- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -6/+245I am so rooting for these guys to make it from small production, high-ticket toys for the rich and famous to mass produced vehicles for the people of the world. The original roadsters were in the $100,000 range, the Model S is supposed to go for $60,000. If all goes well, BlueStar will be released in 2012 and cost around $30,000.
Memo to the Federal Government: Quit throwing money away bailing out the failing dinosaurs and show some love to the future of American car making, invest that money in Tesla and let the US lead the way again! - 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -0/+101If Tesla goes public I'm dumping my life savings into the company. All $400 of it.
- Jektal, on 03/26/2009, -2/+87WANT!
- bike4ever, on 03/26/2009, -1/+78Please make this car as is and don't change it to look like everything else.

- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+46Man that is one hot car! I really love Tesla motors and what they have been doing. This is the future! It has a great Aston Martin and Jaguar kind of look.
BTW... "300-mile range, 45-minute fast charge capability, a 0-to-60 time of 5.5-seconds and seat seven" Under 50,000 USD
http://jalopnik.com/5185844/tesla-model-s-sedan-co ... - chronopublish, on 03/26/2009, -0/+40The Model S is launching in late 2011. Tesla says the price will be $57,000 for the base model with 160 miles range. If you include the federal tax credit of $7500 for electric vehicles, this puts the final price of the base model at $49,500. Pretty good!
- Javy42, on 03/26/2009, -0/+36THIS is the direction cars should be heading... absolutely beautiful. These aren't just an electric gimmick either, beautiful inside and out, with a very usable range and no compromises in power. at $60,000, i think its a good deal, I'd take one over an Audi S4 any day, or a BMW M5 for that matter
- diggB, on 03/26/2009, -2/+35FTA.
"The Tesla Model S Sedan will have a 300-mile range, 45-minute fast charge capability, a 0-to-60 time of 5.5-seconds and seat seven. Production supposedly starts 3rd quarter of 2011."
for $49.9k. Yeah, quite a bit, but more than half of the first Tesla Roadster. The 45 minute charge capability, 300 mile range makes this pretty damm sweet.

- ostracize, on 03/26/2009, -1/+30Had the auto manufacturers not been bailed out and gone belly up, it might have freed up the resources this company needs to work on mass production and lowering costs. Instead, we tie up the managers, manufacturers, and engineers in a failing company and companies like Tesla have to make do with what they have.
Tesla is another good example explaining why bailouts are not the best idea for a changing economy. - Larssonk22, on 03/26/2009, -1/+24If BMW and Aston Martin had a child this would be it.
- cambob76, on 03/26/2009, -0/+22Kevin should email everyone who looked at the picture and demand they email back their copy!
- ProKid, on 03/26/2009, -1/+23Best looking Electric Car I've ever seen.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+20after 20,000 diggs can we have one for free? ;)
- DLun203, on 03/26/2009, -0/+20The tesla roadster is a beautiful car. When I heard that they were coming out with a sedan, I wasn't sure they were gonna be able to match the beauty of the roadster. I was wrong. This car looks amazing. They are truly incredible and are the next step away from oil dependency.
- NinjaGod, on 03/26/2009, -0/+19Sexy
- kazoomaloo, on 03/26/2009, -5/+19Haha Kevin Rose leaked the pics a bit early and then they tried to be all, "HEY TAKE THOSE PICS DOWN" but it was too late, the Internets had already gobbled them up and regurgitated them all over the blogosphere. Sweet. Check @kevinrose to see the story as it developed...
- DirtyBinLV, on 03/26/2009, -0/+14Those are the two companies I was going to compare it to. If the styling makes people think of an Aston Martin, they're doing something right.
Does anyone know if Lotus is involved in the Model S like they were with the roadster? - inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+13Good to see you have some savings at least!
- jaymulder, on 03/27/2009, -0/+13And it's gone.
- andersleet, on 03/26/2009, -0/+13I ate a grape...
- dystra, on 03/26/2009, -0/+11*runs in, trying to catch breath*
"am i late!? i came here for the info!" - jturbo, on 03/26/2009, -1/+12I second that, very Aston Martin-esq. It also has the same styling as a Maserati or the Super GT from GTA: IV. I guess it's a good thing they didn't try to go too original, they wouldn't want it to look like the prius.
- AxsToro, on 03/26/2009, -0/+11I actually find that to be a decent price...
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+10The Volt should deliver what you're looking for.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -1/+11INFO!! Really?! I'm glad that a news article has some INFO!! Does the Tesla website also have some INFO!! ?
- karlisjones, on 03/26/2009, -0/+9yes...yes...Yes...YES!
- nesagwa, on 03/26/2009, -4/+13Maybe when our grandchildren are born they will finally release an electric car thats actually ***** affordable.
- soogy, on 03/27/2009, -0/+8Because that would defeat the purpose of running an electric vehicle company. Hybrids are for companies that can't do a full switch to electric.
- Virgule, on 03/26/2009, -1/+9It look like an Aston Martin
- anexanhume, on 03/26/2009, -0/+8Beautiful. Clear step up in design from the other tesla, which already was boasting the sexiness of a lotus.
- EntangledPhysx, on 03/27/2009, -0/+7Everyone and their cousin is against the bailouts. Yet they happened anyways. WTF.
- LordRedSnake, on 03/26/2009, -1/+8Yes, bailouts take money from those who are successful and give it to those who cannot continue to compete. It really thwarts any benefits that come from capitalism.
- mrn111, on 03/26/2009, -0/+7While I agree with your post 100%, the auto bailout is a series of guaranteed low-interest Loans. Not like the $170 billion robbery perpetrated by AIG.
- Vesuvias, on 03/26/2009, -0/+7Wow...I'm speechless... ok maybe not, this thing is GORGEOUS
- solittledeserve, on 03/26/2009, -0/+6It's got a little bit of Maserati in the styling too. It's so pretty.
- Natealus, on 03/26/2009, -0/+6I don't like cars... and that ***** is HOT.
- PKO17, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Awesome car. Road & Track's mock-up from a while back looked better though.
- 120decibel, on 03/26/2009, -1/+6Heck, I would buy the car even if it runs on gas! Beautiful design!!
Why not make a (plug in) hybrid with a decent gasoline engine for 35k to start with? - kidcodea, on 03/27/2009, -0/+5u damn right.
he's turning to the perez hilton of tech.
sad. - bodegit, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5I actually like the Fisker Karma better because it's got a gasoline powered range extender for long trips:
http://www.onelectriccars.com/category/fisker/fisk ...
For now, I'd pick the Karma, since there is no charging infrastructure. But the Model S still looks awesome regardless. - xmarcovinzx, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5exactly. i love it
- greevar, on 03/27/2009, -0/+5Socialism is not communism. Get that into your head first. That being said, the free market would not have killed the electric car. Auto makers and their friends in the oil industry have been keeping the electric car down because it's a threat to their profits, not because no one would want one. Why would GM, Ford, and Chrysler want to give up combustion engines? They make money on very part they sell for their dirty, failure-prone, vehicles that burn rotten plant matter for fuel. If the American auto industry went electric, OPEC would become a distant memory. The likes of Chevron, Shell, and Mobil would go out of business.
Now tell me who wouldn't want an electric car? They're quiet, non-polluting in operation, lighter than a gas vehicle, and their cheaper to own. Sure, they moved the pollution from the road to the power plant, but wouldn't it be easier to convert those plants to solar/wind/nuclear/tidal/geothermal than trying to convert every gas station instead? - andersleet, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5I've been following Tesla Motors since they announced they were developing a version of Nikola Tesla's electric motor for automobile use. The Roadster was beautiful (sure it isn't unique, since Lotus helped them design the body), and this one is even more sexy. Time to start saving so I can get on the waitlist... :D
- diggB, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5The original link said seven, but all other sources (Reuters, AP) say five. Five it is.
- TJ11240, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5They said that they will be manufacturing their own chassis, so I expect very little outside help on this model.
