- mort8824, on 07/01/2009, -5/+43Hey look guys, I put a giant Jet engine on the back of my truck
RAD MAN, How fast does it go?
Well, actually, it's pretty slow
oh......
Buried - rwert, on 07/01/2009, -3/+36Put a functional jet engine on anything that's not a jet and I'll Digg it every time.
In fact, that should be like a Digg law or something. - shitton, on 07/02/2009, -0/+26please tell me I'm not the only person who thought at first glance this was about a printer...
- divinediva, on 07/01/2009, -0/+18Seems Pretty Slow !
- TECHeGO, on 07/01/2009, -1/+19I will also Digg the story that explains their hillbilly deaths!
- GlenWRATH, on 07/01/2009, -0/+16Seems like a lot of money for very little actual return.
- RadiatedAnt, on 07/02/2009, -1/+14No match against the Jet Beetle http://www.ronpatrickstuff.com/
- Spinducky08, on 07/02/2009, -0/+9no. THIS is the coolest TRUCK (and a REAL one BTW)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31RWj-h4kHM&fea ... - dirtycanucker, on 07/02/2009, -0/+8The way he has that set up is counterproductive. The jet engine requires unabated air to suction in to create the most thrust. He has that mounted behind the cab, thus SEVERELY reducing the intake area of air. No wonder the thrust vs speed ratio is WAY off. I understand that this is just a novelty truck, so good for him if this is all he wants. However, if that jet was mounted higher so as to give it clear an unabated air intake, it would perform a HELL of a lot less sluggishly, perhaps even making the piston engine redundantly not needed.
- inactive, on 07/01/2009, -0/+7It's slow until it hits about 120mph - then it starts going totally suicidally fast as it builds power and rpm. Don't tailgate this unless you want your car to catch on fire.
- BorsKaegel, on 07/01/2009, -1/+7"Let's see if those bastards can do 90."
- nicodemus26, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5If I were him I would install a huge air intake on the top of the cab. Raising the whole engine would make the center of mass way too high.
- benroy, on 07/02/2009, -2/+7What's wrong with you people? Who cares if it isn't as fast as you would expect. It's a ***** jet engine strapped to a ***** pickup truck! For all of you who want to bury it, just pretend that there's a cat in the passenger seat.
- rock774, on 07/01/2009, -1/+6Where in the hell do you put the fire wood ?
- santiago1, on 07/01/2009, -0/+4 Decepticon!
- mikenomn, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4I don't think this guy understands how jet engines work. He put it behind the cab of his truck, pretty much blocking any air that the engine would need to be efficient.
- 17999, on 07/01/2009, -0/+3what about herbie the love jet powered bug a few years ago... now, *that* was engineering.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Seems kinda counterproductive....
- TheN4D, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Great... my accord can out run that thing and burning 5 gals a min makes it even more pointless.
- Loki101, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Darwin Award potential?
- richIsBored, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Yeah. I think I found that video and holy ***** *****! The fireball is insane...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCbZOicmzq0 - Vivifyer, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3what a slow peice of *****.. I'm all for putting jet engines on anything, but only if they then make it go fast. This is as functional as wings on an emu.
burried for lame - knobbysideup, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3It would have been more impressive, and practical, to power the drive shafts with the gas turbine. This is a lame design.
- nicodemus26, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Back to the Future, actually.
- pyrogyro, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Wonder what the insurance rate is on this truck...
- ghatid, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Right beneath the big kettle of water.
- ghatid, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Kind of like what our government's doing. :)
(sorry, I had to...) - ghatid, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Yea, he should open all of his windows, including the rear one...I wonder how that would feel.
- Taiyoryu, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3If it was mounted higher, that would be some serious torque. He'd be better off lowering the jet turbine, sacrificing the passenger seat, and creating an intake and duct system. He can also leave the passenger seat, and position and route the duct work over the cab or on the sides, but then you're increasing your coefficient of drag by creating a larger forward profile. Since it's a truck, it's not like its Cd is all that low anyhow, but nothing a custom body kit couldn't improve.
- willrs, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3i did too, i actually just reinstalled the drivers for my photosmart 2700 this morning hahahaha
- disrupter, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2The display said LOL :)
- jasdf, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2This is my dream too. I'm just waiting to get a better job so that I can throw money at awesome projects like this. BTW, he way overpaid for that engine. I have seen similar models for ~$2,000.
- Lane, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Pretty disappointing, with that monster of an engine the F-150 would probably start to break apart if he ever gave it enough fuel. It would be worth it though!
- Cyberdactyl, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2The deal killer is irate people behind him in heavy traffic and the 1.5 gallons a minute millage
- borez, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2On a standard truck held on with cable ties.
- Haz3rd, on 07/02/2009, -0/+22 seconds of the thing actually moving. Buried.
- Schmich, on 07/01/2009, -1/+3I remember reading one on the Dwarwin awards many many years ago. If I remember right the guys brakes melted and then he couldn't make a turn due to the speed and "flew" straight off the cliff.
edit: found it http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1995-04.h ...
Urban Legend so maybe isn't true. - samirms, on 07/01/2009, -1/+3He would be from Michigan. This guy's like the real life Tim Taylor.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2A turbo steam engine would have been cooler. This wasn't even that fast.
- Tubal22, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3I believe he was talking about getting sucked into the jet engine while you're driving. He wondered how THAT would feel.
- shinkou, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Beware of the birds!
- nitrojunky24, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2that's so useless that I can't even begin to think of any other words looks kinda cool but at least put a lowering kit on to keep it from rolling I mean good christ I get nervous my explorer hits 85.
- mmm_linux, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2moron.
- skipvt, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2I'd hate to be sitting behind this guy at a stoplight.
- memper, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2I wonder how long the rear window of the truck cab will stay in place. The glass is bound to get sucked from its gasket mount. Auto safety glass will explode into tiny chunks and the jet engine will fail, probably spectacularly.
- wrestlingnrj, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Shockwave FTW!
- commenter01, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2but is it as fast as it can *fly*?
- protoopus, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2i saw art arfons' "cyclops" at amarillo dragway ("seven miles south on washington. be there. be there. be there") in the mid-60s. fools that we were, we got into the staging lanes before the start. there was just this whine and a little wavyness in the air (heat mirage) UNTIL he hit the afterburner. my white bluejean jacket (with the turned-up collar and rolled-up sleeves) was covered with this fine, black, greasy ash.
- commenter01, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1lol there is no "torque". there's thrust.
- fullgrip, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1ok so jet engine + dock struct + suspension reinforcement raised overall weight to 11 tons.... niiiice planned...... jettruck fail!
