- dtpollitt, on 08/04/2008, -1/+24The Pierzynski trade for Nathan, Boof, and Liriano is the worst of these, without a doubt. And AJ is an ***** to boot.

"Rihanna says:
I’m a big Yankees fan, coz they are really professional baseball team! I used to attend their games just to see their professional plays. They have captivated millions of fans. And they are also the best-selling American team even their"
WTF?! - billso, on 08/04/2008, -1/+14It's always fun to watch people practice their English on the Web.
- AsgardsAvenger, on 08/04/2008, -0/+10Or, if you're a Twins fan, the best of these!
- Miamisun, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8Where is Florida trading Derek Lee for Hee Sop Choi?
- charlie55, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8beltran went to the mets as a free agent, not a trade, *****.
- bball1o3, on 08/04/2008, -0/+7The Mets could really use Kazmir right about now...
- mv10, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6You want me to take your list seriously and you call him Curt Shilling?
- ryogahibiki, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5Sabean needed to be fired years ago.
- BrettSchu, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4Ah the trade for Sizemore and Lee. Best. Trade. Ever... for a Tribe fan.
- pennyfan87, on 08/05/2008, -3/+6Just about covers the intelligence of the average Yankee fan...
- failedpimp, on 08/05/2008, -1/+4The Pirates seem to be on this list a few times. I think you can add the Jason Bay deal to this list in a few years. He'll be an all star for the Sox, Manny will be Manny, and in 3-4 years the Pirates willl again trade the one player they got out of this deal that made it to the big leagues.
- RicardoWilliams, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3Jose for Esteban... sigh
- charlie55, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3steve phillips wasnt the GM for the kazmir trade.
- FreddieD, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3The worst trade in recent times isn't even on this list, but it will be in a few years. This kills me too because I'm a die hard Cardinals fan.
Oakland A's send Mark Mulder to the St. Louis Cardinals for Dan Haren, Kiko Calero, and Daric Barton.
At the time, the Cardinals just got swept in the World Series to the Red Sox and were looking to sacrifice a little of their future to get a big bang right now and put them over the top, especially when the Cardinals had nobody behind Chris Carpenter and the Red Sox were starting either all-stars or future hall-of-famers almost every damn game of the Series. Sure, Mulder was rocking an ERA over 6 for the second half of the 2004 season, but at the time the Cardinal brass figured it was worth the risk.
What ended up happening? Dan Haren went on to start for the AL all stars last year, and appears to be a perennial all star for several years to come. Kiko Calero was a capable middle reliever but nothing more than a mere token in the trade. Daric Barton (only 19 years old at the time) was a blue chip prospect, and people who only casually follow baseball will know his name for quite a long time. Haren was traded to the Diamondbacks this year for a boatload of top prospects, so this trade alone has set the A's up with a reasonably competitive (and dirt cheap) team for the next decade.
As for Mulder? His arm has fallen apart like a tinker toy and at the time of this writing, the Cardinals medical staff has absolutely no idea what is wrong. He goes on the DL by merely picking up luggage at the airport, and I'm not joking. Right now he is a mere shell of the dominating starter in the "Big Three" that helped Oakland win so many games in the first half of this decade, and there is a very good chance that his career is now over. - joltcola, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2better than millwood
- FreshHaikus, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2What are you talking about?
The Red Sox traded Manny and two decent young prospects (not great, but decent and young) for Jason Bay. That is a hell of a lot for Bay, especially since he is a downgrade from Manny. There is no way that they would WANT to make this trade if not for the off the field issues.
Pirates got some good young players (especially LaRouche) and that is what they need if they want to rebuild. They are still a few years away from winning and by that point Bay would be gone to free agency anyway, might as well turn him into several young, good players. - hyrate, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2That wasn't this decade...or the one before it. 1988.
- nobleexperiment, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2My favorite trade that should be on the list is the San Diego Padres acquiring Adrian Gonzalez, Chris Young and Terrmel Sledge from the Texas Rangers for Adam Eaton and Akinori Osuka. Aki worked as the Rangers' closer for one year but the Pads went to the postseason after the trade.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2...no ***** Sherlock.....I am a ***** season ticket holder for the Astros.........see you in the Crawford boxes
- dsully215, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2And from all indications... Sherrill is flat out nasty
- Number23, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Fag.
- dsully215, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Shocker! My Phils top the list. We'll I'm actually used to their players leaving and subsequently succeeding, most recently Kyle Lohse and Placido Polanco.
- charlie55, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2he is 12-5 this season. and the article doesn't even mention he plays for texas.
- gnomeh, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Also from philly....
I was like: "LOL, of course we're not on the list once, but twice!" - Punk27, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1The Rays could use him too....
- Spoomeister, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1He is, he is..... *cries*
- NateTheGreat7, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1to be fair, joke Nathan struggled a lot while a giant, and only began to develop into a fantastic closer later on with the twins.
but god do i hate A.J - elcoqui121, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Yea, I was gonna say where is the Heathcliff Slocumb for Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek trade also by Seattle but that was also 97.
- btraxx, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Kazmir by far. Kid is going to have a closet full of Cy Young's when he retires.
- FreshHaikus, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Common misconception, he was gone already for Duquette. "Anyone with baseball knowledge" lol you might want to be careful with statements like that if you don't know what you are talking about.
He is an idiot though, as we are all reminded all the time from his "analysis" on ESPN, I think that is why so many people assume he was behind this trade. - dallen, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1He's pitching well but still having trouble staying healthy.
- Number23, on 08/05/2008, -1/+2Ok so it happened 17 years ago, but Glenn Davis for Steve Finley, Pete Harnisch, and Curt Schilling is among the worst in MLB history.
Poor Baltimore. - wuvamber, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Andruw Jones to the Dodgers is surprisingly absent.
- dslartoo, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1This one would be a lot more interesting if they hadn't limited it to the last decade. There've been a lot of other trades that are more lopsided or horrifying.
- Spoomeister, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Give it another year, and Bedard to the Mariners for Adam Jones, George Sherill, Chris Tillman, Kam Mickolio and Tony Butler to the Orioles. I mean damn. Even if Bedard was healthy, and effective, and didn't have a little bell that went "ding" over his head when he reached 100 pitches... no player is worth a potential all-star outfielder, an all-star reliever, and 3 prospects.
- almostnormal, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1I'm kind of surprised Heathcliff Slokum for Jason Veriteck and Derek Lowe isn't on there.
- abird, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Schilling*
- disraeligears54, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1That's why its called America's pass time...but really MLB is more exciting than the NBA and NHL combined, and just because guys aren't getting pwn'd left and right doesn't make it uninteresting...I'd take a perfect game over a high scoring NFL game any day
- disraeligears54, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Too bad it doesn't seem to be doing them any good...
- johnnyari, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1You beat me to it. The Red Sox got their captain and a pitcher who almost won a Cy Young. Plus both of them contributed hugely to the world series in 2004.
- bullnation, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1too bad Shapiro and Wedge blew it by giving up on Phillips
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1Sabean is atrocious.
- shizer, on 08/04/2008, -4/+4They forgot the Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps trade on this... Bigtime winnage for Seattle.
- readacook, on 08/05/2008, -0/+0God, I hope you're right. I know Manny is a pain, but all he does is put up at least .300, 30 homers and 100 RBIs a season.
They knew when to ditch Nomar, so hopefully this'll work out. - charlie55, on 08/05/2008, -1/+1padilla is pitching really well for texas right now. this writer has no ***** clue.
- spaceshipsix, on 08/05/2008, -0/+0Manny will continue to hit until he retires but his declining speed, wretched defense and deteriorating view of what it means to be part of a team will lower his value quickly.
Bay cost the Red Sox a lot but I trust the management in its decision. There are clearly reasons for the trade we don't know about yet.
And the money is a non-issue because they have a printing press inside the green monster. -
