- serif69, on 03/18/2009, -1/+13I'll definitely be pulling for him, and hope he makes a full recovery and returns to the game.
As a Yankee fan, I will never forget his heroics in the ALCS in 2003. I was sad to see him go, especially seeing who his replacement is. - Ribby18, on 03/18/2009, -3/+9As a Red Sox fan, I hate you for your friggan home run in 2003 (which probably wouldn't have happened if Giambi didn't cheat and use roids to hit 2 homers to get you back in the game). However, I only wish you ill will on the baseball diamond. Good luck with your surgery; I hope it goes well and you have a full, speedy recovery. Then I hope you suck again! :)
- Coven, on 03/18/2009, -1/+5Bambino, Bucky, Buckner, Boone...
- highpitch83, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4You'd be surprised how quickly you can recover and how common this procedure is. I had a Pulmonary Valve replaced in 2002. Was only in the hospital 5 days and fully "recovered" after 6 weeks. My upgraded heart is actually still "growing in strength" 7 years after the surgery according to my cardiologist...
- commiecat, on 03/18/2009, -2/+6Hopefully the procedure goes well and he's able to return to playing. I honestly couldn't tell you what he's done the last few years, but I'll never forgot that shot he hit off Wakefield in the ALCS a while back.
- Straw, on 03/18/2009, -1/+5Astros'.
- P522, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Wishing him well and a speedy recovery!
- nalguita, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2That's intense. What you doing tomorrow? Oh, having open heart surgery. You?
- timothy53, on 03/18/2009, -3/+5"Aaron F-ing Boone" - i guess only Red Sox fans can mutter that. GO YANKS!
- Morphinity, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Boone was stupid enough to blow out his knee playing basketball. I'd have let him go too.
- Pseudorious, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Thank you. That really bothered me when I read the title.
- cubs0110, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2As a baseball fan, I hope all goes well.
- yanksn6, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2I hope the operation is a success and wish him a speedy recovery.
- BeefEnchilada, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1I had this same surgery 4 years ago. I'm sure hes going to be OK and will be back to playing ball in no time. Godspeed brother.
- brsteve88, on 03/18/2009, -2/+3Yeah, Red Sox fans don't really care anymore.
- aalmeida259, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2Healing that broken heart the Yankees gave him after they traded him in '04, even though his ACLS homer is still their most-used highlight of recent years. Good luck Aaron.
- skeetmuffin, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1dugg for Open Heart Surgery
- kdoig, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Career .264 hitter. There's been thousands upon thousands of other players who hit less than that over their carerer
- socomoddjob, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1he hurt himself in the offseason and didnt play that year...........
- Coven, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2the curse has been broken, obviously not.
- lilmentor3, on 03/18/2009, -1/+1dude get well!
i will NEVER forget your home run!!!
it gives me chills remembering that night! - HomerPimpson4, on 03/18/2009, -2/+2But he chokes in the playoffs.
- Hockey13, on 03/18/2009, -2/+2No, he doesn't. He sometimes plays slightly less amazingly than he normally does, but instead of spewing the BS you hear other fans say, look at his stats:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/rodrial01.shtm ...
Ignoring his Seattle years, in which he played quite well in the playoffs, take a look at these numbers:
2004
ALDS: BAA .421, OBP .476, SLG .737, 1 HR, 2 SB
ALCS: BAA .258, OBP .378, SLG .516, 2 HR, 0 SB <--Still better than almost everyone else on the team
2005
ALDS: BAA .133, OBP .381, SLG .200, 0 HR, 1 SB <--Solid OBP setting other players up for RBI
2006
ALDS: BAA .071, OBP .071, SLG .071, 0 HR, 0 SB
2007
ALDS: BAA .267, OBP .353, SLG .467, 1 HR, 0 SB
Now take a look at Derek Jeter in the same time frame:
2004
ALDS: BAA .316, OBP .350, SLG .526, 1 HR, 1 SB
ALCS: BAA .200, OBP .333, SLG .233, 0 HR, 1 SB <---Not as good as A-Rod "in the clutch"
2005
ALDS: BAA .333, OBP .364, SLG .619, 2 HR, 1 SB
2006
ALDS: BAA .500, OBP .529, SLG .938, 1 HR, 0 SB
2007
ALDS: BAA .176, OBP .176, SLG .176, 0 HR, 0 SB
These numbers are barely better than A-Rod's, and two of the series were absolutely dismal, just like with A-Rod. Beyond all of this, let's try to remember that A-Rod did quite well in the playoffs in Seattle and that the sample size of these supposed "playoff chokes" are insanely small. You're saying that the guy sucks based on 5 games he played one year in which he won the MVP (2005) and 4 games he played another year in which he hit slightly off his regular pace (2006).
The guy is an animal. End of story. - hoisonsauce, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0His wife is pretty attractive. Just thought I'd put that out there. You know...heart surgery and...yeah...
- socomoddjob, on 03/18/2009, -2/+1The excitement as a yankee fan when he hit hit that homer vs wake was tremendous. Shame he had to go get hurt playing basketball during the offseason and we had to bring this clown into town........
- jonnyeuchre, on 03/18/2009, -2/+1
I can't say off the top of my head, but he might have the worst batting average of any active player over a certain number of at bats. It's amazing that he finds work. At least he's not on roids like his bonehead brother. - vido33, on 03/19/2009, -1/+0good luck!
- Hockey13, on 03/18/2009, -2/+1Really? You like Boone over A-Rod? Has A-Rod not won enough MVPs for you or something?
Even after coming off of steroids, A-Rod has been just as potent as he was before, and he was insanely powerful prior to that as well. Appreciate the fact that at third base your team has one of the, if not THE, best baseball players of all time. - dannythepan, on 03/19/2009, -2/+0Boone actually did something awesome and productive in the postseason..unlike a rod, who does the exact opposite. probably because he's not getting paid extra to work overtime
a rod is lammee
i'm so happy he will disappear soon like sosa and mac and bonds and palmeiro - ejlhp, on 03/18/2009, -5/+0Man to have open heart surgery=front page?
Not exactly rare news.
