- itc518, on 07/18/2009, -0/+15He already has one foot in the Baseball HoF.
- TriplePlay2425, on 07/18/2009, -0/+8I love Maddux. I miss him. One of the greats. Definitely Hall of Fame material if there ever was.
- mrshickadance9, on 07/18/2009, -3/+9probably one of the top 3 pitchers of all time.
- slvrbullet87, on 07/18/2009, -2/+7Greatest pitcher of the 90's
- socivitus, on 07/18/2009, -0/+5A true baseball legacy! I'm glad I got to grow up watching Greg and the Braves in their most successful seasons.

Unlike Maddux, Rickey was a complete dick. - makemylink, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3this was the right time to retire..
- tbenathan, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3When the votes are tallied for Greg Maddux to enter the Hall of Fame, you can rest assured that he will enter with LESS than a 100% vote.
You can be sure of this because no player in modern history has entered with a 100% vote.
That includes complete shoo-in players like Rickey Henderson, who only accumulated every record a leadoff hitter could possibly hope to attain (stolen base record by a mile, 3000 hits, runs scored record, walks record). Rickey won two World Series, an MVP (he led the league in OPS in 1990), appeared in 10 All-Star games, won a Gold Glove, three Silver Sluggers, was a superstar at a young age (21 years old), led the league in stolen bases and walks at age 39, and played 25 seasons.
Despite those otherworldly statistics and accomplishments, Rickey Henderson appeared on only 94.8% of the ballots cast for the most recent HoF voting, one of the weakest HoF election classes in eons. Henderson was selected on only 511 of 539 ballots.
Isn't it sad to know that Greg Maddux, he of the 4 consecutive Cy Young Awards, of the 23 great seasons pitched, of 355 wins in the 5 starter rotations, in the steroid era (he's never been accused of doing anything illicit), and of 18 Gold Gloves won't be listed on everyone's ballot when his turn to be voted in is up? - DrunkenSavior, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2Yeah, I'm going to get dugg down in this (apparently) over-zealous pro-Maddux thread....but as amazing as Maddux was, he's not in the top 3 of all time pitchers. Of recent (1990-Present) time? Maybe, it's easily debatable. But of all time? You'd be hard pressed to find a creditable baseball historian to back up that claim.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Cubs made a mistake in originally letting him go to Atlanta...and our management still hasn't learned. Maddux is a class act.
- ratherbeinvegas, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2One of the best pitchers of his era. Just shows how dumb my Cubbies were for letting him go the first time.
- Lbr218, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Thanks, Greg, for some great years!! GO BRAVES! :D
- YodaOfDarkness, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1It was awesome having him and Jeff Kent, two future Hall of Famers, playing for the Dodgers last year. I doubt we'll ever have another one again.
Hell, there were probably three Hall of Famers playing for the Dodgers back then, but one of them doesn't look so likely anymore... - badqat, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1heh...yeah, we Braves fans hated having Maddox, Glavine and Smoltz in the same rotation. It was horrible.
It would have been nice to have won more WS titles...but it was still an epic time to be a Braves fan. - kcroyalsfan, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Great Baseball Career. Plus he gives us one of the best Commercials ever, Chicks Dig the Long Ball. http://backseatfan.com/index.php/2009/07/greg-madd ...
- Roninsan, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1I've heard the story, told by one of the Giles brothers, I think. Behind in the count, he intentionally allowed a home run in preseason play to a player ONLY so the player would expect that sort of pitching from him during the season. It came back to haunt the batter later in the same year, in the playoffs. Maddux is the epitome of finesse pitching.
The guy is a shoe-in, first round hall of famer. I bet he never was accused of using performance enhancing drugs, either.
He's so good, I hate NOT seeing him, even if he destroys my team. I put him in the list with Oswalt, Schilling, Glavine, Clemens, Johnson. - Foot56, on 07/18/2009, -4/+4I would disagree with that.
