- shivaaa, on 10/23/2009, -4/+35911% better fuel mileage??? 11% is an enormous number.
Holy crap. GM could improve their fleet average with just one car that gets killer mileage.
Prius will be the old look. Dimples will be the new look. Eco people don't mind if their car looks like a hamburger or a golfball. They want to look different. It is a badge of honor.
So the dimple look will become a fashion statement. And its new. People like new. They have a huge discovery here!!!! - shifty50fs, on 10/23/2009, -6/+327Simpsons did it first: "These are speed holes. They make the car go faster."
- MakanGuru, on 10/23/2009, -11/+317*waits for first dimpled Nascar*
- sodaseven, on 10/23/2009, -1/+257If I had that car all it would do is slice to the right side of the road.
- wampalord, on 10/23/2009, -3/+236This was a good episode, considering that they didn't get to blow anything up.
Also the hangover myth was hilarious. - Brassbud, on 10/23/2009, -1/+209Man, the VW Golf has a lock on this market.
- OmicronNine, on 10/23/2009, -0/+142Yes, but unfortunately they make the ladies run faster too.
- Diggnabbit, on 10/23/2009, -3/+139They're called "speed holes," Marge.
- stoanhart, on 10/23/2009, -1/+133That's neat. I wonder if there will be dimply airplanes in the future?
- diggB, on 10/23/2009, -1/+129They don't have the balls to do it.
- DivineMonkey, on 10/23/2009, -3/+118"Waits for first dimpled F1 car".
- VVCephei, on 10/23/2009, -2/+108That guy ***** hurled before the chair even started spinning
Thumbs up. - KungFooJesus, on 10/23/2009, -0/+104If they could only iron out the details.
- Amlethus, on 10/23/2009, -1/+92They'd need a really good driver to advertise it.
- TrunksTheMighty, on 10/23/2009, -2/+88Really? I thought it looked kinda cool.
- palehorse864, on 10/23/2009, -0/+85I would love to drive the clay car before it had dimples. I got a good laugh when they finished it and made it look so perfect.
I would name it the Ford Adobe and tell anyone who asked that I bought it second hand from Wallace and Grommit. - fahrvergnuugen, on 10/23/2009, -0/+82An ass built for speed
- dragonlink2, on 10/23/2009, -2/+80It'd be worth a lot of green.
- M4xMcLeod, on 10/23/2009, -1/+78It's a hole different market.
- justinlarsen, on 10/23/2009, -0/+70haha ya, if you have watched most of the episodes as I have you would know Grant has a very low tolerance for that chair. He has puked on several episodes with myths involving it.
- lyonsban, on 10/23/2009, -1/+70Airplanes are a lifting body, including the fuselage these days. They use and require the pressure effects (what they called drag in the video) to keep them in the air. It's not like a car.
- keith22, on 10/23/2009, -1/+69Does that mean my acne scars make me a faster runner?
- danr2c2, on 10/23/2009, -1/+67It'd be a fairway to get ahead in this rough market.
- NOZZLeS, on 10/23/2009, -2/+62You go right ahead...
- lcg9q3, on 10/23/2009, -0/+59Yeah, I see this blowing up. Dimples are the new black. Can't wait to upgrade to a pimped out dimpler. /s
- dryekindrew, on 10/23/2009, -1/+59It's a long shot, but it might work.
- NeddieSeagoon, on 10/23/2009, -2/+59If they ever manufacture a car like that, it will be a real bastard to polish.
- FormerBabby, on 10/23/2009, -4/+59*waits for dimpled ass*
- chalms04, on 10/23/2009, -2/+55Now do you go with the fore cylinder gas or diesel?
- proliance, on 10/23/2009, -0/+51No, I think pretty much everybody understands that.
- zeebo, on 10/23/2009, -4/+54There will be a rule against it as soon as somebody does it and wins. NASCAR cannot allow any technological advance that might demonstrate that any car is better than full size sedans that nobody wants to buy anymore.
- coldfire87, on 10/23/2009, -4/+51Seems like a hell of a advertising opportunity for golfing companies...
- dvsbastard, on 10/23/2009, -0/+47http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids. ...
(Sorry about the myspace video link, but it was the first link I found...) - Bologner, on 10/23/2009, -4/+48Golf.
- iwashere2, on 10/23/2009, -0/+44Next time it hails i'm leaving my car out. ;-)
- dave122, on 10/23/2009, -3/+47They're speed holes flanders.
- SirBruce, on 10/23/2009, -0/+42I bet they'll just putter along with their current models for a few more years.
- trevor1617, on 10/23/2009, -9/+49Well now your jsut giving kids on your street something to aim for.
- crossmr, on 10/23/2009, -11/+49They have a single test..
- ApokalypseNow, on 10/23/2009, -1/+39Actually, it could be because he's Asian! People of Asian descent typically have a lower body mass, so there's less of them for the alcohol to pollute. Further, people of Asian (and other ethnic heritages) tend to have lower levels of alcohol dehydrogenases. In fact, some people of East Asian and Native American descent completely lack the genetically coded enzyme that allows them to fully digest alcohol - this is why they turn red after a couple drinks, from their bodies reactions to first stage metabolic breakdown of alcohol that they can't deal with.

- Xaevier, on 10/23/2009, -5/+42Does this mean we should take a hammer to our cars and create golf ball sized dings?
- Gudeldar, on 10/23/2009, -1/+37Actually they did 5 control tests and 5 experimental tests. Still not a huge sample size but they did do more than one.
- RichGC, on 10/23/2009, -0/+34I did some searching, and this has a technical explanation, near the bottom:

Other reasons mentioned else where issues with stress tolerances, manufacturing, maintenance, and repairs.
Interestingly, there is someone selling stuff called dimple tape to be stuck on propellers, but a thesis and trials stated it to actually make things worse. - JBizness, on 10/23/2009, -3/+32That's incorrect.
The dimples on the ball produce MORE turbulent flow over the ball. Turbulent flow tends to "stick" to the surface of the ball better than laminar flow. A smooth ball, as it flies through the air, creates a vacuum behind the ball that is roughly the same diameter of the ball. Because a dimpled ball creates turbulent flow, flow separation doesn't occur at the ball's largest diameter. Instead, it's sticks to the ball longer and the vacuum created behind the dimpled ball is smaller. The vacuum behind the ball creates a pressure drag behind the ball, so the smaller it is the better. They're engineers with special effects experience who test various myths for entertainment purposes. That's all. That being said, they're often more thorough in their data gathering than it appears on the show.
- thegrantman, on 10/23/2009, -2/+30Stop watching porn in HD.
- Perk, on 10/23/2009, -1/+27I'm sure VW will tees the concept at an autoshow, but it'll never make it to market. Caddy on the other hand...
- feelmypimphand, on 10/23/2009, -1/+25Fake. My girlfriends cottage cheese ass has more dimples than the car. I don't seem to be getting any extra mileage out of it.
- RunOut, on 10/23/2009, -1/+25You must be a blast at parties
