- bincoder, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1It is cheaper to apply hypermiling to ones present vehicle than to run out to the dealer and drop a huge amount of money. Prius drivers tend to drive in a way that is more efficient because thats the reason they bought one in the first place and it becomes a fun hobby. My over 20 year old truck gets over 30 mpg when I drive it carefully in the city traffic. A lot less (20 mpg) if I drive it the way I used to drive, jackrabbit starts, racing lights and other traffic, etc. I may not get 50 mpg but I also am not in debt for $30,000.
