- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -1/+33The list from 10 to 1:
Honda Element
Kia Amanti
Acura RL
Ferrari 612
Lexus GS
Caddy XLR
Jeep Compass
Mercury Grand Marquis
Volkswagon Touareg
Hummer - ianryerson, on 02/25/2009, -1/+21Yay, no more PT cruiser.
- chrissku, on 02/26/2009, -1/+18They should've dropped the PT Loser years ago.
- franklymister, on 02/26/2009, -1/+18It's not even a military assault vehicle. It's just a Chevy Tahoe with a body by Hot Wheels.
- MensFitness, on 02/25/2009, -1/+17I agree with the No. 1 choice on the list, but I thought the Honda Element had a solid following?
- xxMaxaroni, on 02/26/2009, -6/+21Dugg for Hummer alone. YOU DO NOT NEED TO DRIVE YOUR CHILDREN TO SOCCER PRACTICE IN A MILITARY ASSAULT VEHICLE.
- RoroCo, on 02/25/2009, -0/+14My wife owns an Element, and I must say that that car is extremely versatile. Once I got past the unconventional body, I actually started to like it (it is like a puppy that is so ugly that it is cute). I think it is a perfect car for those that need close to SUV space without breaking the bank.
- MpVpRb, on 02/26/2009, -3/+17The Element ROCKS!
Quite possibly the most useful combination of features of any car on the market.
Can them ALL, but leave the Elemant! - flammablewater, on 02/25/2009, -3/+16The honda element is one of the most practical sport utility vehicles you can buy. It's not an "SUV" like your mom drives. It's fuel efficient, can carry all your crap, the seats fold down into beds, and when it gets muddy from GOING OFF ROAD you can hose down the interior if need be. It's not an over-sized grocery getter and it doesn't ride on 22" chrome. It's not built for that.
Also, the Toureg is quite similar, one of the most capable SUVs (in the classic sense) on the market. It will wear your stupid rims, but it will also go off road and do it well, plus it's the same base as the Porche Cayenne, which is also a very capable off roader. - drifter, on 02/26/2009, -1/+11This really wasn't that great of a list. Many on the list I see daily and would not expect the manufacturer to drop it anytime soon. Not to mention I am sure the auto manufacturers already know what they will be getting rid of in the next few years.
Also having the Ferrari, was just dumb, honestly any Ferrari is amazing and shouldn't be dropped. - TheHod, on 02/26/2009, -1/+11***** advertisement, right in the middle.
- Raider007, on 02/26/2009, -2/+11The Element is actually one of the best real "suv's" out there. Sure it doesn't look pretty and doesn't have a huge amount of power, but it's super practical and perfect for someone that wants to really use it as an suv... ie: someone that actually goes camping/to the beach/on trips/outdoor stuff.
- BigPapi, on 02/26/2009, -1/+9Old people love the Grand Marquis because it's big, comfortable and doesn't change at all. My 96 Grand Marquis I had in college is almost exactly the same as the latest 2009 model. They're the best highway cruising cars you can find. Screw this list, Ford/Mercury can keep cranking them out as long as they want.
- merky1, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8Who wrote this list? What points were used to determine the list? And how many clicks would I have had to use to read the list if someone hadn't all ready put it here?
I guess in web 2.0, its the new way to make money... - kmb1794, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8blog fail
- St0neman, on 02/26/2009, -1/+8The Amanti - the worst piece of dog ***** I ever test drove.
Why?
- Knockoff mercedes front end
- Tawdry wood knockoff interior
- Horrendous body roll (bigger than Rosie O'Donnel's rolls)
- Atrocious braking, cornering, and acceleration
- The only car I know that if hit with a hammer, would improve it's resale value and looks
- The test drive reminded me of how it must feel being in the back of a turnip truck
- Your family will disown you; your dog will run away, and your girlfriend will leave you for your secretary.
In a word, it's a bag of ***** with wheels. - tushardhoot, on 02/26/2009, -2/+9What a ridiculous article. Most of those cars weren't even from companies that need to can any of their models.
- winterorchid, on 02/26/2009, -0/+6Pretty sure GM has already decided to kill the XLR. Why would they pick corvette + northstar to can ahead of the whale-ish reminder of mid-90s cadillac, the DTS.
And why so many pages? - cawpin, on 02/26/2009, -1/+7Whoever put this list together is an idiot simply for suggesting that the XLR isn't a good car. It's basically a Cadillac Corvette. That isn't a bad car.
- Lewie, on 02/26/2009, -0/+6GM: Kings of Rebadging.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -1/+7nooo keep hte Saturn Sky! made by the Vette engineers and better looking than the solstice!
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -1/+5i personally thought Saab had a good following
- Maksx, on 02/26/2009, -7/+11how about every kia?
- waydee, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4They did and still do although to a lesser extent these days. They've never had mass market appeal though.
- drjay2003, on 02/25/2009, -0/+4Ahh, I kind of liked the Amanti. Mercedes style on the cheap.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -1/+5that mercury is pimpin!
- thefreshjive, on 02/26/2009, -1/+5It's actually very ironic and stupid to place Ferrari on that list, a company who takes pride in providing limited availability and discontinues most of its legendary car line-ups, i.e. F40, F50, F355, etc. Any Ferrari owner should be damn proud of their car regardless what model it is.
- robbie32, on 02/26/2009, -1/+5Mercedes style on the cheap.
That is precisely why I despise it. I'm not angry that it tries to look nice. I'm angry that it copied others (quite poorly I might add). Admittedly the interior is nice. - Emachine, on 02/26/2009, -1/+5Please change/kill the sebring, it's painful to look at, and drives like a boat.
- mogebier, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4At least it's better looking that that Chevy HHR POS car.
I now drive an xB box. I like "odd" cars. - jlan, on 02/26/2009, -2/+6Obviously written by someone who doesn't know cars and doesn't know the industry. I was expecting to see models more in line with the current discussion focused on North American companies. Who cares if Ferrari cans a model or doesn't? They are not living or dying on a bloated lineup and low sales.
- Ica7us, on 02/26/2009, -2/+5I'm happy they didn't pick on the American car companies
- Lewie, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3The 9-2x and 9-7 killed Saab's "independent" image. GM did everything antithetical to Saab tradition. I had the 9-5 oil sludge problem, so perhaps I'm a bit biased.
Hopefully Saab will get funding from a source that won't mess with a good thing. - MensFitness, on 02/25/2009, -0/+3I used to have an old '89 900 S -- i loved that car.
- arkaycee, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3One really cool thing going for the Element -- it can be relatively easily modded for people with physical disabilities. I have a friend with MS who can still use a walker but sometimes needs a wheelchair, and it's very hard for her to get into and out of just about any vehicle, but her Element, modded for something like $10K (I gather that's cheap for the sorts of mods needed -- automated doors and such) makes the driving part of her life much easier.
- beasty_dave_Mk2, on 02/26/2009, -1/+4pfft...the v10 Touareg Diesel, while ungodly pricey, is godly in every other aspect imo...
- rugger, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3Yes but when there are two other cars on the market that are the exact same car with a different badge and body styling, the jeep compass becomes rather pointless.
- groberts1980, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3Thank you for saying it. xxMaxaroni is way too nice to Hummer. The only vehicle his comment could refer to would be the H1, still made by AM General. Every Hummer made by GM is a Chevy Tahoe.
- Hanykins, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3I have no problem with canning the Kia Amanti, but save the Element for its practicality.
- mastersmite, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3This list is absolutely retarded. not only is it on multiple pages, but it is just wrong in so many ways.
the element is a good car, tons of space, good mileage, and you can get a 5-speed in it, so that is a plus.
i agree, kia in general should die.
the Acura RL is a very nice car, if driving dynamics (FWD FTL) aren't your thing, but luxury and longevity (it's a Honda after all) are, then it is a great car.
why would they even mention ferrari, a company that doesn't make enough cars annually to matter in the great scheme of things, just very fast and nice ones...
The Lexus GS is an attempt to be a Mercedes or BMW, problem is, it is still a toyota underneath... this one i sort of agree with...
the Caddilac XLR is a gimped corvette with a fancier interior, i am 50/50 on this one. i would love to see an update to it like they did with the new CTS-V
the Jeep Compass shouldn't have existed in the first place, so there should be no reason to can it... badge engineering FTL
if they kill the Grand Marquis, what will all the old people drive? not to mention it is a relatively dependable front engine rear wheel drive V8 sedan that can fit 5-6 people in relative comfort.
the VW toureg is a great SUV, especially the Diesel version which can pull a 747 because it has a metric-*****-ton of torque, not to mention it is like getting a Porsche Cayenne or Audi Q7 for a lot cheaper. (they are all the same vehicles with different engine/suspension/drivetrain/body-panel/interior combinations)
Hummer is a nice, dependable truck, also one of the safest ways to get around since anything you get in an accident with will most likely be much smaller than you. - dirrtydirrty, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Actually, the people inside will probably not be OK if it runs over an anti-tank mine. The flat undercarriage of the HI will cause the vehicle to most likely launch upwards and flip over. That is why newer specialty vehicles have a "V" shaped undercarriage to deflect the force of a land mine to the side instead of straight up.
- tod07, on 02/26/2009, -1/+3I love my 98 Grand Marquis, buried.
- williemain, on 02/26/2009, -2/+4I hate Grand Marquis's. I constantly panic when I see them because I think they are cops!
- groberts1980, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Best means ugliest now?
- tmacfan4321, on 02/26/2009, -2/+4The XLR isn't a bad car, it's just that it is the most useless car ever. What's the point of it? It delivers less horsepower for a much larger sum of money and it is an automatic.
- graduisic, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2It took me about 4 tries to understand what you were trying to say there.
- thixotropic, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Buried for no mention of the Chrysler 300c/dodge Charger, that has to be the most horrendous platform ever.
- MichaelCorleone, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2only 2 by gm and one by ford and one by chrysler?
Here's a better list
GMC Yukon Denali (or Chevy Suburban)
GMC Sierra
Cadilliac Escalade Ext (or Chevy Avalanche)
All Hummers
Dodge Charger (or the 300c)
Chevy Impala (or Chevy Malibu, just pick one midsize sedan)
Dodge Grand Caravan (or Chrysler Town and Country)
Mercury Mountaineer
Pretty much what I'm saying is stop making cars that compete against each other. There's no reason to make the same car under different brands, what a waste of money. - klowngoblin, on 02/26/2009, -1/+3that peice of ***** sad excuse for a mil spec vehicle is not anywhere close to being like the H1
H1's can take an anti tank mine and the people inside will be OK
also the glass on that H1 can take a .50 BMG sniper round and not go through - wassim2k, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2When will slideshows and lists start being slideshows or lists, instead of pages.
