- tbhurst, on 05/22/2009, -0/+21The man can tinker.
- m4xn00b, on 05/23/2009, -5/+18If this guy can do this with junk, I'm pretty sure those giant American car companies with millions, if not, billions of dollars at their disposal can do better...
oh wait... - robertisaar, on 05/22/2009, -3/+15if only everybody was this creative....
- Bobby1978, on 05/23/2009, -0/+10She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. He's made a lot of special modifications himself.
- mantis108, on 05/23/2009, -0/+10Loving all these cool 2 wheeled inventions of late.. first a drum set bike and now a recycled junk motorcycle.
- klick37, on 05/23/2009, -0/+9Out of 'junk'... old motorcycle parts.
- mrsardo, on 05/23/2009, -0/+6I really need to do something with my life.
- brad3378, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5Why limit your complaints to only the American Companies?

- jMichaelEdwards, on 06/14/2009, -0/+5Very cool
- vulcanius, on 05/23/2009, -0/+4That's Just Plain Crazy And I Wish I Was As Smart As Him.
- 13373h4X0r, on 05/23/2009, -0/+4That video has really good stereo separation...maybe *too* good... LOL! Just saying! :-)
Anyhow, that guy is awesome. I love his description of the euphoria he experienced when he made his first test drive around the block. It's very cool that he is sharing his enthusiasm for inventing with kids in the community. - dodger2020, on 05/23/2009, -0/+3uhhh, "I installed 3 12v batteries a controller and a 5k pot."
The 5k pot is his speed controller. - viper001, on 05/23/2009, -2/+4Wow. This guy is doing what most of us would talk about, but never actually attempt. Definitely an inspiration to get off my ass and work towards a summer project.
- AquaOSX, on 05/23/2009, -0/+2Now, can someone tell me why the Zero and Enertia motorcycles have top speeds similar to a bike made from scrap by a guy who isn't an electrical engineer?
- midbc, on 05/23/2009, -0/+2solar power penis
- Hilyin, on 05/23/2009, -0/+2lol @ "I got 3 that i know of"
- maz2331, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Cool tinkering.
- unfinite, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Check these out if you want to see something a little more practical.

- TheMachine1, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Cool I should have followed the link to his site.
- drewhoo, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1"and hundreds of others".. I interpreted the same way you did :)
- page29qd, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Wow What A Smart Guy On Front Page Wow
- bongHits4u, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1if he built a motorcycle from it, it probably wasn't junk in the first place
- takeo1775, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Tetsuo!!! Someone make Akira's electric bike.
- TheMachine1, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Do not notice a speed controller for the motor. That would help improve his project.
- cyborgmexican, on 05/23/2009, -1/+2Yea, but they are experienced engineers with a focus on the given challenge. This dude is a factory worker with no job who installed a car stereo once. The project isn't the point, its the fact that instead of going straight to the unemployment office and asking for a handout this dude got off his ass and did something.
- JackOpfor, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1its a bit more Mad Max than Akira, But still very cool.
- behavedave, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1It does have a transmission, the chain! I think you mean a gear box?
edit: Ignore me I've just read Wikipedia and it must be an Americanism as they don't differentiate between transmitting the force (the engine to the rear wheel) and gearing it when using the word transmission.
edit 2: They do differentiate as transmitting the power is called a drive system.
This only begs the question then why use the name transmission for anything other than the transmission of force. must be born from a misunderstanding like 'centriifical' motion. - DrCyclops, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Tony Parker was able to build this in a cave, with a box of scraps!
- absurdist, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1It would have been nice if he'd have given a few more details. Such as the motor used, controller, range, etc. As a gearhead, of course top speed is important, but not so much so if you have to push it back home.
- Ghostalker, on 05/23/2009, -2/+2Pity this guy doesn't work for GM, he could turn the whole domestic automotive industry around.
- Kaloli, on 05/23/2009, -0/+0When he becomes Spiderman.
- Mike17102, on 05/23/2009, -4/+4For every gas2.org story that crosses digg's homepage, I am going to burn a tire.
- yaroze, on 05/23/2009, -1/+1Now imagine if he would use a transmission, he may end up going much much faster and have his batteries last longer.
- byrdboy, on 05/23/2009, -1/+1i sEE wUT u dID tHERE.
- behavedave, on 05/23/2009, -0/+0I'd say as their doesn't appear to be a gear box on them they are limited by the revs the motor can handle. I think they dont fit one as they'd have to create a completely new box from scratch with unique ratios and just two speeds requiring much more resources than they have and making costs higher than the market they are aiming at.
- Merakon, on 05/23/2009, -0/+0When did Tony Stark change his last name?
- kjones555, on 05/23/2009, -3/+2Not only can he play some ball and married to one of the hottest women on tv, he can build an electric motorcycle from scratch...oh wait, wrong guy?
- bonofosho, on 05/23/2009, -1/+0How is that gay? I mean, unless you are imagining a mans private parts being encrusted with what would appear to be diamonds. Then truly one mans Junk is another mans treasure.
*Disclaimer: if you just imagined that, then yes, the comment was gay. - adjohnson916, on 05/23/2009, -3/+1"solar power penis" = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penis_Plant
That's photosynthesis, baby! - brainflakes, on 05/23/2009, -3/+1Ok, nice project, but taking an old motorcycle, removing the engine and fitting an old washing machine motor and car battery is hardly revolutionary. They've done more impressive things on Scrapheap Challenge / Junkyard Wars
