Fap - MotherOfGod57, on 12/05/2008, -5/+30what is with all you people wanting GM to fail?
I am 100% against an auto bailout, but I do not want to see GM fail. - byukid, on 12/05/2008, -2/+26I want to see them bankrupt because it offers them a chance to restructure and be competitive.
- cyrusuncc, on 12/04/2008, -4/+26i think everyone knows that already
- axelgrease, on 12/04/2008, -5/+20I wonder if they're gonna press the blue button for "Onstar Financial Assistance" now
hehe - airencracken, on 12/05/2008, -1/+16They were also a major player in dismantling public transit in America in the circa the 1930's.

- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -1/+12They killed Public transport.
They lobbied for no more government on emissions control and fuel economy
They Advertised "Big American" cars as being cheap and fast when a Nissan or Toyota could absolutly thump them on costs and power using half the engine space.
GM lobbied themselves out of a market and out of business and did so by resisting change for the better (Including seat belts) and failed to innovate with new engine technology that could save the customers plenty of fuel dollars over the lifetime of the vehicle.
IMHO GM are where they are because that is what they wanted... - damark, on 12/05/2008, -7/+18Great company ruined by the unions. Hopefully they turn it around.
- IpwnZnoobs, on 12/05/2008, -3/+13I was fired by GM last month :(
- manjar, on 12/05/2008, -3/+136. GM propaganda somehow ends up on Digg.
- Darkgh0st, on 12/05/2008, -2/+11They need file Chapter 11 and then go non-union. Wipe out the UAW and hire all new people. There's enough unemployed people that they could fill all of their factories with new employees and be very selective about the hiring process. The good workers can make $75 as usual & The slugs can make $10/hr. Normal companies have employees that make income proportional to the revenue of the company. The UAW needs to wake the ***** up and get with the times.
- Aleman360, on 12/05/2008, -0/+8What do you know, giving people incentives to buy things they can't afford is a bad idea!
- damark, on 12/05/2008, -0/+8:-( sucks
good luck finding a new job - pistonhonda, on 12/05/2008, -2/+10Reason 2: GM killed the steam locomotive.
Who's going to kill the car if we pump money into a company that doesn't work? - koldmilk, on 12/05/2008, -0/+7I don't want them to fail either, but i think they need to restructure...I love my Saturn, had it for 2 years now and have never had any problems with it.
- deadsenator, on 12/05/2008, -0/+7Thank you. I was going to mention this, too. Topping it off, there was virtually zero penalty even though they were prosecuted and found guilty for these misdeeds.
- thealsir, on 12/05/2008, -1/+8Exactly. No company has the "right" to a bailout, they have a right to bankruptcy. Why is this seen as the Antichrist?
- Kyle1337, on 12/05/2008, -5/+11If GM fails, it's because it could no longer keep up with the competition and ***** business practice. giving billions of dollars to a failing company alive is a complete and total waste.
- karmaghost, on 12/05/2008, -0/+6It seems like the point of this article is to point out all the great things GM has done over the course of their existence. To me, it's just another way of saying "O how the mighty have fallen."
- numb401, on 12/05/2008, -0/+5If you wouldn't buy a car from a company gone bankrupt, why would you buy a car from a company REQUIRING a bail-out to stay afloat?
- scamper22, on 12/05/2008, -0/+5Henry Ford on Bailouts:
"Let them fail; let everybody fail! If I lose everything in the collapse of our financial structure, I will start in at the beginning and build it up again." - Ranvier, on 12/05/2008, -2/+6There's probably a million things I don't know about GM, and they're probably just as boring as these.
- FearFactory, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4maximum nepotism
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -1/+5Vladimir Putin had the merit of cracking down on oligarchs.
Is Obama going to save America or is he just going to suck bailed out CEOs' asses?
Only time will tell. - raptorGT, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4And they did NOT pioneer open heart surgery. Michael E. DeBakey pioneered open heart surgery by inventing the Roller Pump in 1931. It wasn't formally implemented until 1951, still a year before GM supposedly crammed a "short-block" in someone's chest.
Proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_E._DeBakey
Further discrediting this article about GM, the Apollo Guidance Computer was built by MIT's Instrumentation Lab under the direction of Charles Stark Draper.
Proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Guidance_Compu ...
In 1959, 7 years before GM, supposedly made the first fuel cell vehicle, another company, "Allis-Chalmers Research Division", created a working fuel cell tractor producing 20hp and worked quite well. The technology from this company's project is what actually powered the Apollo mission when they scouted out the dusty lump of cheese in the sky.

This article is nothing more than GM propaganda in an economical war of survival. - inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4Urban Tanks?
"terrorists" Moms in a big 4wd with 2 screaming brats.. - stinieroo, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4I drove a GMC Safari that was built in 1988 until just last year. I would have driven her to the junkyard myself (and could have, she still ran quite well) but I gave the van to charity and they insisted on towing cars away.
The paint finish got me long before the performance. I drove the van from 2000 until 2007 and I broke down 3 times. Each time cost me around $200 to fix--a starter, a fuel pump, and a belt twisted in the steering column (the tow cost the most of this one). - mehtheinfernal, on 12/05/2008, -1/+5People weren't so adamant about not bailing out the banks. Because that hit a little closer to home?
Now when it's cars everyone grabs their pitchforks?
I was against any bailout, I just find people switching sides so easily slightly funny. Obviously, we have no say in what our representatives get bought and sold for. - numb401, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4Incredibly enough, many more millions CANT
- ColinApocalypse, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3No, not really...my Chevy S-10 is on the verge of reaching 200,000 miles and has had no major problems with it thus far. And since I live in a rural area, this truck has seen it's fair share of hauling around junk and driving off-road.
- mparker21311, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Because they have had plenty of time to straighten ***** out!
They no longer make ***** anyone wants to buy, yet demand that we bail them out! That's a failed business model, they knew prices of oil would surge eventually. And what did they do? NOTHING! They relied on the fact that they could come crying to the tax payers to bail them out for the fear that we would lose those jobs. ***** them! When I ***** up, I pay for it... and everyone under me pays for my mistake too.
Why don't they just go ahead and socialize vehicles like they plan to do with health care so we each can own one? I mean, it's a right and all! (sarcasm) - absentmindedjwc, on 12/05/2008, -2/+5indeed their cars suck.. that one fact invalidates this list completely... Just because a company makes all kinds of innovations back in the day under different management does not mean it does not deserve the axe today.
The "what have you done for me lately?" syndrome is very big in business.. and from the people's perspective, they "pioneered" in giving us the same old ***** year after year: gas guzzling cars and no fuel efficient cars in sight. The economy tanked, gas prices went up, and instead of going with the market, they continue pushing the same old ***** on us... 17 out of the 93 GM cars currently in production get over 30 MPG, of which only 1 gets over 35MPG. Come on GM... give me a damn break, you can do better than that...
Dont even tell me it isnt possible to do it either: Toyota Prius-46MPG & Honda Civic Hybrid-42MPG
And Ford is a joke as well... it only has the Focus (35MPG) and the Escape (28MPG)...
In all honesty, these companies deserve to go out of business for terrible business model and inability to adapt with the times. Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and the like all changed the way they do things to adapt to the economy, and are doing a lot better than the american car brands (hell... Honda is opening a new plant in Wisconsin I believe) - conna, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3GM won't fail. That's just FUD. They will have to change but that is the point. I'm sorry but if your still building gas guzzling SUV's and can't figure out why nobody is buying them then you really deserve what you get. What is the average MPG for a GM vehicle anyway? What about life span? Dealerships will make money from service. Parts will still be made and bought. People will hold onto their cars longer. Not everyone will afford to buy a new car every 4-5 years and that is what has the big 3 worried.
- Sinnic, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3And all the people digging you down couldn't tell you what a pushrod was if you stuck them in their ignorant eye sockets with it.
- Valyn, on 12/05/2008, -2/+5I have never bought an American car, nor do I intend too anytime soon, I don't want 2.5 million Americans to lose their jobs, but its far too late for them. The US car industry has ALREADY failed. The american car industry lost almost 40% of their sales IN ONE MONTH. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081202/ap_on_bi_ge/au ... How can any amount of money help them?
- cowsgonemadd3, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3This is Onstar how may I help you?
"My friends and I(Ford and Chrysler snicker in the background) would like 34 billion dollars."
Onstar: Please hold......... - damark, on 12/05/2008, -2/+4Normally when a company sees the demand for its goods decrease, it can produce less goods. In the Big 3's case they can't make these cuts because for every job that they get rid of they have to pay about 100K. It is usually more cost effective to just keep producing cars that no one will buy, which then lowers the price.
Until recently the big 3 were selling more cars then they ever were. The problem was that because they had such a high supply of these cars they couldn't charge a proper price. - FaithclubDotNet, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2The government should buy stock in these companies instead of just giving away money. If GM is indeed going bankrupt, it will help them. The government may get a profit too which is like receiving super taxes.
This is just the continuation of a trend where we're losing all our manufacturing to foreign countries because their labor is lower. If we would have put tariffs on things, we could have saved the best 10% of the American industries, and made a lot of taxible profits from the tariffs.
Its probably too late for tariffs now because the WalMart shoppers will be mad that prices went up if you did it now, and we don't have industry to defend anymore. - JustinTX, on 12/05/2008, -1/+3Unions and fat cat CEOs both played their roles. Don't pretend it is an "either, or" situation.
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -4/+6WTF has Unions got to do with poor policy and decisions made by fat cat ignorant CEO's? M8 if Unions never existed your weekly wage would be a whole $2. You can then enjoy suburbs of sprawling shacks...
- inactive, on 12/06/2008, -0/+2Have you ever understood the significance of the English word called RATIO mike?
No Toyota don't make stinking big v8 muscle cars, why would they? I don't give a ***** if your V8 can pull 300kw stock standard. I do care about getting to work in small, powerful car that sips fuel and gets me to places without the need for doing burnouts to impress the next wanker standing next to me..
You see Mike, with the money I save, I can go to places you can't afford. Yo DIgg hoon?
BTW Mike, Subaru make a fairly powerful 4 Cylinder for their WRX that probably would blow you away...Considering it's 4WD its going to leave you spinning at the gate really isn't it.. - taestell, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2No one's going to buy their cars in this economy, bailout or not. So we might as well save our money.
- hclmed, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2That is would -not- remain.
- IpwnZnoobs, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2You guessed it!
- sdwilly, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2I'd be more likely to buy from them under bankruptcy than I would now, at least under bankruptcy I would know they are able to restructure in a way that is beneficial to them.
- mr_ziy, on 01/15/2009, -2/+4I think its their stupid SUV's that are their downfall!
- Whackly, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2Damn it! The hydrogen was not the f$#%^&# reason for the hindenburg disaster!
- ScottishMcDuff, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2I hope the new Camaro gets to see the light of day.
