- terencec, on 11/24/2008, -3/+55"twisty road tamers" = Mustang? Are you kidding me? wheres the Elise, Evo, STI?
- ingoldsby, on 11/24/2008, -3/+28Buried for the Mustang being included in a "twisty road tamer" list.
- vilago, on 11/24/2008, -1/+25seriously. a mustang is a drag car. i don't ever remember it having notable handling
- spritom, on 11/24/2008, -1/+22With the 'Stang's continued use of the solid axle rear suspension and heft, it makes a great muscle car with all its HP and a fun sport-type card for the everyman at a great price. But "Twisty" road tamer? puh-leeze!
- LloydBentsen, on 11/24/2008, -2/+15sitting in a ditch after attempting to tame the twisty roads.
- borez, on 11/24/2008, -1/+14***** stupid slide shows.
- MARCUSMARC, on 11/24/2008, -2/+14This article is for highly anticpated cars...aka: newly redesigned. The Elise, Evo, and Sti are not newly redesigned. I would have to agree with you though that the Mustang does not make for a good twisty road tamer.
- jboitnott, on 11/24/2008, -2/+13I'd kill to go tame some roads with that 370z.
- sdwilly, on 11/24/2008, -0/+8Not actually true, the Mustang does because of it's live rear, but the Corvette handles very well.
- hollywoodphony, on 11/24/2008, -0/+8Yes, using the words "twisty" when describing the Mustang (unless you mean it's solid axle) is retarded, but you're missing the point that these are cars that are redesigns for the new year, which none of the cars you mentioned are.
- weasel435, on 11/24/2008, -2/+10The 370z looks awesome! Bringing back some of the old Datsun styling is definitely working for them.
As for the Mustang...disgraceful. The very last thing it's going to be doing is going around turns. And with that miserable 300hp, it's going to be having a hard time going in a straight line. When are people going to figure out that these are awful cars!? - maximilen, on 11/24/2008, -2/+9370Z= wrap your ass in something fast. Stang= wrap your ass around a tree w/ your rubbish solid axle
- GiJoeBob, on 11/24/2008, -2/+9Dear Road and Track,
Your website sucks.
Sincerely,
GIJoeBob - LetitDrop, on 11/24/2008, -3/+10..RX8
- raptor87, on 11/24/2008, -0/+6... since using launch control voids the warranty
- MaLLiii, on 11/24/2008, -1/+7not when your transmission is broken, then you would look silly
- anenokoji, on 11/24/2008, -1/+7If you're comfortable going around the twisties in a mustang, you're going too slow.
- louiebaur, on 11/24/2008, -1/+7I went yesterday it was awesome!
- stockdam, on 11/24/2008, -2/+7I know they are "anticipated" cars but a Lotus Elise would leave them all on a twisty road.........and so would an old Pug 205GTi or Renault 5 Turbo. Both of these last two are well over 20 years old and neither comes anywhere near 300 bhp.
American cars and twisty roads?????? - orangester, on 11/24/2008, -1/+6I'm a die hard Mustang fan and owner, but Twisty-Road Tamer? I think not. Matter of fact I'm still unsure of the new design. Ford should be focusing on bringing us more stylish, fuel-efficient cars such as the Falcon to America instead of running the Mustang into the ground.
- test5477, on 11/24/2008, -2/+7no mustang should ever be on that list. twisty roads are not for mustangs.
and i think very few people would say the 2010 stang is highly anticipated... - vashth3stampede, on 11/24/2008, -3/+7...Camaro?
Also, as much as I love Camaros/Firebirds, they'll never be the same without T-tops =/ - Spytap, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4It should, however, be able to "hang and bang" with other 18-30k dollar cars, which it fails miserably at. And yes, I've driven the base, GT, and Shelby, and they're all terrible cars at anything other than going straight.
- kenlaw, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4I would be glad to try on most comers with my '01 Roush Mustang. It handles the twisties just fine thanks to a little Roush Engineering. And it's still cheaper than a Vette or Viper.
- centerblack, on 11/24/2008, -3/+7Yea I stopped reading the article when I saw the Mustang. Sounds like roadandtrack.com got paid to write some articles for Detroit? Next they'll be telling us that it's efficient.... compared to a 1995 Suburban.
- hollywoodphony, on 11/24/2008, -2/+6I can finally see the original Z in the design of the new one. It had been missing (in my eyes, at least) for the last 25 years.
- merlinxlr, on 11/24/2008, -4/+8GT-R plz. Would make any of those look silly.
- erasedgod, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3Is that a serious question?
- anixmander, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3I paid 18K out the door for mine, admittedly it is the V6 model, but I couldn't and still cannot justify another 10K for a extra 90 horse and doubled car payments. I'd love to have a Vette, they are beautiful cars, especially the latest iterations, but I dont have 50-60 grand to buy one with. Nor am I willing to pay for the insurance on one.
And I enjoy the Mustang immensely.
Isn't that what is it supposed to be about?
@Spytap; Guess I am lucky then. cause mine handles great, but then, as I said, I have nothing to prove to anyone when I am behind the wheel. When I am driving in the mountains near here, I am more interested in the scenery and the lady sitting next to me than I am in seeing how far I can push it in the corners.
Sides, my last ticket cost me over 300, don't feel the urge for another. And the cops round where I spend my time are sticklers for speed limits. The bastards. - balthisar, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2The Mustang as least of all of them is very affordable, unless your idea of average is the bottom rung of middle class (that's not average /yet/, but give it a couple of years).
- raptor87, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2my buddy has an r5 turbo II one of the coolest cars ive ever seen
- Spytap, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2Okay, what about the Exige 260 then?
- jgreene777, on 11/24/2008, -1/+3Two things:
I've owned a Mustang and you'll never tame curves with one. You might be able to blow away a lot of cars on the straights, but never in curves. I own a Sky Turbo Red Line now and the thing hauls and hugs curves better than any Mustang I've ever driven. The thing is impressive.
Ford's designers could f-up a wet dream... The 2010 looks great, until you get to the rear end. The front end looks a lot tougher and the "haunch' over the rear wheels looks great... but those tail lights look like a Probe from the 90's. The wrap-around look is ridiculous. - DragonForce4, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2Now they know
AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE - diggit83, on 11/24/2008, -3/+5Ive read by former owners (Yes there are already FORMER owners....)that the transmission starts to go after a few spirited track days.....
the new GT-R is a disgrace.....
Oh and it would have a hard time making even the boxster look silly...not saying the boxster could beat it, but it wouldnt be far enough off that the price difference would be worth it. The California would most likely edge out the GT-R around any track - sportbikepilot, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1I can't see why anything by U.S. auto makers made this list
- hwy9nightkid, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1you lost all creditability stating its a V6, it's lighter AND you still don't hang in the corners..whatever
- sportbikepilot, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2agreed, I've never seen a car that can keep up with my on my lil' sv650 in the curves
- vertigo32, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2The GT-R is a disgrace to the name. Nissan should be embarassed that they build that thing.
The production cars are pathetically slower than the pre-production ringers and Nissan still can't build a transmission that will stay together. It's one thing if it breaks when you abuse it, but the transmission starts to go after just a few days of driving the car like it is supposedly designed for.
Then, Nissan goes so far as to disable your warranty if you use one of the most highly pushed features of the car. - Spytap, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2Agreed. It's one of the few American cars I'd drive, along with the new CTS-V. Impressive car, to say the least.
- hwy9nightkid, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Axle?
- silveravnt, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2GT-R looks silly next to a ferrari. There fixed.
- TWOBUCK40, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2Thats not exactly 'taming the twisties' is it?
- TWOBUCK40, on 11/24/2008, -2/+3burried for Mustang inclusion
- frasermoo, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1The R5 turbo was too fast for its own good. proper mental motor.
- Harbinger67, on 11/24/2008, -3/+4Twisty road tamer?
Buy a sportbike. - RaiderJatt02, on 11/24/2008, -2/+3while I agree that "twisty road tamer" and "mustang" is ridiculous, it's only because it is a STOCK mustang. The solid rear axle gets a horrible reputation for having ***** handling but the truth is, if it is set up correctly, it can be a killer in the twisties...just look at the FR500 mustangs. they still have a solid rear axle and they kick ass in the grand am races. I'm not doubting that an IRS setup is usually more effective around corners, but i'm tired of hearing that the solid rear axle in mustangs is completely useless in the twisties.
- hwy9nightkid, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1yea the boxtor!!
lol - LetitDrop, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1What are you talking about? Mazda just redesigned the 2009 rx8 from the previous models. Evo and STi get loving too.
- hwy9nightkid, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1wow what a tool, my gf loves it therefore its a good car, I've driven mustangs of all types and years including the stage 2 roush back in 2004 or so. Stock GT mustang has the ***** clutch for a brand new car I've ever driven. Cheaper still was the interiors. If you like the car..great! but I can say for sure it's not fun to drive when you need to get on it. Best clutch for day to day was the old M5.
"On the other hand, I can take normal mountain roads in mine with no loss of confidence in its road holding ablility."
Get an independent rear suspension, than claim to have some confidence hahahaha -
