- NorrisOBE, on 04/12/2009, -2/+9I didn't know there was a car brand called "Jagaur".
- NoNameWorks, on 04/12/2009, -0/+7we're talking about jaguar here
- Kahlnen, on 04/12/2009, -1/+7When do we get electric cars that the average person can afford?
Why don't companies start investing in entry-level electric cars rather than luxury cars? - Emachine, on 04/12/2009, -1/+5The Jag is even better because it will have a diesel generator which is more suited for the job. The Volt should have had a diesel generator too, if Americans weren't such dieselphobes.
- supersonicjim, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4Where do you think the energy comes from to make the hydrogen?
- wendelgee2, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4way to think big and reach for the stars, timmy.
- fury420, on 04/12/2009, -0/+4because the average person demands something similar to what they consider a "car" now, and to give the acceleration/responsiveness people expect of cars in the US, safety equipment so it'll survive on the road with vintage full size cars/trucks, and a range in excess of 75 miles requires at least $10-15k worth of batteries alone, likely more if you want a 4-5 seater
- c010rb1indusa, on 04/12/2009, -1/+5I like Jags, a lot of people dismiss them for being poorly made or not up to par with BMW and Mercedes but I have a friend who had an XJ from a few years ago, thing was classy, fast, and had one of the best sound systems I've ever heard in a vehicle. Best of luck to them.
- Gustomucho, on 04/12/2009, -0/+4Gotta love typos going front page.. learn to f*ing type.
- fury420, on 04/12/2009, -0/+3yeah, but the "watered down crap" the average joe gets for cheap from a conventional car still has 5 seats, a max speed of 75mph or higher and a very long maximum range...
i do not know if consumers would want to purchase a $10-15k electric car that could not go further than 75miles on a charge or faster than 40mph and only seats two... i doubt enough of them would to make it economically viable - wpyh, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3Jagaur... NOKLA... SUMSANG...
- factsahoy, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3Tesla didn't exactly "deliver." Squeezing out a few cars at over $100,000 each is not much better than vaporware.
- sfriedlander, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3GM fails when met with Competition
- akchrs, on 04/12/2009, -3/+6Lets hope Dodge puts a supercharger on the Hemi Challenger for 2010.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3yes. And the same guys who supply software support for Ferrari F1, Are Distributors for Fiat, Ferrari and Maserati in India, own one of the biggest Steel Companies, Owns Virtually 60% of the worlds Tea Supply, And is the biggest software company in India. TATA is one of the most kick ass companies you will ever come across and have the most humble management team you will ever meet. America can learn a thing or two from them.
- buzzard67, on 04/12/2009, -3/+5I am sure glad the VOLT is becomming a trend setter. I cannot wait for the average joe to be able to choose from a ev malibu or ev tercel @ the used car lot.
- inactive, on 04/12/2009, -2/+4Thats the idea. Free energy. Zero emissions. And its not just for rich folks now.
- JayBabs, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2I understand most of our power comes from coal, but if there is was proper policies in place, implicating wider use of alt. energy, then we are onto something big. I hope the push for electric cars will cultivate an upward surge in policies for alt. energies. We shall see.
- EnergyGeekCa, on 04/12/2009, -1/+3Lets hope the Chrysler electric Minivan and other line of electric cars come on the scene soon. Rumor has it 2010 is when Chrysler will have some hitting showrooms.
- MisteR2, on 04/12/2009, -0/+2A 240Z conversion would be kinda fun. Especially if you can sneak a supercapacitor into the build. I would also think you could sneak a small generator on board and make a homemade hybrid, if you make the battery pack itself small enough. (20-40 mile range) To me, anything past a Z32 would have too much to deal with in the way of electronics.
- cyrusuncc, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2Yes, it was a spin off from the Atari Jaguar.
- Duffle, on 04/12/2009, -0/+2Once the technology has been put in expensive cars, it will make its way down to affordable ones. Just like SSDs in computers, they have high initial cost because of low production and R&D costs.
- drifter, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I'm sure all Diggers will suddenly say they love Jag etc. The company has gone downhill, sure they might make decent cars again, but honestly I'm not paying over $30k for a car when it cant even compete with a BMW.
- rdmorley, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2I wish they would focus on hydrogen and not electric vehicles...where do you think the energy is coming from that is going to charge these cars? Assuming we aren't about to shift towards our energy coming from natural sources such as solar, wind, etc. the environment will still be damaged in the end.
- rheaume, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1The big picture? Make lots of ***** money? Maybe YOU dont get their big picture
- Flytrap, on 04/12/2009, -0/+1No! Like the XJ luxury saloon
- mmittimm, on 04/12/2009, -1/+2***** Jaguars. Make a battery powered Z!
- TheThirdLevel, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2Jaguar affordable value?
I debated whether to bury you for stupidity or digg you so everyone can see your idioticness. - ideaash, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Isn't Jaguar owned by TATA motor of India? The folks who make that 2000 $ car!!
- bandoni, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Anyone who has worked on a jag (at least the older xj series) knows that they are just plagued with electrical problems this has fail written all over it.
- factsahoy, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Why not put its fat ass on a diet, instead?
- spiffyfitz, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I was going to defend mmittimm's point, but then you got him too good, wendelgee.
- factsahoy, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1He's thinking of the CJ: civilian Jeep.
- mmittimm, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I've wanted to do that to my Z31 since I got it. Those batteries aren't cheap though.
- Mockylock, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I pray that Jaguar redeems its name after gaining a new owner. Ford completely ***** everything they had. My mother-in-law had a couple of the Ford owned versions and they were garbage.
- bombula, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1USA! USA! USA!
Wait, what? - quarkde, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1"extended-range"? I want fully electric, damn it!
- e4digg, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1This is a good step, but I don't think it's the step that the EV industry needs. This will be a beautiful car and it will be very capable, however it is going to have a very lofty price tag to go along with it. Toyota is making an EV for about $20k that it's looking to market in the next few years - something affordable and something from a major auto maker is just what the industry needs to take off.
I completed an electric car conversion myself last summer - all in all I spent about $5k. It serves it's purpose well. If I were to put another $5k into batteries, my little conversion would rival all the electric cars coming from the major auto makers. You can see my project at http://www.zerogasoline.com - factsahoy, on 04/13/2009, -0/+0One part of the trend we can do without is the huge, jutting plastic jaw.
- inactive, on 04/12/2009, -1/+1Build a cheap one, dammit.
- Soyea, on 04/12/2009, -2/+2hey the rich always get safer, better looking, the average joe gets the watered down crap.
- snickysnack, on 04/13/2009, -1/+0Jaguars are horrible.
- jmarbach, on 04/13/2009, -3/+2Jaguar needs to be following Telsa Motors, not GM who is failing to deliver.
- mmittimm, on 04/12/2009, -3/+2What idea? The battery powered LUXURY car? Expensive solar panels? I would say those are ONLY available to rich folks.
- DeluxeLunchbox, on 04/12/2009, -5/+1XJ? Like the Jeep?
