- badqat, on 02/21/2009, -4/+36It's actually quite catching in person...I approve.
- Zervaman, on 02/21/2009, -1/+22They made it smaller, wider, and added more horsepower. I approve!
- Lou3000, on 02/21/2009, -1/+15Or you could turn it off.
But you will probably get burned off the line with someone using the auto rev matching system. - inactive, on 02/22/2009, -0/+11this is a true sports car. 2 seats. proper 6 speed. light weight. rwd. power.
just wish it had 2 tops like my 90' Z - MixMasterK, on 02/21/2009, -3/+13I actually think it looks significantly better than the current 350z, and it sounds like it has way better handling. I approve.
However, I don't think the automatic rev-matching is a good idea. Sure, go ahead and take all the fun and skill out of driving a stick. Thanks Nissan. - 2ach, on 02/21/2009, -4/+13Hell yea, that ***** looks nice. I'd sport one.
- lovemorgul, on 02/21/2009, -1/+10It's easier to pack now that the rear strut brace has been eliminated.
- ShoGunX900, on 02/21/2009, -1/+10The Z community is pretty strong and ppl are dedicated to them. I wish my 300zx didn't get stolen a few years back :-/
- Baltiman, on 02/22/2009, -0/+6words fail to describe just how cool this car is.
- Xmoneyx9, on 02/21/2009, -3/+9I'd buy one.
- kentifer, on 02/21/2009, -1/+7Like a woman's sports car...
? - 350Zed, on 02/22/2009, -0/+6The G35/37 is not "better" than the 350Z/370Z.
The G is more plush, it's heavier, has a more luxury-oriented interior, and is less eye-catching on the road.
The Z is harder, sharper, lighter, better-handling, and a more focused sports car.
I've owned both, have you? - FeartheKnighted, on 02/21/2009, -0/+6Car and Driver had about the exact same sentiments as you, but after they actually drove the new Z and tested the rev matcher they couldn't stop raving about it. But as lou said, you can always turn it off (or not buy the package that has it in the first place).
- C4Aries, on 02/21/2009, -0/+6Yay quality!
- Sublimin4L, on 02/21/2009, -0/+6So is the GT-R & Maxima. Pictures don't do them justice. Is this a new Nissan marketing strategy?
- Somefoo, on 02/22/2009, -1/+6Not everyone wants to drive a car that looks like it was designed to be attractive to 40 something middle management? Also, it's faster and cheaper.
- Sublimin4L, on 02/21/2009, -1/+6There were some great looking JDM cars of late 90's that didn't make it to some parts of the West, such as the R34 Skyline GT-R & S15 Silvia. Most of the Japanese high performance/sports cars (Supra, R34 Skyline GT-R, RX-7) seem to have ended production in or around 2002. It's like they knew something the West didn't. They seem to have gone the conservative route (in other words, bland). FWD 4-bangers seem to be popular (350Z, S2k, Impreza, GT-R & RX-8 are the exceptions). For example, there are absolutely NO RWD Toyota sports cars (excluding Lexus). I wish they'd have still produced the Supra, R34 GT-R (in the States) & others, except in smaller numbers (so as not to have lots filled with these in times of high gas prices). Screw the FT-HS.
- mmittimm, on 02/22/2009, -0/+5I disagree, they're actually getting back to the traditional Z design. The 370z looks way more like the 280z and first gen 300zx than the second gen 300zx or the 350z did. I saw a picture of a silver 370 recently and it was like looking a modernized version of my silver 300zx(z31).
- klowngoblin, on 02/22/2009, -0/+4G's are for luxury
Z's are for sportiness - ThatGeek, on 02/21/2009, -0/+4say what you will about the rx8's styling, but watch the top gear segment with the rx8 racing around the track, and you wont think its a retarded machine anymore
- Baltiman, on 02/22/2009, -0/+4and? - 'Jap' cars are the best in the world - so that's a good thing
- OpCzar, on 02/21/2009, -1/+5I'm waiting for the RWD Scion TC - spiritual successor to the AE86:
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/08/rwd-scion-tc-co ... - mastersmite, on 02/22/2009, -0/+4the evo and GT-R don't have slushboxes. they have dual clutch transmission which have a pair of electronically controlled clutches, one that worked the odd numbered gears and one on the even numbered gears. a slushbox refers to a normal automatic transmission which uses a hydraulic torque converter instead of a clutch.
- drifter, on 02/21/2009, -0/+4They also added an auto, say what you want about how true sports cars need to be manual etc. Dont give me that ***** even Lambo's and Ferrari's have electronic shifting. Also the fact that the computer can shift faster than a human defeats the whole, being more powerful etc. with a manual.
- JanusTheDoorman, on 02/22/2009, -0/+3Err...
How exactly did this article merit the DETROIT tag? - 350Zed, on 02/22/2009, -0/+3Another STUPID comment.
- wpennb, on 02/22/2009, -0/+3One of the great pleasures in driving is in being able to use clutch, revs, gearchange and brakes in a coordinated fashion. Sure the new double clutch systems may get a faster change, but that's not the point. You drive a sports car for the enjoyment of driving.
Americans only discovered corners in the late 20th century, so driving pleasure is a concept lost on most USA citizens. - 350Zed, on 02/22/2009, -0/+2Actually, it's been moved forward--directly behind the seats. But your point is taken.
- akatsuki, on 02/22/2009, -0/+2I think it is now supposedly a Subaru and rumor says they basically stripped the AWD out of an Impreza.
Shame too, a new lightweight RWD AE86 would rock. - m3arvk, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2You point us to a picture of a racing engine to prove they make V8s? Why don't you point us to their V10 F1 engines while you're at it?
They have V8s in their trucks as well but that's not what we're talking about here - we are talking about mass produced sports cars, my friend not ultra-high end products.
Most of the rest of your response doesn't warrant any attention. - Indiscipline, on 02/22/2009, -0/+2It's for downshifting, not up.
It's not launch control, so no, he won't get burned anywhere. - Sublimin4L, on 02/21/2009, -1/+3Seems to be the popular thing nowadays (at least it'll even HAVE a standard transmission & not a slushbox like the Evo & GT-R). Nannies like rev blips telling you when to shift, downshift rev-matching etc are a pain.
- TheMidnight, on 02/23/2009, -0/+2His mom does taste good.
- Sublimin4L, on 02/22/2009, -0/+2What I don't get, is why rednecks choose to bash foreign cars, but then when they finally decide to try foreign, they go with a Hyundai or Mazda as opposed to Honda or Toyota.
Case in point: a coworker needed an SUV so he thought he'd try foreign after a failing Pontiac. Paid close to $30k for a 4banger Hyundai Tucson and now complains a lot & swears to never buy foreign again. RAV4's start at $23k, Highlander at $27k & Pilot's start at $27k (prices are for 6cyl). Hmm.. - LanceUppercut, on 02/22/2009, -1/+3Very nice car. I would probably still go for the GT-R assuming i was going to blow money on a frivilous car, but i have always loved the 350 and 370 z :)
- Baltiman, on 02/22/2009, -0/+2The only american cars woth buying are the Dodge Sr10 and the ford mustang. However they still dont match janpanese quality.
- m3arvk, on 02/22/2009, -0/+2America makes crappy cars and overpays their auto-workers. Those two are exactly the reasons why our auto-industry is hat-in-hand over in DC asking for multi-billion dollar loans. They've known they were being out-created for _decades_ and chose to sit on their fat asses and do nothing.
I've never owned an American car and probably never will. - 350Zed, on 02/22/2009, -0/+2Except you can buy three Z's for the price of one GT-R.
They address two different markets. - drifter, on 02/23/2009, -0/+1lol i love people like you who make it seem like some magical movement and some magical thing that is so amazing.
Yes, its fun, yes it can be cool, but when you hit traffic 5 days out of the week twice a week you realize its not that cool.
Secondly new cars have tiptronic, with paddle and/or gear shifting. Sure there's no clutch, move your foot then and act like there is.
And are you serious? you do know Americans have been obsessed with vehicles since the start are you forgetting who created the motor vehicle? Yea, a stupid american. - thefreshjive, on 02/22/2009, -0/+1@Indiscipline
You don't always race in a straight line. I'm pretty sure he's referring to racing on a track where downshifting is required. - SDM187, on 02/22/2009, -0/+1niggles??
- uRmyHartBstopR, on 02/23/2009, -0/+1>,> Nissan makes one of the best V6 out there. The VQ series have been on Ward's Top Ten since forever. I think they miss it recently because the GTR was out of the price range. Why would they make a V8 for one car when they mass produce the V6? Beside on a business stand point their V6 is not too mpg consuming and have just enough hp for most of their line up.
Kind of like asking Honda to give up on their inline 4s lol.
For the displacement comment, the VQ have been upped for a while now. From a 3.0 to 3.5 (350z) to 3.7 (370z) and the GTR is a 3.8 I believe. Displacement isn't everything, valve timing is nice too (as well as other technology). If you really want displacement get a vette their LS7 V8s are very nice even with pushrod tech. - klowngoblin, on 02/22/2009, -1/+2except a 4.2 V8 is heavy as ***** and would throw off the balance of the car, do you have any clue about power/weight balance?
the Rx8 has very small displacement but has a light engine, the 350z has a bigger engine but is heavier... guess which one wins on the track?
the evo is based off an economy car yet an RS450 Evo would destroy a 5.7L V8 (vette) on the track.
also maybe you should open your eyes, toyota and nissan do have huge V8s, even honda has a V8

4.0L V8 590HP N/A - AlexanderBlue, on 02/23/2009, -0/+1I've autocrossed, done hot-lapping on road courses, and ice raced. A car with a good manual gearbox, whether with manual or computer controlled clutch(es) is like a true joy to operate. Despite over a dozen tries, I have NEVER found an automatic gearbox, even Porsche Tiptronic, that I liked during spirited driving. They all have annoying idiocyncracies or are downright slow. It needs to shift quickly, cleanly, and right when I tell it to. Even if I have the throttle floored and I'm going through a turn. Let ME decide what's appropriate.
Driving a good sports car with a decent manual tranny is like dancing with a fit and telepathic girl. Driving the same car with an automatic is like dancing with her drunk and not-as-intelligent sister. - mmittimm, on 02/22/2009, -0/+1God I can't wait til summer to take the t's off my z31. It's like torture...
- Sublimin4L, on 02/22/2009, -0/+1@mastersmite: You're absolutely right! Multitasking obviously isn't for everyone.
- m3arvk, on 02/23/2009, -0/+1Agreed. I've owned a Maxima with the 3.0 liter V6. It's a nice engine - no question.
The increase in displacement agrees with what I'm saying. Once they get to a certain point in terms of performance per volume it just make sense to manufacture a V8.
Porsche has been pushing the limits of their 6 cylinders for a long time now. They've boosted the displacement up to 3.8. My point is at a certain point it's just smarter to make a beefy V8 than to keep tinkering with a V6. Torque...torque...torque. - lastmaster, on 02/22/2009, -0/+1Yes, please!
- uRmyHartBstopR, on 02/23/2009, -0/+1yeah, I like the 1970 240z better. But nice car anyway!
