- badqat, on 07/12/2009, -2/+21Selig's decision to end the 2002 game in a "tie" solidified the fact that as far as MLB is concerned, the all-star game is nothing more than extra money.
I've still not come back to baseball full time since the 1994 strike. And I don't know if I ever will. Selig needs to go the way of the dodo and disappear. - vsujohn2, on 07/12/2009, -3/+19And don't make it "count" in the sense that whatever side wins that league gets to have home field in the world series. Thats utterly retarded, you give it to the team with the better record, not the winning side of a pointless mid-season money-grab.
- Blinker1315, on 07/12/2009, -1/+15I sat out the '95 season, giving up my excellent partial season tickets at Yankee Stadium. Came back soon after, still annoyed, but I love baseball, playing and watching. Selig is a joke, of course, and he won't retire easily; for one thing, he makes so much money he won't walk away from it.
- GregFD3S, on 07/13/2009, -2/+14And finally, don't let the ***** fans vote in the players. It's turned into a popularity contest.
- Ajajadude, on 07/13/2009, -1/+11The NBA All-Star game is a joke, just like the NHL and NFL all-star games. Out of those 4 sports, only the MLB AS game has players who actually play the way they'd play a regular season game. No half-assing nothing.
- Richandler, on 07/13/2009, -1/+9They should throw money at the players. You know, hit a home run get $15,000, every 3 strikes outs $20,000, Best play of the game gets $50,000. I think players would put more effort in then.
Or maybe do some real time fan voting for substitutes or even calls. That would be really interesting. - acrodev, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7When has baseball not been about the money? Stop paying players to play and see who shows up.
- jrm125, on 07/12/2009, -8/+15If you want to make it more interesting, drop it altogether and replace it with re-runs of Arrested Development.
- SMELLtheGluv, on 07/12/2009, -1/+6Absolutely right about awarding World Series home field advantage to the winner of the All-Star Game.
The All-Star Game is losing its appeal with the fans. We'd better give it an illogical tie-in with the World Series.
/face - Barackalypse, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3Offering an MLB player $15,000 for a home run is the incentive equivalent to offering the world's fattest man an M&M for climbing a flight of stairs. The average player salary was more than $3 million in 2008 and I expect the All Star players are substantially higher than that.

- WillDearborn, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3I agree he is a joke, but die? Come on, he just needs to retire and pass the torch.
- kingman26, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2The MLB All Star Game doesn't need competitiveness. I don't want my favorite players to get injured for a useless cause. That would be a major disappointment - your team's player injured in the game. Also, What if your team's stud starting pitcher starts the All Star Game and pitches five or six innings, he's spent for the start of the second half.
I think that all they ought to do is name a starting nine for each league, get them together take a few snapshots and then let them enjoy four or five days off. - DudeCantDraw, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2Who the ***** cares who wins an All Star game. Making it "count" was the stupidest decision ever made. It's an exhibition game designed to let the best players have fun and show off. All star games are a side show, not a competition.
I don't give a ***** who wins or if it's competitive. I want to see the biggest stars out there having a blast, swinging for the fences, throwing fake brush-back pitches for comedy effect. If it's a tie...so what?! - WillDearborn, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2@ vsujohn2 I wish I could digg your comment multiple times. Its the most ridiculous thing in sports. Please "Bud", get your head out of your ass, admit this was a stupid mistake and make it so the team with the best record gets home field advantage in the World Series. I've heard the excuses about having to make hotel reservations in advance and all the other *****. How is it that other sports can do this and baseball can't? The 2002 allstar game is a stupid reason to have done this. ITS AN EXHIBITION! Who cares if it ended in a tie.
- holzp, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Charity and the idea would work.
- holzp, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Fins a local minor league or independent league team. It is more enjoyable baseball.
- gkiltz, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1The other problem with that: In the All-Star game, everybody plays.
If you manage it like a typical DH( American League) game, the bench players never get in the game. You would have to find a way to manage it like a National League game, where you actually have pinch hitters, and occasionally even pinch runners.
The only other option to the way it's done now: a Mandatory Play rule similar to the little league world series, where every player has to get at least one at bat, and at least 3 outs in the field. The difference is that the All Star Game would give you 9 innings to do it, instead of 7. - jocknerd, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Its turned into a popularity contest? When was it not? Fans have voted almost always. Back in the 50's fans voted the Cincinnati Reds to start for the NL. The commissioner had to overrule them. Its always been a fans pick.
- jjjjjjjijjjjjjj, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Tell that to Ray Fosse.
- GregFD3S, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1He won't pass the torch until he dies. Do you know how much money he makes?
- DudeCantDraw, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1That's what an All Star game IS. A popularity contest! That's the whole freaking point.
- Spire3660, on 07/13/2009, -2/+1SO let me get this straight, you take all the very best players from all over the league to pussy foot a game with no real competition? What exactly is the point? Oh yeah, money......
- GregFD3S, on 07/13/2009, -7/+3Selig is a joke, I can't wait until he dies.
- Gerakis100, on 07/12/2009, -11/+4All Star game only works in the NBA... it should be dropped in the MLB and NFL
