Called it xD- NgrHader, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Go Red Sox, they have all the Japanese advertising they'll ever need
- EBFoxbat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Oh thank God! I was so worried that the Yankees didn't have enough money.
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -11/+12Anyone else find it offensive that they call themselves "The People's Republic of China"?
- Analogic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6who's "they"? And this is a sports article.
- wonderchemist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I'm pretty sure they call themselves 中華人民共和國
- bob12321, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I got bored in Google translate and moved the characters around and i this this is a bit more fitting
人共和華中國民 = Republicans were China, China and China
- bob12321, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I got bored in Google translate and moved the characters around and i this this is a bit more fitting
- puddpunk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5***** off! We're the Chinese People's Republic!
(Apologies to the People's Front of Judea)- Herald42, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Splitter.
- maddh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4How about North Korea "Democratic People's Republic of Korea"? only one of those 4 words are correct (excluding 'of').
- cphelps, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Anyone find it offensive that so many people find so many stupid ***** things offensive? Oh wait....
- yankeesfan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I see no problem here.
- PolarPyro, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1The The Chinatown Chin- nvm.....
- dannyboy3020, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6At first, I guessed it was the Mariners.
- Rageous, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2That would've been a logical guess for the Japanese.
- Ighuc, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16A sponsorship between two Evil Empire's..., it's a match made in hell.
- mastercheif, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4The Yanks also have some Japanese advertisements in the stadium.
- jacesKINGS, on 10/11/2007, -12/+2A Look Into The Future: The Chinese will slowly take over the American economy. And Sony is the headquarters for their operations.
This is only the beginning.- JPDota, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10SONY is a Japanese company...
- Shak, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1If that's so, then I feel pretty good about our economy based purely on how Sony's been doing ever since the BMG root kits and the now flunk PS3 :)
- schpadoinkleday, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9the yankees are the first mlb team to sign a chinese ball player (last week i think), so doesn't this make sense? stop it with the evil empire already.
- Eldorian, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9From the description I had figured the "Reds" would be more fitting.
- CoolJammer00, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5why is it shocking that a Chinese sponsor wants to sponsor a very well known team, however poorly they are playing, with a star Chinese pitcher?
more like "take an educated, well informed guess with all logic and clues pointing at this"- schpadoinkleday, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3who's they're chinese pitcher? did china invade taiwan? chien-ming wang is taiwanese.
- AndrewNorris, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3They'll call them the Chankees.
- schpadoinkleday, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2clever. not really
- cosequin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2support evil, lol
- Codfish5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3schpadoinkleday is right. without getting into the messy politics, chien-ming wang is Taiwanese. Unless of course, CoolJammer00 was referring to another Chinese pitcher on the team...I don't follow baseball that much.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2RTFA people:
"Yili will receive prominent branding visibility on July 6 when the Yankees introduce left handed pitcher Kai Liu and catcher Zhenwang Zhang, who became the first players from the People's Republic of China to sign with a Major League club..."
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2RTFA people:
- shagg187, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0lolzz...
Yankees was the first thing that came to my head... :P - PMAJ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The Yanks just signed a pitcher from mainland china last week. That is the pitcher they are talking about. Second the reason that china prob. picked the yanks was because the reason why all of you guessed the Yankees(except the for those with the evil empire shtick) , they are the biggest club(not just with salary) in value(est. at over $1B) as well as market and they are one of the most recognized names in sports history.
- jturley0316, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Ok, Japanese advertisers are different. Japan is an ally, economically, and militarily. I suppose if you don't think that we are doing enough to empower the Chinese economy, then you might not have a problem with this. My biggest problem is with all the "Capitalist" businessmen who attempt to profit by doing business with the Chinese, who not only employ what is essentially slave labor but also serve an ideology (communism) which is diametrically opposed to their own. I guess I can add the owner of the New York Yankees to the list of businessmen who are serving up the downfall of our economy. And this from the City that gave us Rudy Giuliani, why am I not surprised?
- jrconn00, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Well aside from the obvious the Yankees pitcher Chien Ming Wang is Taiwanese which is often considered a part of China and the do speak Chinese. So that may have something to do with it. The Yankees have Japanese sponsorships because of Matsui not because they are baseballs evil overlords
- googleabcd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I need to mention one thing, 99.9% Chinese are not interested in baseball at all so YILI is most likely just trying to promote its brand in US
