- RegularUser, on 07/07/2009, -1/+81My memory is a little hazy, but weren't the horses always powered by plants?
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+52An actual horse would be cheaper and eat less plants.
and 100% recyclable too! - UnFriendlyFire, on 07/07/2009, -1/+37Next we reinvent the wheel!
- busterbros, on 07/07/2009, -0/+19"The vehicle--designed like a horse--can climb steep grades and even navigate rocks and boulders. Best part, it finds its own fuel. Using a built-in GPS system, the horse seeks out vegetation which it then consumes and converts to fuel."
Actually, it can do none of those things, because it's just a concept. - HCviolence, on 07/07/2009, -1/+16I for one welcome our robot horse overlords.
- m0nkeybl1tz, on 07/07/2009, -0/+15Yeah, I thought this was a misplaced Onion article until I got to the pictures. I mean, a horse-shaped object that finds and eats plants? Isn't that a horse?
- WVSickfreak, on 07/07/2009, -3/+17Thats using common sense, something most tree huggers lack.
- sh0x, on 07/07/2009, -2/+16What in the good christ are these people on?!
- Jhorra, on 07/07/2009, -0/+14Plus, if your horse breaks down you just eat it.
- WMurderface, on 07/07/2009, -0/+13I have a vehicle concept too. What if the vehicle was more like a car, but rather than having the sun grow plants which it then eats for fuel, it gets its fuel directly from the sun with some sort of solar paneling? My concept vehicle would also look cool, but I'm not going to make illustrations so just use your imagination.
- pingpants, on 07/07/2009, -0/+13Nice bumper stickers. I think he's missing Sea Kittens.
- rbarnes, on 07/07/2009, -0/+11... and it disposes of its waste in a solid form through a convenient one way valve at the rear of the vehicle.
- chikuten, on 07/07/2009, -0/+9Or cut open its guts and take refuge in it!
- CowbellCrusader, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7Bestiality will never be the same...
- JAVandiver, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7Umm, I think that you are giving them more credit than they deserve and you are in fact the one who is retarded; FTA: "Project Nomad is a mechanical vehicle concept by designer Jason Battersby."
Link to Jason Battersby's portfolio page: http://www.coroflot.com/public/individual_set.asp? ...
Translation: One douchebag enviro-hippie actually thought that this would be a good idea for a design project. Instead he should have recycled himself in to some soylent product. - FredFredrickson, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6That is the most ridiculous thing I have seen today.
- jndaniels, on 07/07/2009, -1/+7Perfect, actual horses are such petrol guzzlers
- Dylson, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6If it looks like a horse, walks like a horse, and eats like a horse, chances are it's a horse.
- SQLDigger, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6Hmm, yak maybe? This does sound kind of cool, just not very practical. Biological machines are much more efficient, albeit slower. Be cool if they figure out how to genetically engineer heavy modifications to animals in my lifetime. Maybe a bighorn sheep you could ride up the mountanside.
- spaceageminds, on 07/07/2009, -2/+8This is the dumbest post I have seen on Digg so far. Wasn't the horse always powered by plants? This would do more damage then good. I hope this is a satire.
- McMannus00, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5Why is it being ridden by the Master Chief?
- pgouy, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4Bio-Eco-wheel !
- samard2002, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4Treehugger.com: where pretty pictures = science.
Next up, their economic bailout plan using pots of gold at the end of rainbows based on Billy Smith's 1st grade drawings. Also, super-sized sunglasses for the sun to wear; goodbye global warming! - Xzelick, on 07/07/2009, -1/+5Why is this on treehugger? This thing will eat trees! haha
Also - this thing is illegal and will get you a destruction of vegetation ticket. - Jsmuli2, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4Reminds me of the Second Renaissance scene with the robot riding a robot horse then later robot-dying...robot!
- schmidt349, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4I'm a cowboy on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted... dead or alive - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4I think that falls into the "100% recyclable" part.
- hkeyplay16, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4When I read the headline on Digg, I expected the web site to say "theonion.com"
- snagglefoof, on 07/07/2009, -1/+5This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
- schmidt349, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4There was a similar Onion gag once. The headline:
"Ingenious new device converts grass into meat"
next to a picture of a cow.
edit: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/35813 - WaCkYmAk, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Most importantly, will it poop?
- FredFredrickson, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Robot dugg up robot.
- phishneslo, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Rube Goldberg would be proud... just buy a damn horse...
- SharkPuncher, on 07/07/2009, -1/+4That thing looks awesome. I don't care how impractical it is. I want to ride a bitchin robot horse.
- AmazingA, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3I don't know what's so lame about a robot ATV? I'm picturing that dog robot that can balance itself, only bigger and faster, stomping through the woods transformers style. Way to crush my dream guys!
- hasslinthehoff, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Master Chief looks like a sissy on that thing. He should stick to the Warthog.
- CarStan, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2this would have made a great The Onion article, word for word, except the thing not being mechanical but, well, a horse.
Just shows how ridicolous the idea is - Adrian540, on 07/07/2009, -1/+3This is completely stupid and will never be released. Buried.
- borez, on 07/07/2009, -1/+3Daft.
- joshuaer, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2I used your horse to make the glue to build my horse!
- unknamed, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2Hahhaha.... that was pretty funny stuff! ....(holds hand to earpiece) What's that? ... They're not joking?
(Awkward pause)
I... uhhh, well then, that's very nice and quite innovative. OH OH... maybe next they can start working on some sort of contraption with wheels!! - Dylson, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2I've been waiting for this day for a lonnnnnng time.
- joecomputerguy, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2Yeah, but apparently this horse is going to crap people food!
- askantik, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2It seems Treehugger has really gone south since Discovery bought them...
From what I can tell, this is essentially a rendering done by an art student. This is not an actual project that is seeing any work done upon in the least. - dzhastin, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2This is ten times more retarded than a horse.
If you want to make a horse all you need are two other horses. To make the robo-horse you need to mine metals, refine chemicals to create composite materials and use electricity and manpower to assemble the damn things. It's much more harmful to the planet than a regular horse to create.
Plus it craps out food for you to eat which is just the dumbest thing I've ever heard of in my life. - DannyDaWriter, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Thank you, Jon Stewart.
- demosthesneeze, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2Actual horses can tire out or break legs. Even if these mechanical ones aren't much more durable, I imagine it would be a lot easier to install a spare leg onto one than on a real horse in the middle of nowhere. Also, in a city mechanical horses wouldn't leave poop everywhere either. Besides, PETA would probably nag about land dolphin slavery or some such nonsense if horse riding became prevalent again.
- GamerXR72, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Well, excluding actual horses.
- JK1150, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2Sounds like the ride of the past. Maybe this is a joke by greenpeace take make using horses as transportation cool again?
