- emecks, on 06/22/2009, -7/+42Is it just me or will cops in dinky little pink cars not be taken seriously?
- ApokalypseNow, on 06/22/2009, -3/+26Complaint 1: cannot fit most shotguns into standard racks due to low ceiling.
Complaint 2: cannot fit most cops into standard seats due to space constraints in all other dimensions. - therealweenis, on 06/22/2009, -0/+19Damnit, and to think, OJ could have been chased in his Bronco by a bazillion Mini's.
Coulda been the best Police chase, ever. - Zaxcomp, on 06/22/2009, -0/+14How can you fail to read but still manage to type?
- CoD4, on 06/22/2009, -0/+13If you __________ they'll ***** you up
- Solkre, on 06/22/2009, -0/+11Or like maybe, I dunno... $10
- Brassbud, on 06/22/2009, -1/+12I find Minis to be roomy in the front seat at the expense of the rear seat. So as long as you aren't planning on arresting anyone it should be fine...
- bigpappapunk, on 06/22/2009, -1/+11don't worry, it's LAPD. If you mock the ride they'll ***** you up
- sinurgy, on 06/22/2009, -1/+10Eh this is probably a good thing, LAPD needs a good penis shrinking!
- AubieTurtle, on 06/22/2009, -1/+10Unless something big has changed since I lived in LA, the City of Los Angeles Police Department is a totally different organization than the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Also note from the article that these cars are going to be used by recruitment units, outreach units, administrative groups, etc. There was nothing in the article about patrol officers using them.
- jsuther, on 06/22/2009, -0/+9Or end the prohibition on drugs and the gangs will lose all of their funding from the black market and will disband because they can't complete in the market place.
- thectrain, on 06/22/2009, -1/+9It is not violent to have bullet proof windows or to drive a hummer. It may be stupid to drive a hummer, but not violent.
- s73v3r, on 06/22/2009, -0/+8Except there are many different sources of electric energy, including many that are very clean (solar, wind, wave generation, etc). Oil is pretty much always going to be oil.
- eclaires, on 06/22/2009, -3/+10I object to the comment that the Cooper is "tragically un-hip" (can you tell what I drive?).
- mogebier, on 06/22/2009, -14/+21Wow. As if LA cops don't have a crappy enough job, now they will be laughed at wherever they go.
Nice job some bureaucrat is doing.
I think kickbacks are involved somewhere. - Bmarofsky, on 06/22/2009, -1/+8I love it: "Working to Mini-mize Crime!"
http://gas2.org/2009/06/22/los-angeles-sheriffs-ge ... - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6Penn also describes it as "stripper-inner-labia-pink."
- Richandler, on 06/22/2009, -0/+66'6" Penn Jillette's main car is a mini and he says it's fine.
- Brassbud, on 06/22/2009, -1/+7He would've just backed up and run them over.
- gadgetboy32, on 06/22/2009, -2/+8What can you do when the state has no money? it's this or a bicycle.
- duk0r, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6Straight from the artice in the first sentence: "Approved on Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will lease the MINI Es for only $10 a month."
"$10 bucks a month." Not $800.
Reading FTW! - kromix, on 06/22/2009, -2/+7Read the ***** article.
MINI is leasing them the cars for $10/mo with all services/repairs/maintenance included.
***** don't even read the article, read the ***** DESCRIPTION, its in there. - borez, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5Coopers for coppers
- AlKo, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5Took one out for a spin last week (yes, one of the actual test eMINIs...) nice car but the auto-brake of the regenerative system takes getting used to. Feels like a slightly heavier Cooper with more torque though it'd definitely be more useful in city areas than as highway patrol.
Probably would be used as a PR car... can't really see where you could put all the equipment cops use in it... the entire back seat is taken by batteries and fans. - jsuther, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5Only on a straight away. The mini will out handle a Camry.
- mtdna, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5What about all those cops I see on Segways? For them, this will be a big step up!
No more getting pushed over by little old ladies. - liuite, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4wouldn't it take a mini copper to fit in a mini cooperr?
- Valyn, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Outside of the idea of cops in electric mini's... As far as the general idea goes though, I really think things like this would be great way to advertise. Let a car company pay for the government vehicles in return for the advertising potential.
- drallo, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4READ you ignorant *****, jesus christ.
READ. - skiingpowder10, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4in Paris , the cops drive around in little cars and they roam with a full car of 4 cops cramped in
- drallo, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Yeah, remember that time the LAPD hurled their V8 at the bank robbers to stop them?
- Inceptious, on 06/22/2009, -3/+7you ***** americans are the reason why few people use electric cars. you created a social stigma. look at all the comments, laughing at them. its just sad :(
- asgardshill, on 06/22/2009, -1/+5Give 'em to the meter maids.
- drallo, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4HOW DARE THE POLICE USE YOUR TAX DOLLARS.
*****, get over yourself douche. - andrewlotta, on 06/22/2009, -1/+5I know why...but why?
- Mothh, on 06/22/2009, -2/+5Even with their lights on, I probably won't see them in my F150.
- dazparkour, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3Not reading the article is something we've all grown used to but missing the summary... are you from YouTube?
- Richandler, on 06/22/2009, -2/+5***** BMW! $10 a month for feedback!? I'll lease it for $20 a month and give you feed back screw the cops.
- chriswastaken, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3Funny how you comment about better mileage on an ELECTRIC CAR. Mileage is done as miles per charge which I hear on this version of the Mini is between 250 - 310 miles but I can't really be certain on those numbers.
- centran, on 06/22/2009, -1/+4That is becuase they won't be using them for patrol.
The things don't have four doors. It would be impossible to use them for patrol. They wouldn't be able to arrest anyone and put them in those cars. - leto78, on 06/22/2009, -1/+4MINIs are considered extremely cool in Europe. They are a CHICK MAGNET. People that buy MINIs are the same that buy Apple products. They are very fast and agile and the electric version will probably have and neck-breaking acceleration due to the high torque of electric engines.
The expression "buy American" is terribly close-minded. Americans buy Chinese because it is cheap and they buy European because it is high quality (probably made by a very boring German with extreme attention to details).
In order to buy American, it has to have some advantage, like price or quality or something else (being BIG is not an advantage) - Syraxis, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3I've got it! Perhaps gang members can be "reasoned with".
/s - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -1/+4You're just sad you're tragically un-hip. :p
- digg4peace, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2They are mostly driving Prius now any way, but electric would be better, the Beverly Hills DARE cops are driving Smart Cars too
- titlesaysitall, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2I am morally offended by your tinted windows! Hiding something the public shouldn't know eh?
- genepooldesign, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2*****! They're Cooper Minis Not Mini Coopers!
- PenisBreath, on 06/22/2009, -1/+3You realise that now?
- borez, on 06/22/2009, -1/+3Agreed, those F150 pedal cars are mighty small.
- reichec, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2I do work for a BMW engineer. He drove one to our shop in NJ a month ago. He says the thing hauls ass.
- crilen007, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2I tried to put that to the song, but it just wasn't possible.
