- pwdrskier, on 03/01/2009, -0/+13why are american cars real cars?
- vault, on 03/01/2009, -0/+11The engines for some Chevys (like the Equinox) are actually made in China. Many of the other parts are made in South Korea and Mexico. In order to not be considered an import, at least 75% of the parts have to be from the US or Canada. But that doesn't mean the parts themselves can't contain raw materials from anywhere else.
And some you wouldn't know unless you checked...the Mustang previously only had 60% of its parts from the US/Canada. Ford Fusion? Only 30%.

The parts may finally be assembled in America, and the money goes to an American corporation, but don't for a minute think you're getting something truly American. - Ridonkulus, on 03/01/2009, -5/+16...but I'm curious if the new BMW 7 series is more fun than any plus-size sedan has a right to be. It's a pity the article doesn't address this.
- Cr0z, on 03/01/2009, -11/+21Still one ugly ***** though.
- kasted, on 03/01/2009, -11/+18NY times sucks a box of dicks
- Rtibbitts07, on 03/01/2009, -0/+7Not a big fan of the 7 series myself.
- ARTLUKM, on 03/01/2009, -0/+6Looks like The Times pays a pretty penny to get its stories on this site. I guess they haven't realized the only way to prevent people from realizing this is to only submit stories that are passable to hit the front page in the first place. At least DailyMail's stories are sensationalist, so we can at least pretend they naturally hit the front page.
- megawiz, on 03/01/2009, -3/+9what the *****... didnt realize sedans had rights at all...
- muckemuck, on 03/01/2009, -3/+9Will they sell many though? I still see '08s cars (from all brands) on the lots. People aren't buying no matter how nice/fast the car is.
- inactive, on 03/01/2009, -9/+15the current 7 is ugly as sin.
- vawksel, on 03/01/2009, -3/+9I ***** agree. I like BMW's and all, I have an E46 M3 (2005), but this is kinda dumb. Why would the general population of Digg care about a BMW let alone a *7* series, the grandpa-car of all BMW cars.
I guess you CAN buy your way onto the front page, digg is so broken. - inactive, on 03/01/2009, -5/+10They keep on making these uglier and uglier.
- jiqiren, on 03/01/2009, -12/+17How absurd if this somehow makes the front page of Digg. :)
- ElTomacco, on 03/01/2009, -0/+5Who is digging this? I like BMWs and all, but the new 7 series isnt exactly revolutionary. Also, traditional newspapers are known for their bad automotive journalism, which explains why this article reads more like an advertisement than a review.
- syda, on 03/01/2009, -0/+5Free is one thing, $86,000 base is another.
- joe122370, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4they're only a $100k....why not get two
- Darkyuubi, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4And still as ugly.
Christ, I never really liked the new look for BMWs except for maybe the M3 and the M5. But the 7 Series...its ugly by anyones standard. - tmyprod, on 03/01/2009, -2/+6Good thing I have all kinds of money to throw around in today's bountiful economy.
/sarcasm - liquisoft, on 03/01/2009, -2/+6I like BMW's but I'm not sure why this is on digg. Buried out of confusion.
- drifter, on 03/01/2009, -1/+5Wtf does that have to do with anything? so car makers should stop making new cars? they should only sell 08's till they are all gone? how dumb can you be?
- carguy84, on 03/01/2009, -0/+4In all likelihood it will be out in 2011 or 2012. BMW has a 7 year life cycle and new engines usually come in at year 2 or year 4. (330 - 335, 530 - 535, 645 - 650...)
- guyincognitoo, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3I dug it because he said it can help splatter zombies.
- adambadam, on 03/01/2009, -0/+3The original late model 7-series were butt ugly. Especially the early ones before they fixed the look on the back before spreading out the taillights.
- JackpotCity, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Also not completely sold on the new design.
- ARTLUKM, on 03/01/2009, -3/+5Looks like The Times pays a pretty penny to get its stories on this site. I guess they haven't realized the only way to prevent people from realizing this is to only submit stories that are passable to hit the front page in the first place. At least DailyMail's stories are sensationalist, so we can at least pretend they naturally hit the front page.
- Spawn2105, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2I agree, the German competition alone is pulling away from BWM. Mercedes and especially Audi have been very thorough and successful with restyling their cars in my view.
- carguy84, on 03/01/2009, -1/+3Having driven it, I'd say it is at the limit of fun given to it under the 1996 Automotive Rights Act. Not wanting to be fined, BMW scaled back the fun a little by giving it noisey side mirrors, an insane price tag and a complicated shifter. Everything else about it IS pure fun.
HD Video review of the 750Li:
http://www.autospies.com/news/Exclusive-Video-Is-T ... - RudolfDiesel, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2look for a Twin turbo V12 in a year or so- most likely similar to the unit to be used in the new Rolls Royce RR4 (200EX)
- syda, on 03/01/2009, -3/+5But is it more fun then any plus-size model has a right to be?
- nmezib, on 03/01/2009, -2/+4Yes, because in this economy, more people can totally afford to buy this car.
- memper, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2This will be a great mood lifter for the executives who had to wrestle their conscience to lay off thousands and give themselves a raise. A nice Sunday drive among the mcmansions will leave all those troubles behind. Plus it will make quite the impression when they pull into their church parking lot.
- ofenza, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2I think they got it right with the 2002 version but f-ed up with the restyling. Now this one is simply a disaster. I loved the trunk of the 2002 version, very like the 6 series trunk.
What is happening with BMW? Mercedes has been releasing much more interesting cars. - emehrkay, on 03/01/2009, -4/+6Am I the only one who found Bangle's designs to be great? That last gen 7 is a great looking automobile (even the dummed Bangle down versions). Put that thing on 19s and you have a car that commands the road visually.
- pitdog, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2you sir r just being silly
- Fuzi, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2sure i'll take it for free... then trade it for a A8
- designer, on 03/01/2009, -2/+4Damn straight UNION MADE!!!!! Only UNION shops can produce such a great automobile. Oh wait?
- paulmer2003, on 03/01/2009, -3/+5Meh, new 7ers are fugly and lame. Oh, fine, I admit, I am biast.
< owns a E32 740iL - tmyprod, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Only $100k?! ***** it! I'll take eight!
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -1/+3BMWs suck in terms of reliability.
- rhedrick, on 03/01/2009, -1/+3Killing the planet with Bavarian efficiency.
- MustacheFace, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2The plus-size sedan is more willing to do the things a regular size sedan would find gross and uncomfortable.
- dengzhi, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2no, but Ford, GM, etc should definitely slow the production lots.. i mean who in their right mind would buy an american car now?
- Ridonkulus, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2I was quoting the subject...
"The new BMW 7 Series is a delight; faster, nimbler and more fun than any plus-size sedan has a right to be. The 2009 7 Series is such a double delight, whether in standard (750i) or stretched (750Li) guise. Yes, the new 7 is faster, nimbler and more fun than any plus-size sedan has a right to be." - Amazetbm, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1I'm quite happy with my E38 740i.
- emehrkay, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1You hit the nail on the head with the 3 series. The big round lights, strange shape -- they should have let Bangle do his thing with it.
- Demos27, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1My favorite 7er is the e38.
