- jserio, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2Yep.. many people don't realize the NPS is responsible for this problem when they would allow bears to eat from the garbage dumps. Bear lockers are there for a reason. People who don't use them not only put their car/family in danger but also the bear since repeat offenders are often put down.

- jserio, on 10/25/2009, -0/+1When I thru-hiked the John Muir Trail in 2003 the bear lockers used a clip lock. Is this what yo urefer to or is this a new design? Without imposable thumbs - which our Ursus friends lack, it is next to impossible to use. Same thing for most bear canisters. I encountered no bears during my 20-day trek and even if I did, they would most likely see my canister, maybe toss it around for a few minutes, and move on to easier pickings.
