- GordonFree, on 10/02/2008, -27/+218What? People are still buying those? If you bought one, ask your doctor - you might be mentally retarded!
- Dumbledorito, on 10/02/2008, -17/+206Good riddance. Even if you needed an SUV, a Hummer served no purpose other than if your hobby was to burn more gas than anyone else on the road. And they were ugly on top of that.
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -8/+120Hummers are only fun to drive in GTAIV. And that's because i can't in good conscience steal the car from someone without running them over with it before driving away.
- JakeW, on 10/02/2008, -4/+70Does this really come to a surprise to anyone?
- JJCDAD, on 10/02/2008, -4/+55Volvo sales were down over 50% too. *shrug*
- Fallout911, on 10/02/2008, -9/+49About ***** time.
- fuzzlog, on 10/02/2008, -2/+38Let me be the devil's advocate for a minute...hmmm don't they already?
< /evilmode > - SiliconRain, on 10/02/2008, -2/+37The world has run out of people with a basic grasp of punctuation?
- SmpleJohn, on 10/02/2008, -9/+40HEY!
Those soccer mom's and guys with small... um... "egos" NEED those big vehicles. - pstroll, on 10/02/2008, -9/+39The Autobots will have to switch brands if GM goes bankrupt
- rubixcubez, on 10/02/2008, -12/+39its because everyone is buying go carts :)
- purzzzell, on 10/02/2008, -0/+24They'd have to rob a bank immediately after to be able to afford the gas :D
- badnewshotel, on 10/02/2008, -2/+25Oh, this is about a car... wow, did I misunderstand the title.
- ChaSchva, on 10/02/2008, -3/+25Guess people finally got sick of calculating their fuel in gallons per mile...
- Godlike, on 10/02/2008, -3/+23Egos? Let me be perfectly clear: if you drive one of those down the road in $4 a gallon gas America, everyone around you thinks you are a complete moron who can't make decent vehicle decisions or that you are compensating for your tiny penis. Seriously. Anyone who takes the time to consider your vehicle choice believes you to be a fool, even everyday normal people.
54.8 will very quickly become 100.0. - BoneStamp, on 10/02/2008, -1/+21This has little to do with HUMMER fuel economy, the WHOLE market is down. This has more to do with the economy. Since the economy is about to collapse, the auto manufacturers don't want to own your car when you lose your job and can't make the payments so they stopped leasing in Sept. Volvo is down 51.5% and they make a lot of VERY fuel efficient cars. Mazda is down 35.6% and most of their volume is in small cars. HUMMER sales might be down vs same time last year but they're up in August and Sept vs June and July.
- Cbappa, on 10/02/2008, -2/+21That doesnt make any ***** sense
- Joomal, on 10/02/2008, -6/+25Hummers are ugly, not practical, cannot fit in most parking lot divided areas, expensive, fuel demons, and just plain stupid. Why does America have this fascination with these things?
- bigteebo, on 10/02/2008, -0/+17To be fair, people are still driving their old Volvos. They don't seem to fall apart. I don't know how to say "planned obsolescence" in Swedish.
- Hodor, on 10/02/2008, -2/+18Title is sort of misleading, other companies (especially luxury brands) went down a lot, too.
- Murdats, on 10/02/2008, -1/+16i think he means more per litre.
- Synchro, on 10/02/2008, -2/+17You must be talking about an H1, as the H2 and H3 are nothing but grocery getters. They are horribly overweight and simply not designed to go offroading with. Even the H1 would have problems on a lot of trails simply because of its width and wheel base. In Moab on the other hand, all of them probably would do just fine, but there is enough traction there for a subaru to do OK, so that ain't much of a benchmark.
All in all, if it was offroading you were looking for, Hummer would not be a first choice unless you lived in Moab and ran a tourist offroading shop. Which frankly, I would do in a heart beat, moab is so awesome. - PecanHead, on 10/02/2008, -3/+18What?!? Hummer sales down? Time for a *****' bailout!
- jcharak58, on 10/02/2008, -2/+17but you have to look that everyone is down... even MINI. They've been having 30%+ gains the past year or so on a 08/07 basis. The market as a whole is crappy.
If you look at months where people were doing good, Hummer was still down 50% - sdbyrd, on 10/02/2008, -4/+18hummer is the perfect example on how to ruin a unique vehicle. it used to be luxury-only, then GM buys it, makes no less than 3 versions in the process (dropping the original later) and wonders why no one wants one anymore. great job guys!
- vilago, on 10/02/2008, -5/+19get rid of it. then take the production, materials and labor you would have used and make a car that competes on the honda civic's level and then you'd have something.
- chadlewis76, on 10/02/2008, -4/+17Yes. It surprises me that Hummers are still being made.
- mysticalone, on 10/02/2008, -1/+13I hope congress is reading this because I think the motor vehicle industry needs a bailout. A collapse of Hummer, Lexus, BMW, and the like would severely hurt those that can afford luxury vehicles. Honestly, would you rather drive a Ford Ranger instead of a Hummer H1? Could you allow your kids to drive to Harvard in a Toyota instead of a Lexus?
It's time to bail them out before we drive anything less fancy.
/This sarcasm tag is brought to you by Digg members lacking ability to see sarcasm. - inactive, on 10/02/2008, -7/+19I bet lovewidescreen has one.
- icndvl, on 10/02/2008, -7/+18Green is in, big is out. Car companies need to respond to changing consumer needs or get out and let someone else do it.
- yojiffyskippy, on 10/02/2008, -4/+15Mentally retarded or rich...... or both.
- BradBrown, on 10/02/2008, -0/+11The kids tell me you can hose out the insides of a Honda Element if it gets sticky...is that true?
- BradBrown, on 10/02/2008, -2/+13Damn. If only there were a relationship between litres, liters, and gallons!
- Murdats, on 10/02/2008, -1/+12more per gallon is still more per litre (and more per liter)
- Balanced, on 10/02/2008, -1/+12I think the wikipedia article about Hummer mentions the brand is likely o get sold off anyway...
- Garmr, on 10/02/2008, -2/+13Most European imports are overpriced compared to domestic and Japanese manufacturers. It's probably a market mechanism due to the perceived status of these particular cars.
This is your Captain Obvious, signing off... - Testiculese, on 10/02/2008, -1/+11As long as those fart tips don't fit on them...
- falkonv7l, on 10/02/2008, -0/+9I think Autobots should go with the VW group, think about it, Audi, VW, Bently, Lamborghini, Porsche...............
- greenvortex, on 10/02/2008, -0/+9If I saw mud all over your Hummer I'd think, "OK, at least he takes it off the road." But I've never seen a muddy Hummer in my life.
- mtvkilledusall, on 10/02/2008, -1/+10Liberals? Conservatives? How about human. You want to make your fellow man angry just because you can? No wonder I am so sad all the time.
- Xanrez, on 10/02/2008, -0/+9You also have to take into account the energy and resources that were used to make that new, fuel efficient car. Life isn't as simple as 10 second sound bites from the mainstream media.
- yojiffyskippy, on 10/02/2008, -0/+9Hypothetically of course, where would one find these 'sorority girls'? And please be specific.
- protodon, on 10/02/2008, -2/+11What are you a lobbyist? I think Hummers are an exception....
- BigPapi, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8My wife's '87 240DL just won't die. Damn thing runs like a tank. My mother's 2002 S60 on the other hand is a total POS and needs about $3K in maintenance every year. I guess you can thank Ford's influence for that.
- hockeyplayer66, on 10/02/2008, -1/+9Nice Hummer
Sorry about your Penis - opticwind, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8I'll never understand people who hate Hummers, when they themselves drive a car. Yes, it's true that the Hummer is a fairly bad gas-guzzler. But differences in mpg is a superficial, and somewhat convenient, comparison. "My car only pollutes the Earth 80% of how much yours does" is not a strong argument. The fact is, if you cared about the environment, most people here could take public transportation or carpool, and don't. No, you hate on Hummers as a tool for self-centered gratification on a topic that you know you should be doing more for, but haven't.
- carpespasm, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8More per (unit of liquid volume).
- Computer_Kid, on 10/02/2008, -2/+10But what am I going to carry my airliner in?
- scarwars, on 10/02/2008, -1/+9RealHyperX sure likes to talk about male genitalia..
- scarwars, on 10/02/2008, -1/+9@CRCulver:
Yea, those are the military Hummers.. -
