- Tunguska, on 05/19/2008, -5/+56This list is *****.
- jubilee123, on 05/19/2008, -3/+51$1,600 in five years? Bitch, please. Try driving a 20+ year old car.
- Trey9128, on 05/19/2008, -2/+34These Forbes lists are absolutely stupid, just a worthless tease trying to generate traffic to their ad-laden site.
The REPAIR cost for all these vehicles is essentially zero, as they are under warranty. What they really mean is MAINTENANCE cost, which is something different. Either way, a totally worthless list. - karthikeleven, on 05/19/2008, -1/+25forbes.com should really upgrade their slideshow software ......
- JerryAscione, on 05/19/2008, -1/+25Ummm, what about a Lamborghini?
- trofeo, on 05/19/2008, -2/+15If you can afford one of the luxury cars on the list, I doubt these repair costs will really be that big a deal to you. (I have nothing against anyone that owns a luxury car, they are the cars I dream of one day owning.) What would be more useful is a list of the most expensive to repair in relation to how much they cost.
- themaestro18, on 05/19/2008, -8/+20The most expensive car to repair would be the Bugatti Veyron, not anything from that list.
http://www.bestsnippets.com/post/35145334 - MrFurious2k, on 05/19/2008, -1/+10So basically - if you buy an expensive car, the parts are expensive.
- jackalsclaw, on 05/19/2008, -4/+12if you have a accident going 253 mph, then repairing the car becomes the 3rd most expensive thing, behind reconstructing your body using stem-cells/nano-bionics, and fixing the whole in the road and time/space you left behind.
- groberts1980, on 05/19/2008, -0/+8A Hummer for anyone is just dumb. The only ones that have any respect are H1's. H2's and H3's are just GMC Suburban's with a different body. Full disclosure: I own a Jeep.
- jemka, on 05/19/2008, -2/+8Looking at an average of less than $1 per day, I'll take any of these cars.
- cheapotheclown, on 05/19/2008, -3/+8Interesting is the absence of Japanese cars from the list. Subaru WRX and that's it.
- allenthar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5I'm driving a 16 year old Buick, and the only money I've spent on repairs is replacing the alternator. Other than that, it's fine.
Well, except that the windows on the passenger side don't work, the right blinker sticks, the trunk sometimes spontaneously opens, and my steering wheel started smoking last week.
But hey, at least it STOPPED smoking. :P - drifter, on 05/19/2008, -3/+8This was posted no more than a month ago.
And really any car can be expensive to fix. Go to many dealers now it is a minimum of $60-100 an hour. Fixing cars is pricey. But i would expect a Ferrari or Lambo to be more expensive than a M6. - Abomonog, on 05/19/2008, -1/+6Two Volvo's came through my shop recently. Both were 03 S80T's and came in for engine repairs. On one of them the parts required for it alone costs over $3000 (Total head and valve replacement). The other, though still a pretty basic valve cover gasket job the parts were still over $400.
The most expensive domestic basic repair I have seen was a spark plug change on the '05 F150 carrying the 5.7 or 5.3 liter engine. Due to a flaw in design a total head job is required to replace the spark plugs (Unless you get really freaking lucky and they don't break off in the head). The average cost of this job is about $1200 making the '05 F150 the most expensive tune up out of them all. - mrgrimshaw, on 05/19/2008, -2/+7Agreed. This pisses me off to no end.
- smartazz, on 05/19/2008, -2/+7It looks like a list of cars that "many people can afford" not "cars we made 10 of"
- FKnight, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5Awwww, poor babies who read Forbes are pissed off because they have to pay $1500 every five years to maintain their $104,000 car.
I wish I had problems like that. - jsballardx, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4I never should have bought a stupid ***** Audi. Every time I turn around something effs up on it, the window won't roll up, the coolant light goes off (got a recall notice on that the other day), horn won't work, it just seems to be an endless list. Next car I get will be foreign but not made in Europe.
- jjohnstn, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Hmmm.... expensive cars = expensive repairs? Who'dve thunk it?
- inactive, on 05/19/2008, -2/+6Wanna know which car parts cost the most (in ordinary vehicles)? Mazda (after that, Land Rover). Yes, more than Mercedes etc. I don't know where Mazda gets its prices, but once I couldn't find a compressor for a 2001 Mazda minivan for a customer EXCEPT from the dealer. A VERY EXPENSIVE compressor is around 600-700 dollars from the likes of Mercedes. This one cost $1400 AND has failed twice on me in a year. I've had to replace it twice for free for my customer. Then I had a 95' Mazda Millenia 2.3 turbo whose timing parts (where once again, ONLY THE DEALER had them) totaled $2700 list, and that was without labor. I let the customer scour the net for cheaper prices and give me the parts. He couldn't find them all, but I imagine he found it for cheaper. So in short, don't get a Mazda. Or at least don't buy a used one and/or attempt to keep one long after the warranty.
- inactive, on 05/19/2008, -5/+9half these images aren't even correct.
how did this dumbass post make it to "most popular" on upcoming? - gl77, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4yes, 5 wires. 4 spark plug wires + 1 coil wire = 5 wires.
- princess1012, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5Come to the UK, woman, and EVERY car is more expensive to repair than your A8. Dumb ass article!
- idreamwideyed, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4that was a whole lot of clicking.
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4as if the lists werent cheesy enough in the first place, more and more of these sites are taking the lists and either making them into a "slideshow" or they put 1-3 items on a page. really lame.
- SpookyET, on 05/19/2008, -1/+4That's bollocks. We have spent more on a piece of ***** Chevrolet. I've had enough and bought a Honda.
- blacktriangle, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3The H2 is a gas guzzler. Because it has a gross vehicle weight rating over 8500 lbs, the US government does not require it to meet federal fuel efficiency regulations. Hummer isn't even required to publish its fuel economy (owners indicate that they get around 10 mpg for normal use). So while our brothers and sisters are off in the Middle East risking their lives to secure America's fossil fuel future, H2 drivers are pissing away our "spoils of victory" during each trip to the grocery store.
- groberts1980, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3And no substance.
- ccm1120, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3Well if you have the money to buy a car like that, you should have to money to be able to repair it.
- Herolint, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3I hate Forbes.com and their stupid slideshows, but mostly their stupid slideshows.
- MistaWiggs, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Heh to replace the windshield on my jag it would cost nearly $1,000. I totalled that thing earlier this month when the damage was nothing but the bumper, headlights, hood, and radiator!
- crownedgriffin, on 05/19/2008, -6/+8How is the Hummer H-2 "non-luxury?" It all show.
- 4LeggedtriPod, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3They should have upgraded it years ago, they haven't and won't.
- samuraix98, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2are you kidding, first off Volvo's, are super cheap like a Toyota or a Honda but the problem is PARTS and finding some one who is actually qualified to repair this type of car. If some thing major breaks then you might as well buy a new car instead of handing out the money for fixing a Volvo.
- sgvprelude, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I'm sorry, but if you can afford these cars, you shouldn't be complaining about a measly $1600+ in 5 years.
- unusualbob, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2my 14 year old Acura hasn't had any issues really, just master cylinder replacement (expected) and I had one caliper fail.
Thats literally everything I have fixed in the past 8 years. - soupnrc, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3Amen.
Until two weeks ago I had been driving a 1988 Chevy Silverado since 2003. I spent $4,500 when we bought it and put somewhere around $7000 into it in about 5 years. Now THAT'S expensive for 5 years. Granted, that's $11,500 and not like $500,000 like some of those cars. - JakePM, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2good point - you are right, this Bugatti would probably be the most expensive.
But what about a classic, like a dussenberg, wouldn't that be expensive to repair and upkeep too? - especially when they are going at auction for like 3million and 4 million$$ ! Who do you get to repair that type of car...only major restoration and specialist shops, I suppose. - pinje, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I did want to read this list, but as soon as I saw it was forbes I didn't bother
- groberts1980, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3Whenever I see a Forbes submission I automatically go to the comments to see if anyone posted the list. I refuse to visit Forbes.com.
- Predater, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2My guess is Nano from TATA, India (when it comes out).
Price: $2500 - icexe, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2those estimates are a lot lower than I expected. A $1600 repair bill in 5-years on a $80,000 luxury car wouldn't make most of those owners blink an eye. Heck, even the $1000 repair bill on the Subaru Impreza is trivial nowadays. I recently spent more than that just getting suspension work done on my Ford Explorer.
- dcshiderly, on 05/19/2008, -3/+5I've a 1993 Mercedes 190E, and due to the fact that MBZ made millions of the things, and most are still on the road, it's far and away the cheapest vehicle I've ever maintained. Examples:
Power Window motor and drive assembly: $59
Cap, Rotor, Plugs and Wires: $100 total
Brakes, Front Disks and Pads: $80 total
Brakes, Rear Disks and Pads: $80 total
New OEM Euro-spec headlamp assembly and bulbs x2: $180 total
Shocks/struts, full set: $200
New OEM front lower control arms: $200 (both)
I plan on a full interior refresh later this year, and it should run just under a grand, using all-new panels from Germany, fresh off the line from an MBZ OEM. It's just silly, how inexpensive this car is. - makkaveli19, on 05/19/2008, -3/+4They even posted the wrong picture for the mercedes benz CL. the pic is the new entry line c classes.
- oaktree, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1That makes sense...forgot about the lack of coil packs...
- Antwan718, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2They are called "Trans Am I getting home" for a reason if your going to go for one of the V8 F bodies, expect that thing to break down GM tried ot hard to incoporate a high proformance LS1, LT1 , or TPI depending on the year into a car that people wanted to use as a daily driver. I had an 87 Iroc 350 that thing every other week needed a few hours worth of work doing it yourself.
