- CB810, on 07/20/2009, -5/+22Arguably the best baseball player you will ever see...
- readacook, on 07/20/2009, -0/+14After consideration of you carefully-crafted and well-argued rebuttal, I have seen the error of my ways.

-Very Easy - readacook, on 07/20/2009, -2/+15Pujols has been the same size ever since he came into the majors, unlike Sosa and Bonds, who looked like they doubled their weight. Either he came in jacked on steroids, or he's clean. I'm leaning toward the latter.
- ZOMGitsRadimus, on 07/20/2009, -0/+12As a St. Louis Cardinals fan, I have high hopes that he gets the Triple Crown. If he doesn't, oh well; he's still a hell of an athlete.
- tcasey22, on 07/20/2009, -2/+9I really hope he does it. I am a Red Sox fan, and the way he, the Cardinals, and their fans applauded us in 2004 was really amazing.
Albert Pujols is our last hope at a clean player that hits for power and average. - santiago1, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6 I would pitch to neither because I am the Manager.
- SeinfeldQuote, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4dude... if i live for another 50 years i expect to see somebody better. athletes have only been evolving and getting better. i wouldn't be suprised to see someone better. not to mention there HAS BEEN better players than Puljos. he is only the best current player. you can't discount the past and future.
- JoeHague, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Actually he does get hurt- he's been on the DL twice and he has never played a full season/
- brownsound00, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Ludwick has been doing alright this season, and he's started streaking... that's a pretty decent 1-2 punch
- sugarazor, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3"And he never gets hurt. Never."
Being on roids would make him more likely to get hurt, at least more susceptible to muscle/tendon tears. I can't stand Pujols and find him to be incredibly overrated, but you're not exactly providing any evidence that would suggest he's anything but a damn good baseball player. - jba68, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3heh, I'm a ranger fan and Ichiro is more than just a pure hitter. That is what makes him a great player, he has speed, he can field, he hits like a baseball ninja.
I hear that he is a Diva, but began tuning out all aspects of sports in that regard. I only look at games and highlights, so I dont know if the Diva or not.
He was going by Ichiro when he was still in Japan. Ninja only need one name. - davidrools, on 07/20/2009, -5/+8lol...poo holes
- aron1185, on 07/20/2009, -1/+4Albert Pujols leads the Cardinals team in steals right now :)
... And in many games, he alone can outscore the other team - mlvassallo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3It's between him and Ichiro in my opinion as far as pure hitters go.
- wilkinnh, on 07/20/2009, -1/+4closes in? 2nd half just started...call me in 60 games and we'll talk about closing in
- deadasdisco, on 07/20/2009, -2/+4shut the ***** up.
- Scrappy1850, on 07/20/2009, -2/+4every year: allstar, gold glove, 200+ hits. NO EXCEPTIONS. that is an amazing career and he is not slowing down.
- Schralpy, on 07/20/2009, -2/+4Not to mention he already had over 3000 in hits in Japan before he started in MLB.
- drivingalone, on 07/20/2009, -1/+3It'd be awesome, but the average is going to be tough. Hanley isn't just going to roll over and give it to him.
- colinmhayes, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2the length always get them.
- nmhforlife, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2you mean consecutive games with a hit record? pete rose clearly has the most hits in mlb history and should be in the hall of fame.
- dauterive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Exactly brown, Ludwick is back giving Pujols support. Since July 1st he is hitting .404/.458/.712 with an OPS of 1.169 and 4HR + 20 RBI. It's safe to say he is out of his funk.
- mlvassallo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2This dude better be clean.
- cainpitt, on 07/20/2009, -2/+4I dunno, that Belmont Stakes is pretty tough.
- plainOldFool, on 07/20/2009, -1/+3Pujols winning the Triple Crown would be an awesome feat but I think it would be far tougher for someone to top DiMaggio's hits record.
- jba68, on 07/20/2009, -2/+4wow 10... he's a regular demon on the base paths....
- 3tcp, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2There is too much of the season left to be discussing this now. He still has a long ways to go.
- HentaiJeff, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2as soon as? most ppl outside baseball fandom accuse them from the moment they get to the show.
- nmhforlife, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2he didn't cheat *****, he bet money on his team to win. how is that cheating? he never once bet against his team and he never took steroids. as far as i am concerned baseball needs him for than he needs baseball.
- JeffDUpp, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2All the steroid allegations are so off base. Pujols has had the same body type for all his years in the league and you know that he gets tested more than anyone can imagine. It's sad that it has reached the point where players are assumed guilty with no evidence other than the fact that they are good.
- asunesara, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1As an Astros fan, I hate the guy but I respect the hell out of him. The hit off Lidge in the NLCS...it was beautiful...but damn I hate to see him play us.
- rhoonah, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I'm a Sox fan too and I'm with you 100%. He's a classy guy.
- ImBaack, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3How can you talk ***** on Ichiro? Look at his numbers you douche. He is going to the Hall of Fame.
- flamesrule, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3If Pujols was on steroids, you would know it. MLB wants to catch their highest profile stars to show that their drug testing is working and that it doesn't play favourites. I can't be easy for Albert though to know he isn't using them and having to answer questions all the time.
- deadasdisco, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2there's a lot of really good players on the cardinals.
- 3tcp, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1spammer?
- thegreenspanput, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3I would put up $5 for every $1 betting that he has done steroids.
- HentaiJeff, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2Clean player would be Josh Hamilton, mark my words. and yes I get the irony/agruement but he never did roids.
- volcompimp, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I hear he's #2 on the list ;-p
- Rethcir, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Seriously. I remember when Derek Lee was getting this kind of talk a couple years ago.
- ImBaack, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I wonder if his name is on that list that is still floating around out there of players who have tested positive. Also, for all of you guys saying he has been the same size since he came into the league so he must not use steroids I would like to show you Exhibit A: Alex Rodriguez
- Scrappy1850, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Death Incarnate?
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1TWSS
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1Yeah wtf is this "closing in" *****?
- Hockey13, on 07/21/2009, -1/+2http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/suzuki ...
Ichiro can hit for average, but he has very little power and he barely walks. This results in his career .811 OPS, which is pretty good, but not exactly HoF material, and nowhere close to the numbers Pujols puts up. Remember, kids, batting average is almost an entirely meaningless statistic, even if your favorite player excels in it. Maybe you could make an argument for him getting in by merit of his fielding, his pretty good hitting, and his speed, but as a right fielder, fielding is really not something that distinguishes him from the crowd and his speed probably only tacks on about 50 points in OPS.
Again...pretty good, but not close to someone like Pujols or Mauer. - LordRedSnake, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1You're nuts. They don't want to catch their highest profile players. That has much more of a negative backlash than no positive tests at all. Manny and A-Rod revelations were big black eyes for the sport because it casts doubt on everyone else playing at their level.
- aron1185, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Proof?
- JoeHague, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1So if you were a an MLB manager- and there is a guy on second would you pitch to Pujols or would you pitch to Ludwick?
- cainpitt, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Damn, I was thinking the exact same thing.
