- macmcraeart, on 07/10/2009, -0/+18those are some of the most useless pictures I have ever seen. Show me the car dammit!!!!111!!
- zeiben, on 07/10/2009, -0/+9Wow. not one picture of the actual car.
- wohho, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7I think that's what it is, unless i'm misinterpreting "seven-speed dual-clutch transmission "
- wohho, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4That doesn't make any sense. The McLaren F1 had nothing to do with Mercedes, it was a BMW-engined car, it had a mid engine, three-person layout that was unprecidented and McLaren had never built that level of supercar before. At no point in your rambling, incoherent comment were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
- wohho, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4I don't know how I feel about this. The 300 SL is one of the great cars of all time, It was built at a time when Germany was just recovering from the war, it was a perfect storm of form following function. The gullwing doors weren't there because they were neat, but because the complex and delicate tube chassis required them. A version was driven to victory by none other than Stirling Moss.
This new one will undoubtedly be an awesome machine, but Mercedes is taking a big chance leveraging one of it's most treasured historical assets. - asgardshill, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3I would have preferred to see the entire car instead of just the isolated snippets shown at the linked web site.
Not buried but not enthusiastically Dugg either. - windsorlad111, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3We use the ML500 for shopping.
- Jektal, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Buy less food. Walk to the store. Have more than one car.
Happy now? - x00x, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3
This link provides the absolutely coolest imagery of a gull-winged Mercedes in 3d Virtual Reality. You can view th interior, the exterior in full 360 degree view and even operate the gull-winged doors by clicking on the handle dragging the doors to open and close.

- rizzo2008, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3I stand corrected never mind...from early sources I thought I read 7 speed automatic but a dual clutch transmission is certainly a step in the right direction.
- Jektal, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Now if you can only master the Reply button...
- noizeuk, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2cheers, yes i think i did lol. well all well and good rectifying that one, shame some people seem to waste time and effort tying to be funny on things no one cares about.

I get it now, man rizzo2008 you almost sounded like you knew what you were talking about for a second there. - FredFredrickson, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2I kept thinking the same thing... how annoying is it that they show every other little piece of the car, but they never bothered to step back and take a shot of the entire car?
Answer: very. - Vesuvias, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1Noizeuk, many Diggers believe that they have some wit, but reality is that in the 5 minutes it took for them to come up with something, wit had already packed up and left for the train station. =)
- rizzo2008, on 07/09/2009, -1/+2This car will no doubt be fantastic but why can't AMG just build a real stick and clutch transmission? I mean really a slushbox in a 571 hp car? At the very least they could have created a double clutch gearbox, or robotized paddle shifter manual gearbox like Ferrari.
- Jektal, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Are those really powered doors with linear actuators, or just shocks to cushion the motion? I'd expect powered doors on a Mercedes (can you even reach the door?), but I'm not convinced that these photos show any evidence of that.
- Vesuvias, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Such a cocktease those AMG folk are...
- FauOz, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1The 300SL is my alltime fav. BUT what will Mercedes say when the Nissan GT-R blows the SLs doors off at 1/3 the cost?
- Majora26, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1exactly what i was thinking
- gconsier, on 07/10/2009, -0/+0But I think he is right... Looks to me like it's a up up down down up up car..
ugh.
and for the record Mercedes does still build "stick and clutch" cars... Just not for the states..
Rented a brand new 300 turbo diesel in Germany 2 years ago... Manual 6 spd ... *with* a manual on the floor clutch. - noizeuk, on 07/10/2009, -3/+1They done the same with the McLaren F1 roadcar, so nothing new...
- EverybodyPanic, on 07/10/2009, -4/+0Once you are done pretending to be a race driver, you come to realization that your expensive luxury car does not have enough space to put the grocery bags.

What is Digg?
