- powatom, on 05/05/2009, -1/+44I fail to see how anybody can think this is anything less than blindingly obvious.
If your eyes aren't on the road, you're not looking where you're going.
If your hands aren't on the wheel, you aren't in control of the vehicle.
Anybody who says 'I can drive just fine while texting' is just lucky they haven't killed anybody yet. - dreambig207, on 05/05/2009, -0/+37hell, some people can't drive without any distractions, lets focus on them...
- vivisimonvi, on 05/05/2009, -2/+24Virtual Texting while Driving Kills Pedestrians
- endlessoul, on 05/05/2009, -3/+20Women.
- Crimsoneer, on 05/05/2009, -2/+193 strikes penalty? what, they have to hit 3 people before we take them off the roads?
Driving is bloody hard, especially in a packed city. Using your phone is dangerous in those circumstances, if you aren't prepared to accept that, then take the bus. - mirot, on 05/05/2009, -0/+16yes, we know this already
- Tollofsen, on 05/05/2009, -0/+12Carmageddon style.
- Rapter09, on 05/05/2009, -0/+11Someone just needs to write a "Big Book of Common Sense" so that scientists don't need to waste their time applying the scientific method to stupid questions just to prove to stupid people that what they're doing is... stupid.
- AiguilleDuMidi, on 05/05/2009, -2/+13I want to know how many of my tax dollars were spent to study the bleeding obvious.
- TheSuperunknown, on 05/05/2009, -1/+11Why do people feel the need to do everything but pay attention and drive when they're behind the wheel? It's not like it's a few people either, its damn near everyone on the road.
- anitafagina, on 05/05/2009, -1/+10Last summer I was sitting on my front porch and a kid went by on a crotch rocket. He was driving one handed, and texting. Crappy cellphone too, so he was T9ing it.
It was sort of one of those moments that you're like "oh, that's sort of impressive", and then that thought gives way to "well, he's not going to be around long". - smackydoodle, on 05/05/2009, -0/+9I saw a great billboard the other day...
"Intexticaded while driving? K, c u soon. A message sponsored by Clark's Collision Center" - RagManX, on 05/05/2009, -0/+8See - this is why I text while driving only if I'm drunk, eating a hamburger, *AND* having sex at the same time as well. I find that each distraction cancels each other in this combination so I can drive better than when I'm just driving and singing badly to the music on the radio.
- Mightbiteyou, on 05/05/2009, -0/+8I had no idea texting was so dangerous, its back reading books while driving for me.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -3/+10Studies show that virtual texting while virtually driving make you look like a virtual douchebag.
- MasterGrief, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7'Course, you're also going a lot faster. When I was driving cross-country about a month ago, I made the mistake of trying to bother with an old camera in my lap while I was driving on an empty highway in rural west Texas. I was probably going forty, not really that fast, but I looked up from the camera in time to see that I was about to drive off the road and into a ditch. I panicked, overcompensated, and did a loopy 360, stopping in the middle of the street. I shudder to think what would have happened if the place hadn't been so completely deserted. Lesson learned: keep the eyes on the road.
- endyminion, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7Until you hit the deer you didn't see in the road.
- powatom, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7And so my point still stands - you've just gotten lucky so far. Just because you normally don't see another car for miles doesn't mean there won't be a day when one is going to come out of nowhere. That's the day you'll regret texting your friends or whatever the hell is so important you'll risk your life and the lives of other road users.
- wolfing, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7dude, your eyes and mind are freaking focused on a tiny little display away from the road!
- powatom, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7I have yet to be convinced that there is any situation where taking your eyes off the road and your hands off the wheel to focus on something which can wait til you're not piloting a ton of metal and explosive material is considered 'safe'.
- Sentouki, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6"minimum of distraction"
Wtf are you smoking? - jax0047, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6The fun police strike again, next they'll tell me not to drink jack daniels or get road head while im driving.
- sexybobo, on 05/05/2009, -0/+61st mythbusters did not find it to be untrue there test showed that it is just as dangerous the only stipulation they said id you could always drop your phone if you needed to.
2nd missouri has a law where drivers under the age of 18 can only have 1 other person under the age of 18 in the car with them unless they are siblings. That is so they don't have a conversation with some one in the back seat and they pay attention to the road. - TheSuperunknown, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6I live in Florida. Young people and the stupid ***** they do on the road are easily worse than grandma going 10 under the limit in her Buick.
- sexybobo, on 05/05/2009, -4/+10texting while driving is stupid and should be illegal.
Talking while driving is different a lot of people can talk and drive fine some can't. - sexybobo, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5you need to search on youtube for freeway crashes tones of videos of people not paying atention of the freeway slamming at 70mph into stopped vehicles.
The faster you are going the more dangerous every thing is when you eventualy do run in to something because you are to busy to pay attention to the road i hope it is a bridge and not a car with people in it. - mailmanmania, on 05/05/2009, -8/+13How about we cite those who drive like crap while using their cellphones? Give them a sort of 3-strikes penalty system. Leave alone the good drivers who know how to be safe and talk at the same time.

- pe5t1lence, on 05/05/2009, -1/+6GET OUT OF THE VIRTUAL ROAD, ASS!!!! Use the virtual sidewalk!
- qerplonk, on 05/05/2009, -1/+6At first I thought it was an Onion headline...
- inigomntoya, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4Those are my thoughts as well.
Unless getting my driver's license counted on it, I would try and break the high score set by the previous virtual driver.
Playing GTA has taught me that nothing matters as long as I evade authority. - mizarone, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5At least they didn't go full retard.
- TheNik, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4Yeah, when I'm in Florida (which is a weird situation of too many old people as well as too many stupid young people) I've noticed that the young people are a much bigger problem. Up here in Tennessee, however, the young people aren't as belligerent so the old people pose a much larger, more infuriating problem. I've gotten behind old farts going 10 under, 20 under, and even 30 under in a 45. I don't understand why the elderly population drives the way they do.
- MikaStar, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4Well I'm under the impression that any and all teens are a danger to society when they're on the road, whether they're texting or not and I really don't understand why we don't raise the legal driving age to 18 and only allow them permits w/parent in car until then.
- robEstyles, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3But even more dangerous I would say at 18 since on top of the distraction your an inexperienced driver.
- Ninja187EC, on 05/05/2009, -1/+4Its a game. Your supposed to hit pedestrians duh
- smemily, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Except statistically they're actually not.
- Snoogs, on 05/05/2009, -0/+31) don't fkn spam here.
2) Coldplay sucks, and is gay.
3) I ***** surf the web on my iPhone while masturbating going 90 down the interstate in congested traffic. ***** you. - brownsound00, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3how does that make sense? the only difference is that in the city streets your bumper might get wrecked... whereas on the free way you could slam into a car and trash your whole front. or even hurt yourself.
- chokeaduck, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3I see this occasionally on the road, and I think if police see someone texting while on a roadway, they should pull them over, and then smash the phone with their boot. Honestly. If it's that important, pull over.
- hokie47, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3I wished that voice recognition software on cell phones did not suck so much. I would love to just "Computer please dictate message" and have it 99.9% accurate.
/This comment reminds me that star trek is coming out in a few days..Hell Yeah, better pick up my uniform from the cleaners. - MonkeyFit, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Because it really doesn't matter. Chances are any new driver will be like that. Think about how many people turn 21 and go out and get completely ***** and do retarded things. The fact that older people seem to be better drivers is because they've had years of experience under their belt.
- sndream, on 05/05/2009, -1/+4Those in the studies think that it's a Crazy Taxi competition?
- TheNik, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Yeah. I don't usually text while driving but looking for songs on my iPod is probably going to kill someone someday; or I will end up purposefully running someone over enraged by my dock not staying in place when I turn. >:(
- LoneWolf01, on 05/05/2009, -1/+4Oh God, won't somebody please think of the virtual children?
- schloems, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Citations will turn into another basic speeding ticket which will have no real deterrence to those who are doing it. Laws are created to keep honest people honest and your typical teen whose mom or dad will pay the ticket will go on changing only one thing... one more reason for people to complain about law enforcement. Not too mention this will not be heavily enforced in adults (especially the middle class) because law enforcement is a large political tool for the mayor in major cities and obviously the elected official we call the sheriff in counties. The only real way to police something like this is to drive defensively within your own right be responsible. And for all the teens out there complaining why us why us because stats don't lie... do a little research your obviously on the net looking at the comment so go to Google and take a little initiative.
- ilovegarnet, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3It took me trying to text while driving (car in motion) ONLY ONCE and I immediately realised it's a bad idea and stopped. It takes a lot of concentration off the road in order to read the screen and find buttons!
I don't understand how people do not realise how distracting it is. - sexybobo, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3there is no midnight airing so every one is going to look at you like you are a freak if you go to the premier which sucks because my gf was going to go as yeoman rand
