- wohho, on 03/16/2008, -32/+10there is a god! hello chevy, please be so kind as to take this silverado in exchange for an el camino, thank you.
- CaptainTater, on 03/16/2008, -2/+2Ummm... it's a Pontiac.
- Y2JCrisis, on 03/16/2008, -1/+6The same company makes Pontiacs and Chevys...
- Ub3rL33ch, on 03/16/2008, -2/+2You're a ***** moron. Go look up General Motors.
- legoalert33, on 03/16/2008, -1/+6Please include logic in your next comment.
- Ebeniz, on 03/16/2008, -1/+1I agree.. i don't want ANYTHING with the word Pontiac on it... This isn't an El Camino.... It's also not the first truck/car to come out lately.. Look up the Subaru BAJA
- rand0mm0nkey, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1They screwed the Baja. It coulda been cool. There are also offerings from cadillac, honda, mercury...
- CaptainTater, on 03/16/2008, -2/+2Ummm... it's a Pontiac.
- ngc1976, on 03/16/2008, -9/+21This ute is our Second Coming.

- JakePM, on 03/16/2008, -11/+41funny stuff. it's great how our society goes through phases - accepting, then shunning and now this thing will fit in great again! GO GM
- LongShlong, on 03/16/2008, -18/+13I don't know... I've always shunned this white trash abomination, and I will surely not stop now. When I see this car, I think of thin prepubescent mustaches, greasy hair (mullet-stylings, of course), scrawny rat-like men wearing tight scruffy jeans and dirty leather jackets.
- nogami, on 03/16/2008, -15/+8Yup, this is truly one of the ugliest cars ever. Really giving the PT cruiser and the Aztec a run for their money there...
- hiikeeba, on 03/16/2008, -8/+2But remember, the greatest President ever (Clinton) had one complete with an astro turf bed liner. At least he said he did. He could have been lying to make him appear more appealing to rednecks.
- JustFender, on 03/16/2008, -0/+3Don't judge a cover by its book
- noahhoward, on 03/16/2008, -1/+14When I see the username LongSlong I think of a really insecure guy who inexplicably dislikes inanimate objects.
- LongShlong, on 03/16/2008, -5/+1Yes, let's pick on my name, something totally unrelated to what I said along with what this topic is about. Way to stay on point, dummy.
Allow me to reiterate, the car looks like *****. Care to comment?- franklymister, on 03/16/2008, -1/+6You're a humorless killjoy who cannot appreciate the awesomeness of EL CAMINO.
Run, hide from my moustache!
- franklymister, on 03/16/2008, -1/+6You're a humorless killjoy who cannot appreciate the awesomeness of EL CAMINO.

- eclectro, on 03/16/2008, -0/+2All of which, at the time of your disgust, was actually in style. And now, all those things are in style once again, and you are disgusted again. QED. Dude, you're out of phase with trends. I had to mod you down for the white trash slight.
- nogami, on 03/16/2008, -15/+8Yup, this is truly one of the ugliest cars ever. Really giving the PT cruiser and the Aztec a run for their money there...
- LeeSoong, on 03/16/2008, -5/+7Is GM producing a Hybrid / Solar / FlexFuel / or Hydrogen powered El Camino ?
IF not, please GM, just leave the future cars to the Japanese and Korean automakers.
Gas is projected to be $5 a gallon minimum by the end of the summer '08 - maybe sooner.
Yet Another low mileage car?
Might as well come out with the 6000 SUX.
DO NOT WANT.- amirbakari, on 03/16/2008, -0/+5It will most likely get better gas milage thatn most pickups or suvs around today though.
Not too bad in my book, at least you can work with it.
- amirbakari, on 03/16/2008, -0/+5It will most likely get better gas milage thatn most pickups or suvs around today though.
- shotgunefx, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1You know, I always thought the El Camino was unfairly maligned, and while I think it's cool they are bringing it back, I wonder how it will fare.
Outside of people who want a Camino because it's a Camino, I'm thinking this is going to compete with light pickups and the choice in pickups (never mind ride quality, styling, options) today is far greater than back then. I'm not sure what if any place it's going to have in the market. - KMartSheriff, on 03/16/2008, -5/+4Pontiac is terrible. Every car they have ever made is ugly as sin. I don't care what it is, they are the worst car company in the world (design-wise) and should be burned to the ground.
The day they go away (which will probably never happen because some idiots actually like this trash...the same people who probably look at their sibling and think "hmm, not bad!") is the day I will rejoice.- Ebeniz, on 03/16/2008, -2/+4one word... AZTEK
- SilasTomorrow, on 03/16/2008, -0/+2One more word: ELEMENT
- Ebeniz, on 03/16/2008, -2/+4one word... AZTEK
- SilasTomorrow, on 03/16/2008, -1/+2Ahhh...all the self righteous, foreign-car loving Diggers are out. Tell you what: imagine a bright shiny Toyota or Scion badge on there, or even a VW. Do you like it now? The power of a simple mark affects our interpretation of the product underneath.
Personally, this is a cool looking vehicle.
- LongShlong, on 03/16/2008, -18/+13I don't know... I've always shunned this white trash abomination, and I will surely not stop now. - LanceUppercut, on 03/16/2008, -15/+74Awesome. now I can finally grow a mullet, and perm it.

- KingPsyz, on 03/16/2008, -0/+4Ape Drapes AHOY!
- MrsButtersworth, on 03/16/2008, -3/+2This WAS an awesome car. Now it looks like something doctors would like to be seen driving around. For that cool, trendy appearance.
- potisreallygood, on 03/16/2008, -2/+2It's been around in Australia for many years. Nothing new.
- franklymister, on 03/16/2008, -1/+2Yeah, we know. It's in the article.
Guess what? It's new to America, so we care.- potofgravy, on 03/16/2008, -0/+2Now you can water board on the go!

- TheFamousOne2, on 03/16/2008, -16/+12Havent people learned that once stuff dies, it shouldnt be brought back to life? Thats when zombie invasions happen!
- CobolNoFun, on 03/16/2008, -0/+12it never really died. It just moved to Australia.
- yacks, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1So Australia is full of zombies? That explains some tourist commercials.. guess they need fresh brains there.
- CobolNoFun, on 03/16/2008, -0/+12it never really died. It just moved to Australia.
- 97thfloor, on 03/16/2008, -19/+95I think bringing back the el camino is a good idea, but that looks like crap, it looks cheap and wussy. They could of done it a lot better.
- CaptainTater, on 03/16/2008, -1/+12It looks a lot more like a GMC Caballero.
Chevy could have done it better.
Why don't they just call it the Pontiac Platypus?- franklymister, on 03/16/2008, -3/+1WTF are you talking about? The GMC Caballero looked exactly like the El Camino, because it was exactly the same car.
- wibambau, on 03/16/2008, -1/+6There is already a Chevrolet version of this out there (for the South African market), it's called a Lumina SS Ute though:
http://www.chevrolet.co.za/content_data/LAAM/ZA/en ...

- dasdef, on 03/16/2008, -0/+9could have!!
- 21Chucks, on 03/16/2008, -1/+4Second that. I was wondering if I was the only one who thought this car looked hideous.
- franklymister, on 03/16/2008, -0/+3Tater, Wibambau - Do neither of you understand the concept of re-badged cars?
The Caballero was the exact same car as the El Camino, and the Lumina Ute is the exact same car as the Holden Ute in Australia, and this Pontiac. - inbred, on 03/16/2008, -1/+1Aside from the hood scoops and little scoops on the side, I don't think it looks all that bad.
- illt, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1the materials used today compared to just some standard metal alloy have a more plasticy look to them.
then again they are much stronger, lighter, and safe- MtheoryX, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1The "plasticy" look is from the clearcoat on the paint, not the underlying material itself. And the other parts that look "plasticy" actually are plastic.
- mitch37, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1The original Holden looks much better. GM thinks those modifications better suit America...
- CaptainTater, on 03/16/2008, -1/+12It looks a lot more like a GMC Caballero.
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 03/16/2008, -18/+8I finally have a reason to fix up my '87 El Camino.

- aldenhg, on 03/16/2008, -21/+11Really? I guess the H2 will be knocked out of its place as the #1 redneckmobile.
- badjoke, on 03/16/2008, -1/+19Like rednecks could afford hummers. Those are for soccermoms.
- CobolNoFun, on 03/16/2008, -0/+17wow where do you live that H2s are redneck mobiles. Man those are some wealthy rednecks, all i see our rednecks with is rusted out trucks from the 80s.
- KingMoses, on 03/16/2008, -2/+1I believe he's referring to his own new definition of redneck; anyone who doesn't want to vote for Obama.
- blackdude, on 03/16/2008, -0/+7I never thought i'd hear H2 & redneckmobile in the same sentence. That's astounding.
- Goodbyeworld, on 03/16/2008, -7/+1This could be a pitch for that Toyota truck ad... "Classy meets rugged"
- dannytehmanny, on 03/16/2008, -0/+2its a honda not toyota in the ad
- kman004, on 03/16/2008, -8/+15It looks like the Holdens they sell in Australia
- dannytehmanny, on 03/16/2008, -0/+14because it is just re badged
- S1ngular1ty1, on 03/16/2008, -2/+13Wow, you're quick.
- mitch37, on 03/16/2008, -4/+2Idiot, it is a Holden. The El Camino is being made in Australia
- orxor, on 03/16/2008, -3/+7Hopefully this one will come with a proper gear box not like the G8 that's out right now.
- CobolNoFun, on 03/16/2008, -1/+2the g8 gxp they anounced yesterday with this, will have a standard trans option, IIRC. So i will assume a gxp of this will follow with a standard.
- wibambau, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1I hope so... iit's definitely on the GXP at least. http://jalopnik.com/367820/2009-pontiac-g8-gxp-rev ...

- Falldog, on 03/16/2008, -7/+41It looks like a Grand Prix with a truck bed.
- donatj, on 03/16/2008, -4/+5That was my first thought too, and I hate the Grand Prix.
- saintamour, on 03/16/2008, -1/+5Looks more like a G8
- Superman7507, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2thats cuz it is
- mrfreeziexp, on 03/16/2008, -19/+61I honestly would be embarrassed to drive that.
- badjoke, on 03/16/2008, -8/+14Yet people drive Subaru Bajas around all the time. Ridiculous.
- LuckyASN, on 03/16/2008, -3/+7In all fairness, the suby baja is easily 10 times cooler then that thing pontiac has.
- Noctem, on 03/16/2008, -1/+3As much as I love Subaru (Just bought an '08 Impreza), I really hated the Baja (reincarnation of the subaru BRAT). Not surprised the Baja is no longer in their lineup.

- PeTeRZz, on 03/16/2008, -9/+61I'd love to know where the GM design team gets their crack.
Because they must get some good *****.- ross., on 03/16/2008, -0/+8Right here in Australia
- mitch37, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Its a Holden rebadged
- UltramegaOK, on 03/16/2008, -15/+9I bet this thing sips fuel.
/sarcasm- littleendian, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Actually it will do very well on the highway. Its nice to have a car with 300+ hp and still get 30mpg highway. That's as good as my old prelude + power to get out of its own way. I don't have this particular car (and wouldn't want it) but my car has basically the same motor and all and I'm basing my numbers on that.
- VJames, on 03/16/2008, -1/+25It is the Holden they sell in Australia, in The Sun Herald today they were talking about how GM is finally bringing it to the US market. They're very popular over here and in terms of fuel consumption they're very efficient compared to just about every other ute over here.
The earlier model's we've had over here are sound very grunty when you put your foot down on it.- pmettes, on 03/16/2008, -2/+4is ute short for utility vehicle?
- nitemonkey, on 03/16/2008, -0/+5Yep
- HotDogBun, on 03/16/2008, -0/+4'the two yoots'
'the two what?'
'yoots.'
'did you say yoots??'
"oh, i;m sorry, yoooooths'

- Abominous, on 03/16/2008, -6/+6My dad had a powder blue one. My mom and I hated it when he drove us somewhere seeing as how it had a damn gold bumper on the front.
- TheSpook, on 03/16/2008, -0/+2That sounds so pimp. I want one!
- lingum, on 03/16/2008, -0/+0Metzican?
- donatj, on 03/16/2008, -7/+7Man, I don't think its half as cool as the origonal. On the upside all the idiots that drive trucks as cars should probably have one of these as it surely takes less fuel to run.
- kurrent, on 03/16/2008, -7/+49Mexicans rejoice!
- Narcism, on 03/16/2008, -3/+20So the Chevrolet El Camino is back... but.. It's not a Chevrolet, and it's not called an El Camino... ? Did the El Camino actually come back?
- linuxpenguin, on 03/16/2008, -0/+3They knew if they called it an El Camino it wouldn't sell - it would remind people too much of that ugly half-truck, half-car thing they used to make.
Wait, never mind.

- Mrdudeperson, on 03/16/2008, -9/+6finally!
- HotDogBun, on 03/16/2008, -1/+3That's hilarious, only someone named mrdudeperson would be squeeling in eager anticipation for the return of the el camino
- cowsgonemadd3, on 03/16/2008, -9/+31Just as ugly as it used to be...
- IcereaperX303, on 03/16/2008, -7/+4Think they would be more concerned with producing a fuel efficient car than some Car/Truck hybrid fugliness.
- nogami, on 03/16/2008, -0/+3Some new form of corporate mismanagement. Guess they're eschewing "efficient and profitable" for "ugly and unsellable".
No, on second thought, scratch that - some people with no taste will certainly still buy it... - tmbrwolf19, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Thats not the way GM is playing it. Pontiac is being set up as a all rear wheel drive sports division (mostly by just importing Australian cars and putting new front ends and tagging on them), so fuel economy is low on the priority list. All of GMs fuel efficient and hybrid models will probably just be sold under the GM name brand.
- tightscrummy, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1But it is a hybrid.
- nogami, on 03/16/2008, -0/+3Some new form of corporate mismanagement. Guess they're eschewing "efficient and profitable" for "ugly and unsellable".
- ImaBrowncoat, on 03/16/2008, -8/+7Wow. I never thought I'd get to see the marriage of yuppie and redneck. I love the classic Camino, but this is horrendous. Or, to exercise brevity: this is gay. ...no disrespect intended, to the gay community, I mean. Plenty of disrespect meant for Pontiac. :P
- firesphotons, on 03/16/2008, -9/+5Go Detroit!! Too bad most Americans are going to be on mopeds by 2010, just like new mortgage legislation, right on time!!!!
- goldisalie, on 03/16/2008, -0/+4Actually, its 100% designed and built in Melbourne, Australia, hate to break it to you ;)
GM seems to have decided Holden are the only decent design team left in their empire, we have been commissioned to design and manufacture the new V6, the G8, now this, and previously the GTO... And I bet you anything there will be a new GTO out next year sometime, Holden have already built the prototype.
This is all fantastic news for me as I'm hoping to get some vacation work with them over the summer.- tightscrummy, on 03/16/2008, -0/+2"This is all fantastic news for me as I'm hoping to get some vacation work with them over the summer."

- DeadSkinMask, on 03/16/2008, -2/+13Shouldn't it be a Chevy instead of a Pontiac??
- MrSilverblood, on 03/16/2008, -1/+1Good point! But then again...it is GM. eeeek!
- DeadSkinMask, on 03/16/2008, -0/+2Thats like having a "Chevrolet GTO", or a "Pontiac Chevelle" or "GMC Corvette" so on, so forth...

- derek20la, on 03/16/2008, -6/+14Released just in time for $4 gas!
- robthom, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Fret not. We'll all be be working for the government and driving econo boxes soon when it becomes to expensive to drive a pickup anymore.
- RomeyRome, on 03/16/2008, -2/+9Think they would have better luck if the released it under the Chevy brand.
