VW has had a 235mpg car since 2002. Sell it already!
ecogeek.org — It isn't really a surprise that this car is extremely fuel efficient. I mean, bobsledders figured out that this design was aerodynamic a long time ago.

- macwisdom, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Hell I'd settle for 175 MPG ...
- bendiggn, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3But I would like to bring home my groceries too.
- TheMachine1, on 05/21/2008, -2/+0The hippies that would buy it grow their own. Plus you need to diet more.
- Bhima, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1If only you could actually read... you'd know there is room for a passenger and your groceries.
- bincoder, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1That looks better than any of the other (priced less than a house) ev/hybrid or whatever cars they have come up with lately. And the fuel mileage is in the OMG! region. I bet it isn't being built because anyone who does and sells it in any number would be sued off the face of the earth by VW.
- JoeRandom, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2The article states the frame is made of magnesium. Do they mean the chassis? Magnesium is a highly flammable metal, it is difficult to ignite when it is a large solid chunk but when it does it burns like thermite. There is no way I would even stand near a car with magnesium parts.
- DeskFlyer, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Magnesium is used extensively on aircraft so I hope you don't fly at all. ;)
- Bhima, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2No one uses pure Magnesium for structural components, it's a non flammable alloy.
- TheMachine1, on 05/21/2008, -1/+0 The fuel tank on the space shuttle uses a lithium alloy that is far more reactive.
- TEHxINTERWEBS, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1That's a ugly ***** car...
- TheMachine1, on 05/21/2008, -1/+0If it weighs a mere 700 pounds it would be criminal to charge more than $7,000. Its just a small car.
- zen4444, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1It might work it in Europe, but in a the US this would be just a speed bump for a Ford F-150, or any other large SUV. I would put the safety of my children ahead of saving some bucks at the pump.
- robertlafla, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Tata Motors has announced a car that sells for $2,500. http://www.scragged.com/articles/why-cant-we-have- ... explains some of the regulatory issues which keep American from buying cheap cars. Our government at work, restricting our choices!
