- jchennav, on 02/11/2009, -0/+17If the Cayenne is the first thing that comes to mind when Porsche is mentioned, seek professional help immediately.
- JackpotCity, on 02/09/2009, -0/+14I beleive that the Porsche has and will always be the boyhood icon of a sports car.
- dizmoz, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9"FOR some Americans, a mention of Porsche conjures up images of Cayenne S.U.V.’s — or even the watches and sunglasses at Porsche Design stores."
I would personally punch you in the face if the word Porsche and "watches or sunglasses" came up in the first sentence you said...
seriously.... in the ***** face - divinediva, on 02/09/2009, -1/+9It was the sowing of seeds.
- Tolzmaniac, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7Buried / Blocked / Reported
- absolutzombie, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7Slow in, fast out.
- Virgule, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6It's the "straight cut" gears. The noise is, albeit slightly annoying, perfectly normal and not a sign of imminent failure. It's a secondary effect of the design.
Many normal cars have straight cut reverse gear. That's why they whine when backing up in a hurry. - Frixionburne, on 02/11/2009, -3/+9There have been some epically bad Porsches. People shouldn't forget that.
- drifter, on 02/11/2009, -1/+7First off you are an idiot or a troll, because it is indeed spelled Porsche. Forget the S dumbass.
Also, its suppose to be pronounced Poor-shhh-ahhh, instead of porch.
Secondly, it's a ***** name, you know how many people say beamer for BMW's when it's actually Bimmer for the car and beamer for the motorcycle. But do i correct them and look like a uptight douche? no. - Lazydriver, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6All of it to haul soccer mom ass.
- scallon, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5not buying an suv made by a sports car company ftw
- dizmoz, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Correction "I left my watch and my sunglasses in my Porsche 911, hold on while I get them."
That would be an acceptable sentence. - HappyScrappy, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Their engines have not typically been terribly efficient (the latest engines are though). And ever since they went to water cooled, their engines are not terrible small. A 3.8L dual overhead cam engine is not terribly small, boxer configuration or no.
They do make some good cars though. Too bad about the Cayenne. - EggSaladKing, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5I have an '84 911 and love it.. The mid 80s 911s can be had for $12-15k or so all day long and are damn reliable. Just be ready for manual steering and power-assist brakes.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4The people who make a point of saying "por-sha" probably don't own one.
Anywho... this is why I love Porsches, this is how it feels every time I drive to the grocery store or anywhere else: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mgWA48tAeo
I love how at the end of the video everyone looks like they just had sex :) - mcquitty, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3I had a 1996 911.
I was 30 when I bought it. Is that middle aged and bald? - pstroll, on 02/11/2009, -4/+7Only problem with owning a Porsche is having to deal with the Corvette neanderthals. They are the "quantity vs quality" crowd and they just don't get it.
I miss my 968 :-( - pacmaann2, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3I really love my 1983 944, you FEEL every detail of the road, it might not be the fastest car out there, but it is really something special to drive.
- ICLW, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Look around. You can pick up a 85-87 944 for 5-6K. Fun car and not exactly fugly. Just keep in mind that the 2.7L 4cyl only gets 16mpg on a good day.
- Birukun, on 02/11/2009, -1/+4Then Subaru took that engine design and made it better and more reliable........
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3...and don't lift!
- CoD4, on 02/11/2009, -3/+5love porsches but this bimmer kills them all!
http://lulcat.com/2008/09/20/scary-bmw-320-pwns-ev ... - deadsenator, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2How regular are these repairs? In 10 years of ownership, I haven't had it happen yet. If it's every 10 years, I'll start saving.
- drex8, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3Wow why so angry? That was just a comment. And I indeed left the 's' out of Porsche by mistake. Looks really awkward when I see it now. Really sorry about that.
And btw, no offense meant, if you felt any. : ) - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2I think the 2010 Boxster might be the best looking of all:
http://jalopnik.com/398562/2010-porsche-cayman-s-b ... - emptyo, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2This tells the story of any of the truly afflicted, of which I am.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRbzJ0L1Zn8
As my other Porsche buddy put it..."Dude...pass the Kleenex". - deadsenator, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2I thought the 944 could get up to 30MPG on the highway. At least that's what all the owners tell me. By "fun", do you happen to mean "put your foot in it"? That would explain your mileage problem.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3And be prepared to throw 5k and $10k into repairs regularly
- waydee, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2Trophy wife/hairdresser car - buy one and you'll never quite get rid of the thought that maybe you should have saved for longer and got a 911 instead.
- Spampy, on 02/10/2009, -4/+6The Cayman is a beautiful car, and I think that Porsche is on the right track for the future, design-wise.
- dengzhi, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2how old are you man? like 80?
- 0260, on 02/11/2009, -2/+4too bad only middle aged bald men are the ones living out their boyhood dreams
- sapped, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2I have had my 1980 SC for 4 years and have spent less than 1k per year on maintenance AND small improvements.
- 12340987, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2why does it sound like a dentists drill?
and i wonder how long than tranny would last - 0260, on 02/11/2009, -1/+2cayman, not cayenne
- AROZ, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Don't follow the gender stereotypes unless you're insecure. It's still a fast car, the styling is great and it handles well.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4But the corvette is like 40,000 USD cheaper and can go faster.........
I am a 911 twin turbo fan myself.... - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -2/+3Porsche is now a senior citizen car of nostalgia. You have to pay as much for the options as the car and owners rarely drive them as they were designed.Overpriced status sybols. i owned a few 1950s 356 models when they laughed at me and called them upside down bathtubs. You could buy them ised in the 70s for a few hundred bucks and they rusted so fast you might fall out the bottom for driving through one winters salt spray. The carbon monoxide from the over engine cylinder head heating system killed many people and almost myself. The extremely oversensitive steering could make the uninitiated driver spin into a wreck and lose control in total. The rear engine weight just whipped the car around. I loved my 357 S90 and Speedster, you sorta made a Karma with the machinery like no other car.My V8 driving buddies in NY hated it when i passed them. Yo friken upsidedown btub! Now i would buy the Nissan GT-R or Audi R8 and probaby will as soon as economy gets better.
- AROZ, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1The 911 is very impressive. The way Porsche has evolved the distinctive design with every generation, rather than changing it completely is fantastic.
- dengzhi, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1boxer looks like ***** and is a woman's car.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Also...
- high performance tires last only 6-10,000 miles, and are loud
- at temperatures below 50F/10C high performance tires harden (like hockey pucks) and become useless for traction
- gas mileage sucks when driven hard (like 10mpg) - dengzhi, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1is it named 'Ruby'?
- mcquitty, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1911. A full sized go cart. My '96 rode like it was on rails.
- Frixionburne, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1VW corrado g60.
This was a porsche proto body used on the corrado and later re styled to fit with the '95 porsches.
I bought one for $500 with about $1,000 invested in repairs. - awfl, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1I want a used Boxster; I read the reviews, but what is everyone's experience? pros and cons? Thx
- awfl, on 02/12/2009, -0/+0Thanks for pointers!
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1Known problems:
- earlier than 2000 has many engine failures
- 2.7L engine has many failures (buy the "S", not the base model)
- coolant reservoir can leak ($1000-1500 repair)
- rear main seal (RMS) all leak a little oil, but significant leaks can cost a lot to repair
- mid-engine car must be driven differently: do not lift throttle in middle of turn (car will spin), go slow into turns then fast out (lots of throttle)
- car feels sluggish at slow speed, becomes lively when driven faster
- seats a tight for large drivers
- brakes are spectacular - awfl, on 02/12/2009, -0/+0Thank you for the pointers and your experience; I used to have an MR-2, drove it very hard, and love mid-engine handling. Also, I have always been a fan of 2-stroke road motorcycles; the fun does not start until you were twenty percent of redline; it sounds like they may have a similar performance/fun curve.
