- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -6/+51When did the Onion start covering factual news?
- t3hmyth, on 07/17/2008, -12/+26A-Rod is so arrogant that I wouldn't be surprised if he really does do that.
- Gforce20, on 07/18/2008, -3/+12I was about to ask myself "Why would I care about this?", and then I noticed it was an Onion article. >_>
Actually, come to think of it, I still don't care. - StuTheMeatMan, on 07/18/2008, -0/+8Flooded?
- tolbs, on 07/18/2008, -1/+9ARod is not overrated by any means. Youngest to 500 home runs, .306 batting average, great Defense (2 gold gloves), and 3 MVPs.
His only knock is that he has 0 rings. He's like the baseball equivalent of Dan Marino. If he hits 800 homeruns and wins one or more championships I can't see how anyone could argue that he isn't among the best players of this generation, if not ever.
And I HATE the Yankees. - inactive, on 07/18/2008, -10/+16A-Rod = best player in baseball.
- limewood, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6I'm willing to bet a lot of sports athletes really do check. I'm not gonna lie, I know I would if I had a rookie card.
- soupdawg30, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Sure it sounds arrogant but I know I collected baseball cards as a kid and if I were in the MLB I would be doing the same damn thing.
- adikt, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6blahblahbla then i saw the onion
- Hockey13, on 07/18/2008, -2/+7No, A-Rod is more or less the best player in baseball. It's pretty obvious from the buries that nobody here wants to hear this, but you need to stop reading the tabloids and starting looking at the stats:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/rodrial01.shtm ...
Don't just look at the .389 career OBP, the 148 career OPS+, the 81% career stolen base percentage, the .973 career fielding percentage (.977 at short, .957 at 3b), the 537 career home runs (44 HRs per 162 games) but also look at how long it's taken him to do all this: 15 seasons. Not even 2,000 games.
Maybe he's not the best player of all time, though he might break Bonds' home run record, but give the guy some credit. Just because you don't like his personal life doesn't mean he's bad at baseball. What Yankees teammates have complained about A-Rod?
Bury me, Yankee-haters.
/Mets fan - gabe37, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Wish I had a baseball card worth that much =/
- iPirate, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5Arrogant? He's always been pretty damn humble.
- ShuttleDisaster, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Lame that it's in the friggen URL.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2blow me mets fan. Buries have absolutely no connection to reality. Just say something negative about apple or obama to test it. The only stat that matters is his performance in the playoffs. Even with all of his money, mr. gayrod couldn't buy a hit when it matters. The guy chokes worse than greg norman.
- Linkin4, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I don't get where you got arrogant from, probably Red Sox nation rearing it's ugly, jealous head
- c0baltfish, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Ya one of the pipes burst and the plumber is backed up until Sunday.
- sarge, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2and I was thinking, "geez thats odd... Why is A-Rod interested in Josh Beckett's rookie card?" duh
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2So thats a fancy way of saying you're a spammer.
- MVPhurricane, on 07/18/2008, -3/+5No, it's not.
- ShuttleDisaster, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Nah, just a disclaimer that reads "digglet08 is an effing idiot."
- chasenyc, on 07/18/2008, -2/+3Yankees third basement? I was unaware one existed and it was named Alex Rodriguez
- kingp, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Digg needs an Onion section so the articles aren't confused with REAL news.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1asterisk for steroids just like bonds and and big mac.
- Duositex, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1I. Hate. The. Onion.
- blurrie, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1so would i.
- duczduczducz, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2i believe in God because i prayed to Him that this was an onion link
- Jeffler, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Yes, but that's because time exists, not because its becoming stale, which it isn't.
- alanwarp, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Arrogant == Announcing you are opt'ing out of your contract during game 4 of the world series.
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/21495045/ - Fludd777, on 07/18/2008, -6/+6what happened to the yankees first and second basement?
- Worldchrisis, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2Honestly, this could be true.
- DoThaDew, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0My fault, i believe i responded to the wrong post!
- xcheats, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2Damn it. Didn't even know it was the Onion until I read the Digg comments.
- russdogg, on 07/18/2008, -3/+3What a rod.
- Abstractpie, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1Alex Rodriguez. Third baseman for the New York Yankees. Although I can see how you got him mixed up with an entertainer with all the Madonna stuff going on.
- dannythepan, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0a rod is lame
although i like how he suddenly helps the yankees loose in october - belgar, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1Can we have an [ONION] tag so that we who use the RSS feed don't have to read this shiat? Garg, I hate the Onion.
- Andy021, on 07/19/2008, -0/+0Is that July date on the article correct? Does anyone also get the part about him being "with his wife and children"? Funny that she filed for divorce early last week.
- elveis, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1Where's the part where I called him overated? I'm disagreeing with the fact that he's the "best player in baseball." If you read my response very carefully and slowly (go ahead sound the words out loud if it helps) you'll see that I actually said he was a good player during the regular season. The "best" players however, play at a high level throughout the playoffs. There are lots of outstanding players in both leagues, he's not the best one. Or did you mean to reply to pantone286?
- jktress, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Gizmodo, take note.
- digglet08, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Nah, I'm just saying theres a lot of misleading stuff
- Crossmenjeff, on 07/18/2008, -3/+2i was wondering why he bought an autographed photo of himself... then i saw the onion.
- DoThaDew, on 07/18/2008, -2/+1You're a moron for one. A-Rod is in no way shape or form an overrated ball player. This is coming from someone who absolutely hates the yankees. But I have no problem at all admitting when a player is good.
At the rate he's going he'll not only break bonds "record" but shatter it, and without the help of any artificial substances. - Blahofstars, on 07/18/2008, -4/+3People should really denote if it's from the onion. Lame.
- soupdawg30, on 07/18/2008, -5/+4Actually yes, yes it is.
- elveis, on 07/18/2008, -3/+1Not really. He's a only good player from April through September. Until he helps his team win in the playoffs he might as well be known as Mr. Choketober.
- omgstfu, on 07/18/2008, -2/+0Amazing... how incredibly unfunny.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -5/+1I dunno, A...Rod is gay enough on it's own, no need to add the G.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -5/+1You have to be politically correct. It is *****-rod.
