- Jabrams2, on 11/20/2008, -1/+18I'm not really surprised with this choice honestly. The Accord does seem to have it covered on every level. Congrats I guess?
- Netman21, on 11/20/2008, -1/+15Thinking about a Honda lately. This might be the one!
- bushisadumbass, on 11/20/2008, -1/+13I have a 1996 Honda Accord Ex. 215,000 miles and it shows no signs of slowing down. I'm the 2nd owner and I'm friends with the 1st owner. I absolutely love that car to death.
I can't say the same about the car I used to have, a 1994 Ford Explorer. It only had 104,000 miles and it had so many damn problems.
I will never, ever buy an American car again. I'd rather have a Honda or a Toyota with 200,000 than an American with 75,000 miles any day of the week. This is why Ford, GM, and Chrysler are in so much *****. Building unreliable pieces of crap that only last 100,000. And that's if you're lucky.
My next car WILL BE a Honda Accord. That is after my 96 Accord dies and it shows no signs of slowing down. I'll bet my house it will last 300,000 miles. - inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+11I just saw one of these on the road, and even though I've never been an Accord fan, I must say the new ones do look quite slick.
- Afrochu, on 11/20/2008, -3/+11Yet another reason why Ford and GM can go ***** themselves.
- jboitnott, on 11/20/2008, -1/+9Honda is one of the more healthy auto companies out there (not saying much) and nice cars like this definitely show why.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+8hmmm no bailout needed
- algaeturd, on 11/20/2008, -2/+8***ccrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeakakk***
-death rattle coming from somewhere in Detroit. - seltaeb4, on 11/20/2008, -4/+8Wow, a Yahoo award!
That's about as awesome as a "Top 5% of Sites on the Web" award. - schoate09, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4I've got a 2003 Acura RSX (Honda) 63,000, a 98 Honda Civic 130,000, and a 95 Acura Integra GS-R (Honda) ,185,000. Love all three, never given me ANY problems beyond the normal maintenance.
I highly recommend the brand. - MrFurious2k, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4What am I missing here? The styling is decent but by no means "head turning" or "bold." It's a pretty average car design. I'm betting that unless you're somewhat of a Honda fan you'd never give it a second look when you're walking through a parking lot. It looks a lot like a "fleet" car that you might rent from a rental agency (not that this is bad). It's a very conservative design.
I recognize that taste is an individual thing, but this is not what I'd call a very risky, thought provoking, or ground breaking. It's spicy like ketchup is spicy.
Honda isn't attracting customers based on these looks. They're doing it based on reliability and fuel economy. - saikyan, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3WTF you have a WRX and an S2000? Lucky bastard.
- halomaker, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Excelsior!
- eco57, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Well, it's 'boldly' different from previous models - I'll give it that. Honda is not a company that takes big chances on styling. But I don't think its moving in the right direction given that it's bigger and heavier than ever before.
- dema, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Marketing speak in Digg description = bury.
- dingedarmor, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Um, so the 289,000 miles I put on a 1990 chevy lumina and it was still running when I gave it to my nephew is unique, huh?...every car is different as is the owners...don't get me wrong; Fords usually do suck but any car that is maintained--oil and filter changes...that sort of thing will go the distance. I've done it with a freaking Dodge Shadow--got over 200,000 miles on it--just never buy a 4 cycler with a superchanger if it is American--go with the V 6---G M's 3.8 is a really good motor...just saying....
You have to research makes and models and ask a freaking mechanic what car he thinks is the dependable. I've also had really good luck buying from National Car Sales--of course I take my brother with me--he is a professional mechanic and we drive the car and the saleman crazy until we find the one we want. - iamamaniac, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I'm really surprised with affordable intro price and super fuel economy.
- slimasian, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2good call, sir. I made the huge mistake of buying a 2001 Pontiac Trans Am -- sure, the thing was fast as snot, but at 14,000 miles, the catalytic converter went out and I experienced some electrical problems the likes of which I had never seen in a car. I cut my losses and traded in for a 2003 Subaru WRX...haven't looked back since -- I beat the hell out of my Subaru, and not any major problems to report at 125,000 miles and counting.
I was so enthralled in fact that I did decide to get a Honda for a "fun" car (S2000), and I have no doubt it will be as reliable as the other terrific Hondas on the road, and I'm glad Honda continues to get props for combining clever engineering with sustained quality.
The sustained quality of a Japanese car over an American car is like night and day. Then again, American car companies were the ones to introduce the world to a "3 year automobile lifecycle" back in the early days of the automobile...you reap what you sow, I guess :-P - ashgtx, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3A Honda never dies. Detroit should learn something from their Japanese counterparts.
The Accord deserves the award. Nothing more to argue. - Brian994, on 11/20/2008, -0/+21994 Accord Ex with 96,XXX miles. Love it. So inexpensive, reliable and stylish.
Fifth gen for life! - Wulffy, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4Honda was ever one step ahead. Honda is a feeling, not only a car.
- ricksite, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I think Toyota is a feeling. "Oh what a feeling, Toyota"
- saikyan, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Hell yes RSX, fantastic car. I have an 02 Type-S with about the same mileage. My girlfriend has a 94 Accord with well over 300,000 miles. That thing is a beast.
- slimasian, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2lol, thanks...the WRX is really beat up though thanks to street parking in the city in my earlier years :-
I really wanted a roadster, and the S2000 by far and away was the superior choice out of the selection in my price range -- I highly recommend them, fun little go-karts to drive :) - Harbinger67, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Probably because an Accord is all that Yahoo can afford right now.
- TheWorm, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2The new Accords look really good and are fun to drive. The design reminds me of a BMW. In terms of reliability they're great too. My 05 Accord hasn't had any problems at all. I'd recommend it.

That's a stylish car even among cars that cost 4 times as much. I really like what Honda is doing these days. - jbmcb, on 11/20/2008, -0/+21 - The formula used to determine mileage has changed. That figure would be much lower these days
2 - Emissions and safety requirements changed radically in the late 90's. That's why Honda can't even make a car with a traditional drivetrain that does better than 40MPG.
3 - Every car company had vehicles that got fantastic mileage back then, but nobody bought them. The Geo Metro XFi got 53MPG, adjusted for the current EPA method, better than the 50MPG the VX got, adjusted.
4 - Chevy has more models than any other car maker that get more than 30MPG. The Cruze, the cobalt replacement coming out next year, will have a 140HP turbocharged I4 that gets nearly 40MPG (unless you have a lead foot) for well under $20k. - bushisadumbass, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1dingedarmor,
I guess you're one of the rare lucky ones. My ford explorer was a v6, but it had sooooooooooooo many problems. - ncavet, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1160K on my Honda Accord. LOVE IT!
- kalpol, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2Where is the diesel engine, Honda???
- boncherry, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I like the coupe instead
- rockstar1o9, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2lol with the way Yahoo's stock is dropping, the Yahoo Autos Excelerator Award will probably be called the MSN Autos Excelerator Award by next year.
- DirtySanch, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2Love my Honda. It really impressed me when I took it up north fully loaded 3 passengers 2 bikes trunk and back seat fully loaded with supplies. Drove like a champ the whole way. I was quite surprised at how well it help up.
- drlha, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2You should learn to use the reply button.
- piratearggghhh, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I've drive a 96 accord and will probably buy a new car next year but it has never leaked oil, needed a new transmission, or anything major. In fact, I drove it from CA to TX this past summer with over 175,000 miles on it. I take it to maintenance regularly but Hondas are just incredible when it comes to reliability. The new accord coupe is nice.
- sodade, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I would have bought an accord, but they stopped making wagons. Why people like sedans so much is beyond me.
- SpyCatcher, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1How much did Honda pay for this award?
- GAMER135, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Sorry to burst you bubble, but Ford usually makes one of the most Sh*tty cars out there. Now if you want a American made car you should have gone with GMC, Cheverolet, Buick, Jeep, Dodge and etc. Also to add to this note i have a 2001 Buick park avenue (i know, laughs all around) and it has 133,000 miles and this thing is solid. Need some body due to winter (salt love to eat the metal, grrrrrrr), but other than that its pretty solid. Usually a car starts to wear down if the drive tends to push the car to a point it can break, just a heads up on there.
I have to agree with Dingerdarmor, GM's 3800 series engine was one of the best engine's they have ever made but they discontinued that engine since 2005 :( - bushisadumbass, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1You've got 3 cars? Holy ***** :D
1996 Honda Accord Ex here. If it were a woman I would marry my car. - brundlefly76, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1No kidding - good looks, 271 HP(!) automatic with 21/29 MPG for $26k???
I have a BMW 540i, but when I ride in my friend's Accord, I'm like "damn, I would have no problem owning this car, and I would have saved over $50k in sticker price, taxes, fuel, and repairs!". - carlosos, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1You should really give GM and Chrysler a try. Ford might suck (a lot of bad experience with them) but the other two seem to make good cars that also get good mpg.
- ashura001, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I've got a '91 Civic DX. I love my car. I can fill it up for $15 and I can drive across the state of Georgia and only burn half of a tank.
It's not the fastest car on the road, but it's very efficient and has been for nearly ten years.
When I finally decide to get a new car I'm definitely going to consider getting a Honda first. - thumbwar, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1what, you mean this reply button? Oh yeah!
- Wulffy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Hey! Depends perhaps on type of car. I think there's one car from Toyota I would prefer. But 5 from Honda... :)
- Kelso4377, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1I traded my BMW for the new Accord almost a year ago. No regrets! The '08 model was the first time an Accord could compete on style alone. It really is a great-looking car.
- locondcoco, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0whew, thought i was the only one. really not a fan of the 4-door. i mean, i'm sure its still a GREAT reliable car, but dont agree with "stylish".
- economicbob, on 11/20/2008, -10/+9yahoo sucks.
- Peabdog, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1Bought a new Accord a few months ago. If there's something it does wrong or doesn't do which it should, I haven't noticed it yet. Love, love, LOVE this car.
- nepidae, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0Is this the automotive equivalent to giving someone a few internets?
- pjy04, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0yeah I guess it's smart to target honda and toyota since they will be the only car companies left with advertising dollars. Just watch, all the news and publication sites that review cars will soon pick honda/toyota as their "best" to bring in more marketing dollars.
