- pingpants, on 06/27/2009, -3/+30That would be pretty frustrating. Buy a Chrylser to try to help an American company through a rough period, end up with a lemon, file a claim to have your deficient vehicle replaced, and then discover your claim is tied up in Bankruptcy court for the duration of time.
- SexyGeekGirl, on 06/27/2009, -3/+24when life hands you lemons ask for a bottle of tequila and salt!
- jaybudzik, on 06/27/2009, -2/+20GM/Chrysler were on their way out for years. It seems irresponsible that they didn't plan for this, especially when the consumers who did 'keep the faith' and bought a Chrysler were helping to slow their demise. It's a slap in the face, IMO.
- yesbeegee, on 06/27/2009, -3/+20On the bright side, there won't be any frivolous lawsuits and we will have far fewer lawyers chasing these cases ...
- shupy, on 06/27/2009, -2/+18This has nothing to do with Obama.
Chrysler made crap cars. They made crap cars before going bankrupt. I know because I was one of the people that had complaints against for the piece of crap they sold me. They didn't do anything for consumers long before they had to file bankruptcy and if they didn't go into bankruptcy they still wouldn't have done anything for consumers. - gluesniffined, on 06/28/2009, -0/+14It's a total shame. Chrysler could have leveraged themselves into being the "Apple" of auto manufacturers if they had only taken some lessons from Chrysler of old.
Way back in the days Chrysler innovated in the market rather than just cranking out the same crap as everyone else. They had cool engines (Hemi anyone, Six-Pack), cool colors (Panther Pink, Sublime, Top Banana, Plum Crazy, Vitamin C) and cool 'Package' cars (Hemicuda, Superbird, Challenger T/A). Hell, even in the 80's they innovated with such nifty package cars as the Omni GLHS/Charger GLHS. This was in a time where the other manufacturers offered you such awesome options as the same old warmed over engine in a cookie cutter body style that came in your choice of dark forest/puke green or baby ***** brown.
Call me biased by the fact that I own an Electric Blue Metallic 1968 Plymouth Road Runner. I can pull up to any of the local car gatherings and see miles of Camaros and Mustangs; it's the old Mopar stuff that is truly unique. - pinkflyingpig, on 06/27/2009, -2/+16Where is the consumer protection agency?
- walker4bc, on 06/27/2009, -1/+14Wow, with GM filing for bankruptcy now too (and other companies likely to follow), this is really bad news for consumers. But the good news is that at least the quality and reliability coming Detroit makes lemons highly unlikely. Or not.
- inactive, on 06/28/2009, -2/+15Who would be stupid enough to buy a Chrysler car in the first place.
- digglakings, on 06/27/2009, -0/+13yeah... a bottle of tequila... lemon... salt ...and a sexy geek girl
- GreenZephyr, on 06/27/2009, -2/+15Part of me understands that this is what a bankruptcy is supposed to do - relieving companies or individuals of debts and/or liabilities that they cannot repay. But in this case these consumers effectively got screwed twice - by have some portion of their tax dollar go into the multi-billion-dollar bailout money that our government gave to Chrysler, and by not getting their refunds for the crappy cars they bought from Chrysler. Talk about being fleeced!
- Barackalypse, on 06/27/2009, -4/+17Once again saved by buying a Honda, not only is it not a lemon, the company isn't bankrupt.
- liebman, on 06/27/2009, -0/+12Forget the shot glasses - she said *bottle*! :-)
- atlasdugged, on 06/27/2009, -2/+13quote by Goethe: "Do you know the land where the lemon-trees flower?"
Is it Detroit? - senorboombino, on 06/27/2009, -1/+10"You can take a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bull's a**, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?"

"Yes I would, except when it seems the butcher in this case is Chrysler!"
- Senor Boombino - yesbeegee, on 06/27/2009, -1/+10and a couple of shot glasses.
- inactive, on 06/28/2009, -3/+12If you bought a ***** product to help out a ***** company, you're a fool. Actually, let me simplify that: if you bought a Chrysler, you're a fool.
- LowHz, on 06/27/2009, -0/+9What are they going to do? Buy the bad cars back themselves?
Chrysler is bankrupt. You cannot get blood from a turnip. - pinkflyingpig, on 06/27/2009, -2/+11I agree. Chrysler had been so sick for so long and made horrible cars (I had one: P.T Cruiser). They don't care about the consumers.
- shupy, on 06/27/2009, -0/+8As someone taken by Chrysler. They didn't refund people even before the bankruptcy. They have a lot of ex customers like me. That gave up after fighting a year. That is why they are in bankruptcy. American car companies didn't just make crappy cars, they screwed consumers.
- Syklopz, on 06/28/2009, -0/+8Settlement check + ckeck bouncing = murder frown
- shupy, on 06/27/2009, -1/+9American car makers were bad news for consumers before bankruptcy. Ever try to get them to fix a lemon?
That is why they are bankrupt. You can only screw people so many times before they quit buying your product. - MeLikeyTacos, on 06/28/2009, -0/+8Remember folks, they went bankrupt for a reason. And now they're being saved by Fiat, which has almost as bad of a reputation.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 06/27/2009, -2/+10The article should be called "Why Buying a Chrysler = Sucks to be you
- motivatedguy, on 06/28/2009, -2/+9Welcome to the world of the exception but not the rule.
- Flagg3, on 06/28/2009, -0/+6This may surprise you, but many of Chrysler's assets conveniently happen to be brand new cars.
And you also don't seem to understand that Chrysler is still building cars as well as honoring existing warranties. It's just that Chrysler does not want to honor the lemon law because they apparantly don't have to, it's not that they don't have the funds or the ability to do it. - vault, on 06/28/2009, -0/+6The Big 3 turned off an entire generation from American cars. It'll be a loooong time before any new quality/reliability will make a dent in Japan or Germany's market share.
- archivedigger, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6That too.
- rhicks, on 06/28/2009, -0/+6I wonder how many outstanding complaints there are and how many they anticipate while under bankruptcy protection. That, of course, assumes they have some idea how long they plan on being in bankruptcy.
- FauOz, on 06/27/2009, -1/+7Sell it and move on. Your metal health will thank you. Besides some great deals out there.
- pingpants, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5A gentleman and scholar, nevertheless.
- Pinkertinkle, on 06/28/2009, -1/+5Who would be stupid enough to support the UAW.
- Encephalon, on 06/28/2009, -1/+5It's not really that they don't care about the consumers. It's more like they literally can't afford to care about the consumers now. But I do agree, they make some pretty horrible base-model cars.
- redfred18t, on 06/28/2009, -0/+4When life hands you lemons, say ***** the lemons and bail
- janjamm, on 06/27/2009, -3/+7I agree with sexygeekgirl. Cabo Wabo please!
- tgc1, on 06/28/2009, -0/+4"Excuse me? Excuse me, senor? May I speak to you please? I asked for a mai tai, and they brought me a pina colada, and I said no salt, NO salt for the margarita, but it had salt on it, big grains of salt, floating in the glass..."
- jboitnott, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4I always prefer it on the rocks no salt. Something about salt with my alchol just makes me want to puke. Maybe I had a few too many troubles around the age of oh 21.
- herocomplexman, on 06/27/2009, -1/+5Well done story
- zombie210, on 06/28/2009, -0/+3Why not LowHz? They would get more than the car is worth that way.
- Flagg3, on 06/28/2009, -1/+4No one is saying that ALL Chrysler's are lemons, but the simple fact is that every car company will have a small percentage of cars that were not built properly, and have problems that cannot be repaired, which is why lemon laws were created in the first place.
The law simply states that if the car manufacturer cannot repair a problem that they are legally obligated to repair under warranty, then the consumer is entitled to return the car for a refund. - miquonranger031, on 06/28/2009, -2/+5"Chrysler lemon" = redundant
- IKORKYI, on 06/28/2009, -0/+3i have a 2008 jeep wrangler that leaks. one week before the bankruptcy chrysler agreed to buy the vehicle back. magically, the paperwork never went through and they have backed out of the deal. ***** chrysler.
- gemlarin, on 06/28/2009, -1/+3No problems with my Toyota, and I don't see them filing bankruptcy either.
- spyderfreek2k, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2Years ago Crysler put out some nice machines. I'm not sure when it started going downhill, but everyone I know with one has major problems starting around 30k mi. My girlfriends PT Cruiser, while a comfortable car and pleasant to drive, burns ~1-2qt of oil every thousand miles. Bad valve seals is what we were told by the dealer and that it was "normal" and no service was required. On top of that, the car is a dog it is slow as molasses. The frequency that things go wrong with the car blows me away, considering it has been very well maintained. This week power stearing pump, next week suspension bushings. It is always something.
On the other hand, a buddy of mine has a mid 60's New Yorker. He drives it everyday and beats the hell out of it. SOOOOO much power, but knowing him he put some MOPAR beast in it. - inactive, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2Um, they just aren't making money. They still have plenty of assets.
- MacMan88, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2My first car was my dad's old Toyota Camry, made in 1989.
20 years later and with 230k miles, it still runs fine. - SaltilloPunk, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2It's not that Chrysler doesn't care about the customers. The company just doesn't have the manpower to tackle all the issues while developing the new projects. When compared to the other automotive companies, Chrysler is woefully understaffed. As a result the customers with problems don't get the resolutions they seek.
- FreddieD, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2"You can get a good look at a T-bone steak by sticking your head up a butcher's ass..."
