- masudnets, on 04/29/2009, -2/+28Pontiac: You will be long remembered!
- googooly, on 04/29/2009, -4/+29I dont get why the ***** Pontiac. If GM want to save money cancel Buick or Hummer
- anothrnbdy, on 04/29/2009, -0/+21Hummer did get the axe.
- escottberg, on 04/29/2009, -0/+19My best friend's first car was a Pontiac -- she was one of the first to get her driver's license, too...so many good memories!
- ATL, on 06/20/2009, -1/+18wow she must be very old to be one of the first to get a driver license
- Fletchnuts, on 04/29/2009, -1/+11Did anyone else not dig his writing style? It seems broken up and poorly paced to me.
- cooterthekid, on 04/29/2009, -0/+10If Buick was gone all the old people would be walking.
- PostedOval, on 04/29/2009, -0/+8Absolutely! If you ever watch his JayLenosGarage.com episodes, the guy is as big a car fan as anybody else on the planet. He just happens to be rich enough to actually OWN them. I love the fact that he drives every single one of them and doesn't believe that classic cars should be kept in a museum.
- Demos27, on 04/29/2009, -3/+11The old GTO is the only reason why I'll remember Pontiac, back when they had made decent cars.
- LanceUppercut, on 04/29/2009, -0/+7tell us how you really feel.
- zeebo323, on 04/29/2009, -2/+9I am SO SAD! I totaled my 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix yesterday morning ... I rear-ended a special ed bus. Bye bye Pontiac. :(
- oriondr, on 04/29/2009, -0/+6Why isn't Jay Leno hosting Top Gear US?
- erix84, on 04/29/2009, -1/+7He'd like to see the Solstice get saved as a Chevy?
It's practically the same thing as the Saturn Sky... except the Sky looks better (in my opinion). But he mentions the Firebird just competing with the Camaro. - Homerr, on 04/29/2009, -2/+8I think GM should be one brand - Chevrolet. The stupid corporate-think is part of their entire problem. Thinking that small cars should be Geo's, Saturn's should pamper hip buyers, Cadillacs are for old people, etc. is all crap. Why can't the Chevy brand do all of the above? Why create a new brand (with all of the overhead and dealership issues) for each niche instead of focusing on the core brand and making it the best?
While we're at it Chrysler might as well be Dodge and Ford be Ford. - javiero, on 04/29/2009, -0/+6they turk ur jurbsss
- charlietuna, on 04/29/2009, -1/+7Does it really matter which chrome plated zinc medallion is slapped on a GMC product?
They could bring Pontiac back in three years -- that is if GM is still a viable firm. - itc518, on 04/29/2009, -0/+5One of my first cars was also a Pontiac, a Sunbird actually and it was a great car. So long Pontiac!
- LanceUppercut, on 04/29/2009, -0/+5I like my Vibe gt, but then again it is basically a toyota matrix.
I would love to have a newer GTO, that seems like a fun car. - bluerei, on 04/29/2009, -0/+5NBC chose not to pick up the show.
- richardweaver, on 04/29/2009, -0/+5Tis' a sad day.
- skinrock, on 04/29/2009, -1/+6Should be a good indicator of how many jokes he really writes.
- ChillEnt, on 04/29/2009, -0/+5I won't remember you.
- Anand999, on 04/29/2009, -0/+4Buicks sell like hotcakes in China. That is one big reason why they're keeping that brand alive.
- CoronaVegas, on 04/29/2009, -0/+41985 Pontiac Fiero, best car I have ever owned.
- PostedOval, on 04/29/2009, -0/+4I would agree. The Solstice just doesn't look right in the front. It kinda looks cheap. The Saturn Sky is bolder and sharper... It just looks faster and more expensive.
- acknotSW, on 04/29/2009, -0/+4I've owned 4 Pontiacs in my life, 3 new, 1 used, all great cars. Yes, I'm sure some people had ***** Pontiacs as well. Buying a car, even a new one of any brand, is and always will be a crap shoot.
The truth of the matter is that, for the most part, Pontiacs were nothing more then Chevy's with slightly different body styles and IMO anyway, nicer interiors. It was time for one of them to go, and Chevy has always been a bigger brand then Pontiac so it's not much of a surprise.
Goodbye Pontiac, your cars never stranded me in a parking lot or on the side of the road. - nutmac, on 04/29/2009, -0/+4Most of the GM brands lost their unique personality long ago. GM's subsidiaries that cater to US consumers are Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Daewoo, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac, Saab, and Saturn. Of these, only Cadillac, Hummer, and Saab have distinct personality. The rest should merge into one or two brands, with best-of-its-breed models NOT competing against one another.
- swift535, on 04/29/2009, -0/+3Guess you missed the part in the article about Buick getting the reliability award
- kingcam, on 04/29/2009, -0/+3Haha. My Dad sells cars, one day we were out for a ride in an Aztec demo that he was driving at the time. We came to a stop beside another Aztec at a light. Thinking this to be too great of a coincidence my Dad said "Watch this," then quickly made eye-contact with the other drive and lowered his window. When the other chap did the same the following banter could be heard:
"So, I guess you sell cars?"
"Ya, you too right?"
"Of course, no one else would buy one of these!" - derherr, on 04/30/2009, -0/+3Well, at least you could catch a ride after the accident.
/I keed! - Chirp08, on 04/30/2009, -0/+3Go ***** yourself.
- PostedOval, on 04/29/2009, -0/+3Quite possibly one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen. The 1st time I saw one on the road, I was STUNNED somebody actually bought it. To each their own, I suppose...
- AceyS, on 04/29/2009, -0/+3Funny how we take for granted the above average writing level of most writers out there. It's like I heard once, even if you think an actor is horrible, the fact that you know their name means they are pretty talented.
- winmywii, on 04/29/2009, -0/+3I agree that GM need less brands, but branding a Caddy as a Chevy will severely damage the image of the cars. Pontiac and Chevy competed against each other and for the most part they were the same cars. Cadillac is the luxury class and they should keep it that way. just like Nissan/Infiniti, Honda/Acura, Toyato,Lexus etc.
- TheGreatHambino, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2That was my first car as well. Nearly indestructible j-body.
- erix84, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2Yeah I like the Sky, saw one at the Cleveland car show the first year it was out. I like the styling better than the Solstice and that's saying something, I don't really care for Saturns.
- Clinojim, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2It's a cool little car too, small, relatively light, 260 hp with the optional motor and most important of all, rear wheel drive!
- Demos27, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2But it will still make it to cable I believe.
- masamunecyrus, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2One of the reasons Japan is a superpower today is because shortly after WWII, they sent diplomats all over the world to find the best systems in every country so that they could try to rebuild their country with those systems.
Unfortunately, America has never liked the idea of copying other systems that work well, instead opting for failing American systems (public schools, anyone?). Maybe it's time to start.
Japanese car manufacturers do very well for themselves with a regular brand name and a luxury brand name. For instance, Honda and Acura, Toyota and Lexus, Nissan and Infinite. This could easily be applied to American manufacturers to get rid of the redundancy in cars and to consolidate all of the quality into a small few brands. Other than that, other foreign manufacturers that are doing well simply have just one brand. No one else has even near the amount of brands that American companies have.
For instance,
Ford and Lincoln
GM should go into Chevy and Cadillac
The unnecessary brands:
Mercury, Buick, GMC, Hummer, Opel, Saab, Saturn
As for Chrysler... Well, Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler are near the bottom of the quality charts year after year. It's probably time for them to go. - molochi, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2You left out Volvo, Mazda, Aston Martin, Daewoo, Holden, Vauxhall and Wuling(???).
Looks like Chrysler is Fiat's problem now. They should just make Dodge Ram Pickups, Chrysler 300s, and PT- Cruisers - skinrock, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2"GM already has a very exciting car—the Chevrolet Corvette. And if you need another one, you've got the Camaro." But as he stated, the G8 was very promising, a truly serious 4 door sports sedan. Now we don't have that unless they decide to actually update the Impala on the Zeta platform and drop an LS3 in it.
- winmywii, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2How about the CTS-V?
- kingcam, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2He said he refused because he would have a hard time being impartial when judging cars.
- swift535, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2The Saturn version does look better, although I don't think that one can be marketed as a GM vehicle.
Reason being, GM plans to stop supplying Saturn with vehicles in 2011 when the plan is for Saturn to become independent. If Saturn is no longer going to be a part of the GM family, the only other option is to market the Pontiac version. - Chirp08, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2He said he didn't want to ***** up a good thing, he couldn't meet the expectations that the EU show set.
- Mike17102, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2I drove one, cant say I was a huge fan. I just dont like a car that has to rely on a turbo for so much of its power, because turbo lag sucks. It was also pretty damn expensive new, considering I paid about 1/3 the new price for a car that could blow its doors off.
I do think the Sky looks better too. - Mike17102, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2I feel the same way.
But ***** me if I would drive a Saturn. - duke, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2If you're going to save any version, save the Opel GT.
- Hockey37, on 04/29/2009, -0/+2They may look like ass, but they ride amazingly well.
A friend from high school, her dad owned a Pontiac/GMC dealer. She brought an Aztek out one night right when they first came out. We drove it around that night, and it was one of the smoothest rides of any car. - inactive, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1Riiiiight, look who is asking for bailouts and are on the verge of going into bankruptcy and going out of business. You people are is such deep denial that you don't even see that the big three have been driven into the dirt by inept executives that still are pulling down million dollar bonuses on top of million dollar salaries and benefits packages. Hey, it is time you wake up and see that you are about to go out of business.
