- JK1150, on 07/07/2009, -9/+68by not building junk cars?
- pstroll, on 07/07/2009, -0/+50because they hired an ENGINEER as their CEO and didn't go the bean-counter-marketing-sales-drone route like GM and Chrysler. Sales guys always ruin companies... ie like that bitch who almost brought down HP and like what Sir Stringer is doing to Sony.

- diggit83, on 07/07/2009, -6/+46Wow she actually is pretty hot, and exceptionally well spoken.
- writeb, on 07/07/2009, -0/+37Maybe by creating fairly kick ass European cars?
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+27Read the comment buddy, he didn't say they did. Assembly Line != Automobile.
- danielrh9, on 07/07/2009, -1/+26My car is a '06 Mustang. One of the best cars I've ever had. (One of my other favorite cars I've had was a 1976 Maverick!) It's four years old with around 70k on it and I've not had the first problem out of it. I don't really care for the changes they've made in the 2010 model, but I'd still strongly consider buying a newer Mustang whenever it's time for a new car.
I don't really care for a lot of the other stuff Ford makes, but I'll be a fan and a customer as long as the Mustang stays a good quality car. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -6/+29Unions suck
- phorofor, on 07/07/2009, -0/+23My little old 95 Taurus is still running. If I were forced to buy an American made car, Ford would be one of my top options.
- clemsontigers, on 07/07/2009, -1/+22When I read the desciption and it said "Smoking hot Olivia Zaleski speaks with Chairman of Ford Motors" I thought to myself "Did CNN really just say that in an article?" Too bad they didn't.
- megaton, on 07/07/2009, -6/+27Being responsible for the invention of the assembly line doesn't hurt. ;)
- batmanuel1988, on 07/07/2009, -0/+20The fact that they may end up getting more screwed over than GM despite clearly being more responsible with their assets is so messed up. They clearly made more of an effort to streamline and be more efficient, and have made quality cars, but GM won't have any debt when it comes back...So effed
- BotchaMcCoola, on 07/07/2009, -2/+21Let's buy a Ford product this fall. Teach our socialist politicians a strong lesson. We true Americans reward winners not losers as they like to do.
- Bloodwine, on 07/07/2009, -6/+24It has nothing to do with car quality.
They didn't have nearly the investments in mortgage-backed securities as GM, so the housing crash didn't wipe them out. It basically has to do with Ford's financial decisions, not their engineering or design decisions. - itdood, on 07/07/2009, -1/+18Ford has every right to tout this, kudos to them and their employees.
- protodon, on 07/07/2009, -2/+19By embracing technology and what the consumers actually want not what they want consumers to have.
- bpoteat, on 07/07/2009, -1/+17You're a bit behind. That was a joke in the early 80s among diehard chevy and pontiac nascar fans.
- dagamer34, on 07/07/2009, -1/+17They make cars you'd be proud to own. For people who don't want a shoe-looking hybrid, the Ford Fusion Hybrid looks amazing. And they also don't have a billion brands to maintain like GM did.
- Gregus1032, on 07/07/2009, -3/+18I'm not gonna lie, i only watched it for the first 4 words in the description.
- pitdog, on 07/07/2009, -2/+17Ford do make some really decent cars, for eg European Focus, Mondeo, Escort etc... They're great to drive, have good handling (some say best in their respective classes), and look good. It would be a big shame if this company had to go down (unlike some other American plasticy, inefficient, lousy handling ugly interior crap-car makers).
- TheSpook, on 07/07/2009, -1/+15I just want a vehicle that doesn't have a lawnmower engine and can do some work (and fit kids stuff and groceries), is fuel efficient (relative to its size/purpose), and is reasonably affordable.
I also want a pony wrapped in bacon. - MaxxusFlamus, on 07/07/2009, -0/+14agreed-
Their european cars are amazing. It's about damn time they start bringing them to the US. - TheSpook, on 07/07/2009, -4/+17"Have you driven a Ford..... lately?"
- Mike17102, on 07/07/2009, -2/+13I just want a car that will do over 200 mph, run a standing quarter in under 12 seconds, and goes 0-60 in under 4.
Either that or an H2 that was somehow converted to run on baby seals. - HurricaneDC, on 07/07/2009, -0/+11Ford should bring back the GT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_GT
As for GM coming back with no debt: if they still have ***** management they'll fall from grace again. - Moralogic, on 07/07/2009, -0/+10Yes, and the Ford Fusions are awesome cars.
- RudeTurnip, on 07/07/2009, -0/+10Henry Ford said if he gave customers what they wanted, they would ask for faster horses.
- scottcxv, on 07/07/2009, -1/+11no
- bstew22, on 07/07/2009, -3/+12i just want a damn car that is efficient, cost effective, and eco friendly.
- bstew22, on 07/07/2009, -1/+10I HAD a pony wrapped in bacon...was delicious.
- Mike17102, on 07/07/2009, -0/+9I am sure it has something to do with the zillion F150s they sell every year. Most years its the best selling "car" in the world.
- Gman1223, on 07/07/2009, -0/+8Well, the Malibu competes with the Fusion. The 500 (when it was still being called that) was competing with the Impala. The new Taurus looks pretty great and the new Fusion has class leading fuel efficiency. Also, the Fusion has had great quality ratings from the time it was introduced.
- Kidddrunkadelic, on 07/07/2009, -4/+12Built Ford Tough!
- appleseed1234, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7"...and as history pulls down its pants and prepares to lower it's ass on Not Sure's head, it will be Daddy Justice who will be crapping on him this time."
- schnikies79, on 07/07/2009, -1/+8I don't know about the OP but I decided unions suck when I was in one (the teamsters). Myself and all my co-workers didn't call it the union, we called it the mafia.
- HCProgramr, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7To my knowledge, Ford didn't take any...they secured a line of credit in case the world around them implodes, but so far as I know they haven't touched it.
What Ford got right was some lucky timing. They waited too long in terms of cars, but started a corporate reorganization several years ago which included mortgaging everything they could. - CaviMike, on 07/07/2009, -1/+7One word: Europe
Europe loves Ford and the quality of their European division managed to trickle back down to the States. The same can't be said for any other American brand. - lordmike, on 07/07/2009, -4/+10Ford got lucky... they mortgaged all their stuff to have a ton of cash on hand, and then the financial crisis hit... They've been burning through that cash like crazy just like everyone else, but it's cash that GM and Chrysler didn't have. GM was already going through a restructuring and paying a lot of costs up front. Had the financial crisis hit one year later, GM would have been fine.. not so sure about Chrysler.. Daimler really gutted them years ago...
Now, Ford gets the benefit of stealing business form GM and Chrysler, which should be enough to keep them afloat until the economy gets better overall... In short, Ford got very lucky. They even admit it. - scuba7183, on 07/07/2009, -1/+7But what about the snakes?
- giid, on 07/07/2009, -1/+6Baby seals are so passe now. The new fuel is baby polar bears.

- specialK16, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5I should have bought Ford stock back in October.
- strictnein, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5Ford supplies the Dodge Chargers and Chevy Impalas to some of the local police? That's crazy!
- SouthsideIrish, on 07/07/2009, -2/+7How so? GM and Chrysler couldn't make good cars before they went bankrupt, what makes you think they will make could cars now.
- ltethe, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5Back... Checked out the website...
The Taurus is back???
And it doesn't suck?
Huh... Well how bout that. - psilokan, on 07/07/2009, -1/+6You call it luck, others call it foresight.
- Vodd9, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4I just want a damn plane.
- martianspy, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4My wife just bought a Mercury Milan. I have to say that I am totally impressed with Microsoft Sync and some of the other car's features. It's made me think twice about dismissing Ford Motor Co.
- UselessTrivia, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4That's only part of it, though. GM lost their asses in the credit crunch and securities collapse, to be sure, but if they weren't hemorhagging cash the government bailout would have given them a fighting chance. Ford had been restructuring for a couple of years already and was actively shutting down underperforming lines before the recession hit. GM was just beginning, so even the hefty cash infusion from the government wasn't enough, because they hadn't stopped the bleeding.
- wjlaw100, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4I thought that was Toyota's ploy???
