- kd420, on 02/10/2009, -0/+21Dugg because it's not "GreenMotion". I hate when companies just tag green in there to make it seem eco-friendly.
Also, FTA: "the Touareg V6 TSI Hybrid can be driven by just the electric motor. In this case, no emissions are generated." This would be great for those short trips to the store etc. Are they the first company to do this, or are there other models around that have this as well? - jerryjamesstone, on 02/10/2009, -0/+16diesel hybrid, please!
- AngelBunny, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10let me guess: none of these vehicles will make it to the US?
- FI5HERMAN, on 02/10/2009, -1/+9It was the Volkswagon that was bought out originally to help the working class afford to own and run a car....... will this be history repeating itself !!!
- FUNKMASTERNICE, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6EU countries have had the BlueMotion branded VWs for quite some time.
- guymandood, on 02/10/2009, -3/+9FukkenGrooven
- StigNordas, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6I believe Blue Diesel is a common term in most of western Europe. Probably won't resonate as well here in the states.
- Ledjar, on 02/10/2009, -2/+7BlueMotion has been around in the UK for a few years now actually.
- immatellyouwhat, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6Shhhhh! or everyone's gonna want one...
- headshot1485, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6My diesel VW Golf already gets over 50 mpg
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -2/+6Gas is still about $6 a gallon in Germany so this makes a lot of sense.
- monkeyrun, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4Passat BlueMotion
Passat BlueTDI
Passat TSI EcoFuel
That looks more like a new "line" not a brand. - extratired, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3that phenomenon is called 'greenwashing' and it pisses of a lot of people.
- Eaststand, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3what amazes me is why this is on digg? VW bluemotion cars have been around for years.
- jerstud56, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Yay VDub!
- terencec, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3OH SNAP, they had this in Europe ages ago, perhaps during the renaissance
- thefox84, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Big fan of V-dub. I'm only allowed to say that because I own one, so shut it the rest of you imposters.
- BoneStamp, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2You realize lithium ion car batteries get ~1000 charges, so after about 3 years of charging it everyday you have to "dispose" of a GIANT battery. These batteries are a huge problem for the environment too my friend. Fuel cells FTW.
It reminds me of when I was a kid. Our culture stopped using paper grocery bags to save trees. Now you go to Whole Foods, and you can't get plastic bags because they clog up landfills... but trees are renewable so they're fine. Ideally, you should a reusable cloth bag... they're the fuel cell of grocery bags. - jeffwmartin, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2I have an 06 Jetta and it's not under warranty. Well, not the original factory warranty. Some people drive more than 12,000 miles per year.
- idesign, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2If it's an 06, that should be under warranty.
- AngelBunny, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2more like a diesel electric car would be ideal kind of like the volt. diesel is not efficient when the engine is cold aka turning the engine on and off a lot like a hybrid. realistically a diesel hybrid wouldn't save much, if any, gas at all. however, if a diesel electric generator was used and a 100% electric vehicle then 100mpg would be easy to reach in the city for a normal vehicle.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3VW In Da House!
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3neeeEEERRRRD RAAAAAGE RAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!
- welshie, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2You don't need 4 wheel drive and a vehicle weighing 2.3 tonnes to do the food shopping (or at least, you don't in most parts of the populated world).
- bpwned, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3That's a myth. The first Autobahn was built and opened in 1932, 1 year before Hitler's rise to power.
- FChicken, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1The Highlander Hybrid from Toyota has an EV button which runs the car entirely off of the electric motor.
- davidbrown2, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Ach - i'll look into importing
- c010rb1indusa, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Hells ya...I love VWs, nothing drives like a German car and VW already makes great cars despite their sales figures. They might have something here though, especially with families in tough economic times who have kids that are starting to drive. These could be big sellers.
- beezn, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1we have worse taxes on diesel fuel than on normal petrol - they are aimed at truckers, thats why they don't have diesel cars in the states.
- beezn, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1he also pioneered the interstate highway system, I don't see anyone boycotting that. of course, ours in the states are much crappier than Germany's.
- rysar, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1I work on the same street as their US headquarters in Virginia, I'm looking forward to seeing them in the parking lot at the shopping center in front of their campus.
I was able to see the CC and the new Audi before they were actually out that way.
The more ambitious part of me would actually like start a blog and take pics of them or something :-P - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4Will you continue to bring up unrelated topics?
I've driven nothing but Volkswagens, and I've not had any major problems. - jeffwmartin, on 02/11/2009, -0/+16th sentence of the article....
"If you’re thinking that BlueMotion isn’t all that new, you’re right. Back in 2006 VDub introduced the Polo BlueMotion, and in 2007 they unveiled a Passat flavored one." - Amazetbm, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1I'm in the U.S....thanks for pouring salt on the wound.
- BoneStamp, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1No major problems... only minor ones?
- cha5e, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1No, the Polo is not here in the US. The smallest VW available here is the Rabbit, which until recently was known as the Golf.
- inactive, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Is any car you've owned perfect? Nope. Go away.
- arplayer2k, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4Waiting for the American Car Freaks who were talking ***** on VW to say something now....
(By talking ***** on VW while supporting GM and Ford, they said enough, but still.) - davidbrown2, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1I have a quick question
Is the polo heading to the states?
I'm hopefully heading over for a few years, I'm kinda torn between importing my own or getting one over there if it'll be out anytime soon - imkidred, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1Ah, no mention of the states getting any of those Euro models or VW bringing this stateside. Who cares how nice the cars are, I won't be able to buy/drive one.
- wilcocola, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1Yeah vdub knows how to skimp
- feliks2, on 02/12/2009, -1/+1More like D-Thinker. Just trying to be nice.
- cha5e, on 02/12/2009, -1/+1We don't have diesel cars in the US? Huh...then what's that that I've been pumping into my car for the past ten years, that's been getting me 46mpg?
- mapls, on 03/08/2009, -0/+0I don't know if the polo is heading to the states, but I really like that car.
Weight Watchers Recipes :
http://www.weightwatchers-recipes.info - plr4ever, on 02/11/2009, -2/+1with the 50 mpg you can get on some VW diesels, it seems like you wouldn't even need one.
- drifter, on 02/11/2009, -4/+3Maybe car companies should also focus more on the combustible engine and on making their current cars more fuel efficient.
Also for VW, maybe they should solve the electrical and computer orientated issues. I have a 06 Passat sitting in my driveway due to the an electrical malfunction and the great thing is it will cost 2k to fix. Yet the ford taurus thats an 01 still runs fine, must be that ***** american build quality. - tbhurst, on 02/11/2009, -6/+3Will the radios and other electrical components continue to have the same VW issues?
