit that walk-off homerun, and the instant Larkin made contact in game seven I nearly burst into tears.
That said, I remember the great win in '92 when Sid Bream, the slowest baseball player ever, probably, came sliding into home to beat the Pirates. I was overjoyed. Of course, then we lost to the Blue Jays in the World Series thanks to a boneheaded baserunning mistake by Lonnie Smith, who, coincidentally, hit a homerun that I caught earlier that season.
Then going up 2-0 in '96 only to lose four in a row to the Yanks. Then in '99 being swept by the Yanks. Being a Braves fan was great, but full of a lot of disappointment and near misses. At least we won in '95. I'll always remember that season and where I was when Justice hit that homerun and Grissom caught that final fly ball. - graemee, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1True, but that's only because TO won.
- Freedom4Tibet, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1Wow, so emo.
- lejake, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1It meant a lot back then (as an 11 year-old Twins fan), but I've actually appreciated it more over the years since I know how unreal it is to throw a 10-inning shutout. In game 7 of the World Series...if it hadn't happened already, I'd say it was impossible.
- keimel, on 05/30/2008, -1/+2agreed that 2004 ALCS should be in the list, just for the fact that there _WAS_ a game 7. Being behind 3-0 in the series and sweeping out the Yankees assumed sweep was just wonderful. If you're gonna break a curse, that was the way to do it.
But on just the drama of the actual game 7, 2007 beats the 2004 ALCS. Still, a good time to be a Red Sox fan. - howdareyou, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1That wasn't a 7th game.
- scotishstriker, on 05/30/2008, -2/+2No, but it's only good if you go to an actual game. not watch it on tv
- xevidentx, on 05/30/2008, -3/+3lame, yankees circle jerk
- tolgafiratoglu, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1I really wonder how people in USA like this game. Football (you say soccer) is ok, basketball is ok, but what's the complexity with this game? No strategy, no fun. What do you find in this game?
Further: Cricket. It's impossible for someone to love that game. But there're billion fans. Interesting :) - dinobot, on 05/31/2008, -1/+1I think those two games were prolly the two best Game 7 in recent ALCS history.
Go Sawx~ - Nephersir7, on 06/01/2008, -1/+1Buried for being related to baseball
- bunk, on 05/30/2008, -3/+3Red Sox = Yankees
