- itop10, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2We need alternate source of energy. Its the time we stop relying on monopoly of an organization.
- pstroll, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Well you're going to have to wait since there are no viable substitutes for gasoline and diesel.
- Defiant001, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Looking forward to seeing more of the "Digital CMOS" stuff in cars at least
- PeteBeast, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2TTTT :$
- zacbro, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3I'm waiting for a car that runs on Sexynol. I could drive around all day without having to fill up.
- Demos27, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1That technology is far from ready...how about electricity.
- africafreak, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Green energy is the future of our planet...find a "real" solution for all the cars out there and you'll reduce C02 emissions drastically...and "accessorily" become the richest guy on the planet!
The question is: what is the winning formula??? If you have an answer give me a call (or maybe not lol)... - UselessTrivia, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Cellulostic ethanol seems to be a pipe dream. The concept is solid and it works in the laboratory, but it just doesn't seem to pan out for anyone who tries it at the industrial scale. I need to read more about this hybrid race car idea, though. It seems like adding batteries to the car would just be too much weight for what little horsepower you'd recover from braking. Interesting idea...I'd like to see how that works.
- Skishy101, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2Bring back the EV1. That was a highly successful car that proved we could go electric for every day commute. The technology is already there. And its not like the big oil companies will stop making money. People will still need regular cars for long distance trips in the meantime.
- mackan90, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Hydrogen fuel cells.
- dsmx, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1The main problem isn't finding an alternative it's finding someone willing to invest in the new infrastructure to supply people with the new fuel as cheaply as petrol and diesel.
- ThantiK, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1There is quite a bit of R&D going into capacitive technologies which will not only lighten the load of electric cars but also provide a safe method of storing the electricity that won't explode on impact and can be recharged infinitely and at a MUCH MUCH faster speed than conventional batteries. Plugged in cars could also be used to load-balance the systems in case of power outage, etc etc.
If we spent the money we're giving to the car corporations, banks, etc etc on capacitive technologies + infrastructure we could literally be oil-independent within 10 years. - davidg11, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Look, if cars can really get 150mpg with a plug in hybrid, who really cares if we use fossil fuels. Anything that drops my fuel consumption from 15 gallons a week to 4 gallons a week is well worth it. However plugins are going to require a lot of electricity and an electric grid to handle transmitting and distributing all that electricity.
Take a look at stocks like CPTC which trades at .29 a share. They make the most efficient power line transmission/distribution cable in the world. And they make Wind Turbines. This isn't research and development. This is technology here today manufactured in the good ol USA. Roads and Bridges are nice Obama, but if you are serious about american infrastructure and energy, invest in wind and the electric grid for a new type of vehicle: The plug in hybrid.

- pstroll, on 01/03/2009, -1/+0"When did the US government become a bank?"
When it went off the gold standard... - lazybuoy, on 01/03/2009, -1/+0Dugg for Mr. Clean.
